Google: Social Search launched in 19 additional languages

Google is expanding its social search. The search service now finds friends on Twitter and Facebook as well.

Google Search is to be expanded to 19 additional languages. The company announced this in its official blog. Social search is an application that links regular search results with publicly accessible data. This comes from the social media activities of friends, which includes people who are in a user's Google Talk lists and Google Contacts. It also includes people you follow on Buzz and Google Reader, as well as other networks linked to a Google account.

Social search was recently an issue when Facebook reportedly hired a PR firm to publish negative stories about social search in the press. As Mashable.com writes, Facebook is of the opinion that Google's practices are worrying in terms of privacy. Facebook is also unhappy that Google can use data from the social platform without Facebook's consent.

The social search should now be available for use in 19 languages next week. Further languages are planned.

Club Med: Back in German-speaking Switzerland with a new campaign

Club Med, the Geneva-based specialist for all-inclusive holidays, is back in German-speaking Switzerland after years of advertising abstinence. And not just with a new campaign, but also with a new positioning: Club Med will be offering tailor-made luxury all-inclusive vacations in future.

The campaign, designed by Saatchi & Saatchi Zurich, was presented today, Thursday, in Zurich. It includes print motifs, online banners, a Facebook presence, a microsite and surprising ambient campaigns such as clothes hangers, which are distributed in dry cleaners with the message "So that you too can return from your vacation in top form". Club Med is also using events to draw attention to its repositioning: today Jennifer Ann Gerber, Miss Switzerland 2001 and presenter of the "Golfers Only" program on SSF, played mini-golf with passers-by on Zurich's Hechtplatz. A similar event will also take place in Basel. Both events will be filmed and incorporated into the campaign. All subjects, banners and campaigns refer to the microsite The-new-club-med.chwhich explains what "the new Club Med" actually is.

All-inclusive at a high level

With the new campaign, Club Med wants to move away from the image of being a provider of club vacations for everyone, where every guest has to take part in all the activities on offer, and become the first address for premium vacations on five continents - still all-inclusive, but at four- and five-star level. Holidaymakers can also book private villas in Mauritius with a pool, butler and private golf and tennis courses at Club Med. They are exactly the opposite of what is commonly thought of as a "club vacation" - and fit perfectly into the travel provider's new strategy. "By 2012, we will have upgraded the majority of our 80 resorts to premium level and built more luxury resorts," emphasizes Pierre-André Gremaud, Marketing Director of Club Med. "Our core message is that in future, Club Med will offer everyone a luxury vacation tailored to their needs."

Tailor-made and playful

The campaign subjects visualize this message with images of dreamy sports, romantic and family vacations projected onto the clothing of the testimonials - because tailor-made vacations feel as good as a shirt tailored to your body. The microsite also plays with this idea, where you can click on who would like to book the vacation and what needs this person has: from a varied sports program with golf, tennis, sailing etc. to pure romance and a luxury SPA, everything is available. The travel provider even offers childcare for children from the age of four months. Once users have made their selection, they are offered various Club Med resorts that fulfill their wishes. And if you're already in vacation fever, you can even upload a photo of yourself, swap your face for that of the testimonial and take a look at your dream surroundings.

For the realization of the campaign, Club Med has found a partner in Saatchi & Saatchi Zurich that is very familiar with German-speaking Switzerland and can assess the needs of the target group well, says Gremaud.

Social Media: IAB Switzerland establishes task force

Effective immediately, proven social media experts are collaborating within the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB Switzerland). The new task force is led by Stefan Obwegeser, CEO of Search.ch.

"Everyone wants to participate, but very few know how," says Ueli Weber, president of IAB Switzerland. According to Weber, a lot of important data and recommendations are missing. For example, the advertising impact in the area of social media marketing has hardly been researched. Companies obviously see themselves in a bind, but without knowing the path and goal of the adventure. Although there are some top-class social media experts in Switzerland, each of them only has data and information on individual aspects. In the future, the knowledge and experience will be bundled in the IAB task force. Mike Schwede, Florian Wieser, Remo Prinz, Manuel P. Nappo, Markus Popp and Thomas Hutter will provide the relevant know-how. The project is headed by Stefan Obwegeser.

The findings will primarily be available to IAB members, but the entire online and marketing industry is also expected to benefit through expert contributions and events. The work of the new group will start in June, and the first results are not expected to be long in coming.
