Last but not least: Strauss-Kahn and his commitment to animal welfare

PETA is known for its provocative advertising. The animal rights organization's latest campaign is also likely to make some viewers blush.

The subject shows the (now former) IMF President Dominique Strauss-Kahn. The politician, who is suspected of rape, pleads for the castration of pets: Too much sex can be a bad thing, even for dogs and cats, are the words put into his mouth. The message: "There are already countless homeless animals. Have your animal companion neutered".

The subject is very daring, especially in view of the fact that Strauss-Kahn is only under suspicion and has not yet been convicted. Whether Peta can gain the sympathy of the general public remains to be seen. In any case, it has once again brought itself and animal welfare into the conversation.

Federal Council does not want to define "public service" more precisely

The Federal Council believes that the law sufficiently defines the services the SRG is required to provide. It does not consider a more detailed definition of «public service» to be necessary, as it states in its response to a motion.

Filippo Leutenegger, a member of the Zurich FDP National Council, would like the motion to instruct the Federal Council to define the public services of the SRG financed by fees, taking into account the function of private providers. In connection with the planned introduction of device-independent radio and TV fees, it must be clear to fee payers which services are financed with fee money and which are not, Leutenegger justifies the motion.

The Federal Council is asking parliament to reject the motion. The services of the SRG are described in the Federal Law on Radio and Television, it states in its response published on Thursday. The performance mandate is specified in the concession. There, the number and type of radio and television programs as well as the scope of the other services are defined, which also includes the SRG's online presence. Qualitative requirements are also specified. The Federal Council writes that this sufficiently defines the public service and distinguishes it from commercial offerings. During the last revision of the law, the parliament intensively discussed the level of detail and came to the conclusion that a regulation down to the last detail would not be appropriate. The Federal Council states that the media can only fulfill their social and political function if they have sufficient freedom. The change in the system of compulsory fees does not change this.

The Federal Council justifies the future payment of radio and TV fees by those who do not own a receiver by stating that the programs can be consumed via computer. It also states that the services provided by the media system for the democratic formation of opinion are in everyone's interest - regardless of whether they consume programs. Moreover, the changeover to a device-independent levy is not aimed at increasing revenues. (SDA)

Migipedia: Migros draws positive interim balance

Just under a year ago, Migros launched its customer platform, Migipedia. Since then, the company has received tens of thousands of comments offering praise, criticism, suggestions, and requests. The loudest call during this time was for M-Budget Wave Chips.

The chips had disappeared from Migros shelves in 2009. According to the press release, this triggered more than 300 comments on Migipedia. And the comments have been heard. As of May 19, the chips will be back in all stores. Vanilla Coke, which was requested by 35,000 Facebook fans, has also recently been added to the range. In addition, two new jams, "Strawberry Mouth" and "Autumn Sin," will hit the Migros shelves at the beginning of September, having been developed with Migros customers from the idea to the decision. The Swiss retailer is thus consistently continuing the path it has taken with its social media presence on Migipedia, Facebook and Twitter, the statement continues.

It is also important for Migros to optimize existing products on an ongoing basis and to listen to customers' opinions regarding adjustments. For example, the adaptation of the M-Budget household paper was not perceived as positive by the Migros community and led to Migipedia led to corresponding feedback. M-Budget household paper will be back on the Migros shelves in the same quality as before in the course of June.

Futurecom reenacts TV commercial for Colgate

Futurecom is supporting Colgate White One's TV campaign with an online campaign that focuses on user-generated content.

Users are being asked to produce their own interpretation of the Colgate Max White One TV spot and submit it to an online vote, as the agency writes in a statement. For this purpose, it has designed a microsite on which users can re-enact the TV spot on their PC using their webcam - or upload their own video or slideshow. The users put in a lot of effort and produce contributions that are in no way inferior to the original, the statement continues. Creative, humorous and with their very own signature. The entertainment value of the contributions is so great that so far more than 110,000 users have visited the site in Germany. In Austria, the campaign is just getting underway.

BSW looks back on a successful anniversary year

Looking back on an exceptionally successful year, President Peter Felser opened the 76th General Assembly of BSW Leading Swiss Agencies at FIFA headquarters in Zurich.

Things are going well for the leading agencies in Switzerland. With average growth of 7 percent in 2010, they are on the upswing again and the trend is continuing this year. According to Felser, quality is also characterized by the fact that companies want to focus on secure values, especially in and after times of crisis. The BSW agencies offer these secure values.

Group membership with BSW
As some BSW members operate as a group on the market with various specialized companies - in contrast to agencies that offer all services with units under the same brand name - the General Assembly has made group memberships possible by amending the Articles of Association.

New structure and simplification of membership fees
The scale for membership fees was adjusted again for the first time in 20 years. With minimal gradations in the area of smaller agencies, it was no longer up to date and no longer complied with the admission regulations.

Revision of the industry principles for media agencies
The revised industry principles for media agencies have been adopted and come into force with immediate effect. Above all, they are intended to create greater clarity in the compensation of media agencies' increasingly complex services.

Michael Kamm new representative of French-speaking Switzerland on the BSW Board of Directors
Michael Kamm, CEO and owner of Agence Trio (Lausanne and Zurich), was elected as the new representative of the agencies in French-speaking Switzerland on the board. Kamm, 46, has been head of Switzerland's oldest advertising agency since 2003 and sole owner since 2005. He succeeds Hervé Devanthéry, Synthès, Lausanne, who represented the agencies of French-speaking Switzerland on the Board for nine years. Devanthéry was awarded the BSW's gold badge of honor for his services.

Peter Leutenegger succeeds Walter Merz
The change in the management of the BSW announced at the beginning of the year will take place on the date of the General Meeting: Peter Leutenegger will take over responsibility for the management with immediate effect, replacing Walter Merz, who had headed the BSW office since January 1, 1999. Walter Merz was awarded the golden badge of honor for his great services.

Facebook does not want a "vacation without Facebook

Facebook takes issue with Switzerland Tourism’s call for «Vacations Without Facebook.» Three days after the campaign of the same name was launched, the social network blocked its Facebook app early Monday morning.

"Facebook apparently doesn't want you to take a vacation without Facebook," reads the error message on the campaign page. Contrary to speculation, the social network's terms of use have not been violated, Daniela Bär, media spokeswoman for Switzerland Tourism, assures Pressetext. "Such an own goal would be a super gau for us". A spokesperson for Smly Social Media Productions, which was involved in the campaign, confirms that Facebook is still waiting for an explanation.

The incident has already generated enormous media coverage at home and abroad. "We didn't plan this, but we are pleased that the campaign has received so much attention as a result," Daniela Bär, media spokeswoman for Switzerland Tourism, told Pressetext.
