SRG: Change of leadership in corporate communications

In accordance with his personal life plans, Max Gurtner decided some time ago to step down as head of SRG Corporate Communications at age 60. Now, Director General Roger de Weck is proposing to the SRG Board of Directors that Iso Rechsteiner, the former director of Schweizer Radio DRS, be appointed as his successor.

If the Board of Directors approves his appointment, Iso Rechsteiner will assume responsibility for the three key areas of corporate communications, public affairs and relations with SRG's owners in the course of summer 2011. SRG writes this in a press release on Presseportal.ch. Rechsteiner is currently Program Officer at SRF in Zurich. He will be supported by Daniel Steiner as media spokesperson and Deputy Head of Corporate Communications.

Affichage: Board of Directors re-elected despite countermotion

At the Annual General Meeting held on May 26, 2011, the shareholders of Affichage Holding approved all proposals submitted by the Board of Directors. Jean-François Decaux (Chairman), Paul-Henry Binz (Vice Chairman), and Gilles Samyn were reelected to the Board of Directors. Robert Schmidli was elected as a new member.

The Annual General Meeting of Affichage, which specializes in outdoor advertising, was dominated by the company's failed expansion into Greece. A group of shareholders wanted to change the Board of Directors due to the loss-making investment, but failed. Jean-François Decaux, Chairman of the Board of Directors, was confirmed in office for a further three years by the 200 or so shareholders present with 69.2 percent of the votes. His two colleagues Paul-Henry Binz and Gilles Samyn were re-elected with similar results. Robert Schmidli was elected as a new member. This was reported by Affichage in a press release on Friday.

A shareholder group led by investment advisors Max Müller and Antoine Spillman with 5.27% of the votes called for further consequences: they had submitted questions to the Board of Directors about the failed expansion. Their motion for a special audit was rejected with 64.6 percent of the votes. The proposal of some shareholders for an Extraordinary General Meeting also failed. The Annual General Meeting rejected both motions, according to the Affichage press release.

However, the shareholder group intends to take the project to court. This would require 10 percent of the votes. It has filed a lawsuit in Geneva against former Group CEO Christian Kauter and other individuals. Affichage itself has taken legal action against its former business partners in Greece and an ex-manager. The company is no longer active in Greece.

Media Trend Journal: More viewers thanks to repeats

«Gesundheit Sprechstunde,» «CashTV,» or «NZZ Format»—thanks to new time slots, the programs produced by the publishing house-owned television network PresseTV (PTV) have been achieving higher ratings again for the past two years. The reruns, in particular, are popular.

At the beginning of 2009, Presse TV saw a trend reversal: After years of decline, the ratings of individual programs rose sharply again. For "Gesundheit Sprechstunde" (GES), for example, the audience that watched the entire program (rating) grew from 169,000 (2008) to 225,000 people (2009) within a year, an increase of 33 percent. Particularly positive: the turnaround was sustainable. In 2010, the GES audience increased again by 8.3 percent to 244,000 people. The market share of first broadcasts even tripled from 6% to a good 18%.

This was not an isolated case: "CashTV" recorded a total of 176,000 viewers per program in 2010, 14.3 percent more than in 2008. Even the late-night program "Bekanntmachung" has seen a steady increase in viewers, albeit at a lower level: With 15,800 viewers, it is now 31 percent higher than in 2008. The curve is not quite as straightforward for "NZZ Format": the program reached a full 43 percent more viewers in 2009, then fell back slightly in 2010, but is still 24,000 viewers or 32 percent higher than in 2008.

Publigroupe: Sale of stake in Huashang Interactive Media in China

Publigroupe is selling its 17 percent stake in Huashang Interactive Media, the Internet division of China’s Huashang Media Group, to Xi’an Huashang Ying Da Startup Investment Co. The buyer is a subsidiary of Huashang Media Group.

Huashang Interactive Media is the Internet division of the Chinese Huashang Media Group, a publisher of regional newspapers in the cities of Xian, Chongqing, Shenyang and Changchun. The sale is the result of Publigroupe's focus on the international media sales business in the Chinese market, according to a Publigroupe press release. The investment dates back to 2008.

The sale of the shares in Huashang InteractiveMedia follows directly on from the sale of Hong Kong-based Emphasis Video Entertainment EVE, which is active in the video film business. With these measures, Publigroupe is proving that it is keeping its promises to divest non-core activities and thus consistently implementing its current business strategy, which is aimed at strengthening the current, most profitable business segments of Media Sales, Search & Find and Digital & Marketing Services, the press release continues.

Today, Publigroupe is represented in the Chinese market by its subsidiary Publicitas. Publicitas offers services for advertisers, agencies and publishers in China with offices in Beijing and Shanghai: the International Sales division markets international media in China and the Import Sales division is responsible for the promotion of Chinese media abroad, including through the other Publicitas companies present in 19 other markets.

Journalist Christian Mensch is joining the editorial staff of *Der Sonntag* and the *Basellandschaftliche Zeitung* (BZ). Effective September 1, 2011, he will head the new *Sonntag* regional division for Basel-Stadt and Baselland.

Christian Mensch is currently head of the federal house editorial department of the Basler Zeitung, before which he headed the Baz research team for eight years. Mensch previously worked for Tages-Anzeiger, Weltwoche and Facts. He has distinguished himself in particular as a media journalist, according to a statement from AZ Medien. Regional Alliance

To the point: Game without borders

The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) is holding a national dialogue week on the topic of alcohol from May 21 to 29, 2011. The Federal Alcohol Administration (EAV), which fulfills a mandate related to both fiscal and health policy, is participating with three days of dialogue.

Three core topics of the ongoing total revision of the Alcohol Law were debated: Protection of minors, advertising regulations and trade regulations. I was allowed to moderate a roundtable discussion on the topic of advertising regulations. I went to Bern with a certain amount of skepticism because, firstly, any paternalism on the part of the state is deeply repugnant to me and, secondly, I am firmly convinced that advertising should also be permitted for a legal product.

As an introduction to the topic "Alcohol & Advertising - Is it allowed to show everything?", Werner Altwegg and Nicolas Rion from the SAB presented a most interesting cross-section of advertising for spirits before 1982 (without creative restrictions) and after 1982 with the well-known restrictions, according to which one is actually only allowed to show the product and its ingredients. Even taking into account that the 30 years naturally had an impact on the advertising style: The restrictions have clearly improved the creativity of spirits advertising.

The experts participating in the roundtable were: Michel Graf, Director of Sucht Info Schweiz; Andreas Affentranger, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Distillerie Diwisa; Marc Schuhmacher, Account Planning Director of Contexta; and Sabine Schey, Managing Director of the LINK qualitative AG research institute. Contradictory votes were therefore to be expected. It quickly became clear that the question of how far spirits advertising can go is actually a marginal issue. Another point is much more important. Our state wants to regulate or restrict alcoholic beverage advertising and acts as if there were no foreign media, let alone an Internet and social media. So what good is it if something is regulated in our small country and everything comes in from outside that is forbidden. Nothing at all!

To this day, there is a difference in the regulation of wine or beer advertising and spirits advertising. Complete nonsense, because what someone gets high on doesn't matter. Only the quantity matters. Let no one come to me with the cultural significance of wine or beer, it's much simpler: the beer and wine producers simply have the better lobby in Bern. The conversation was exciting and worthwhile. Despite skepticism.

Sixt prices Obama own SUVs

A speed bump proved to be an obstacle for President Obama’s car during his visit to the Irish Embassy in Dublin on Tuesday. The footage inspired the creative team at Serviceplan Sales Munich to produce a film for the car rental company Sixt.

The American president's car, also known as "The Beast", allegedly costs 400,000 dollars. Equipped with all the bells and whistles imaginable, it offers the most powerful man in the world the greatest possible safety on journeys. It's a shame when a speed bump becomes an insurmountable obstacle. Sixt has taken this as an opportunity to offer its services to the President, under the motto "Sixt also rents out off-road vehicles for which such thresholds would be no problem".

Radio 24 soon to go digital throughout German-speaking Switzerland

Starting August 1, the Zurich-based station Radio 24 will be available throughout German-speaking Switzerland via digital radio. A test phase will take place in July.

Then, just in time for the national holiday, the digital distribution of the FM program will start. Listeners traveling from Zurich to Bern or from Basel to Lucerne, for example, will be able to listen to Radio 24 without interruption, the station announced on Wednesday. Radio 24 applied for the DAB+ broadcasting slot at the end of 2010, program manager Karin Müller told the news agency SDA.

The Zurich radio station was now in waiting position one and then took over the broadcasting slot of the Basel radio project Open Broadcast. For financial reasons, the operators of the latter had decided not to broadcast via DAB. The DAB+ broadcasting slots are allocated by network provider Swiss Media Cast SMC.

Since October 2010, digital broadcasting has been interesting for radio stations because they can now broadcast their existing FM first programs, Müller said. Previously, they would have had to develop their own programming. Digital radio can also be heard in an underground car park, for example. However, it needs a so-called DAB+ digital radio to receive it. Radio 24 can still also be received via FM, the Internet or on mobile devices.

Renzen Communications: New appearance for Lyreco Switzerland

Under the slogan «Your Workplace Is Our Home,» Lyreco is launching a new campaign. The central element is a corporate brochure designed by the agency Renzen Communications.

The brochure aims to highlight that Lyreco has flat hierarchies and that employees play an important role. Impressions from Lyreco's everyday life illustrate the friendly and helpful attitude of Lyreco employees. Almost leitmotif-like, assortment items such as paper clips, post-its and colored pencils are playfully interspersed on every page. Kept in a casual style, the brochure is thus intended to get to the heart of the company's core values of "perfection", "professionalism", "passion" and "respect".

The brochure is accompanied by posters, roll-ups, banners and giveaways that highlight the USPs of Lyreco and its partner company Nespresso.

Responsible at Lyreco: Manuel Schettler (Marketing Director), Roland Saner (Marketing Communication Manager). Responsible at Renzen Communications Aarau: Hanno Lietz (CD), Achim Kaufmann (AD), Florence Kuhlemeier (text), Frédéric Renzen (consulting).
