20 Minuten Mobile will not be continued

The media association 20 Minuten and Sunrise have decided to discontinue the jointly launched mobile service 20 Minuten Mobile. The reason for the decision is the business development, which is below expectations.

Mediafocus: High advertising pressure in May

May brought a welcome surge in advertising spending. Gross advertising spending rose to over 405 million francs during the month of May, marking a 6.3 percent increase over the same period a year earlier.

This is only the second time in the past ten years that May has broken the 400 million barrier. In addition to traditional product and image advertising, mobile services, online platforms, websites and web offers are increasingly being advertised today. It is not enough to simply launch an "app" or activate a new website; the offers must be widely publicized.

This is why Mediafocus is focusing on the promotion of apps and URLs this month. The previous peak in terms of app advertising was reached in December 2010. Advertisers spent over CHF 3.1 million to ensure that their app was downloaded and tried out - at least once.

The balance sheet for the current year is as follows: After a decline in January to CHF 2.4 million and an average value of around CHF 1.6 million in February, March and April, gross advertising revenue rose to CHF 2.5 million in May 2011. The top apps of the month were the "20 Minuten Online App" in first place, the "Soundshack App" in second place, the "Peter Wick Wetter App" in third place, the "Blick App" in fourth place and the "Blick Fussball App" in fifth place

Promotion of Internet addresses and websites
In 2010, the monthly volume for advertising Internet addresses and websites ranged from CHF 10 to 16 million. In the first five months of the current year, the range was smaller and amounted to only CHF 10 to 12 million. In May 2011, the gross advertising volume was in the mid-range at around CHF 11 million.

The top URLs were Myswitzerland.com in first place, Renovero.ch in second place, Transplantinfo.ch in third place, Be2.ch in fourth place and Problememiterektion.ch in fifth place. Around 46% of the websites were advertised in the print media, 31% on TV and 14% on the Internet.

Radio Rabe awarded the Bernese Culture Prize

The alternative radio station Radio Rabe has been awarded the 2011 Culture Prize of the Canton of Bern. According to the citation, Rabe has established itself over the past 15 years as a cultural radio station committed to diversity, pluralism, multilingualism, and social engagement.

Without Rabe, the canton of Bern would be missing an important alternative voice in cultural life. This was the decision of the committee responsible, according to a press release issued on Friday. The Culture Prize is endowed with 30,000 Swiss francs and will be presented in Bern on September 22.

Theater maker Germain Meyer will then be able to accept the 10,000 Swiss franc prize for cultural mediation. He has been involved in numerous projects, including the theater matura at Pruntrut High School. He is also involved in setting up a
theater network at schools.

SRG: No national election studio in Bern - Presidents' Meeting in Zurich

For the National Council and Council of States elections on October 23, the SRG plans to set up three regional election centers in Zurich, Geneva, and Lugano. As was the case on election days in 2003 and 2007, Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) will not broadcast from Bern.

On election day, the discussion of the presidential panel, which will be broadcast live on television and radio, will also take place in Leutschenbach. SRF spokesperson Marco Meroni told the news agency SDA on Friday. The leaders of the Federal Council parties as well as the Greens, glp, EVP, EDU and CSP have been invited to Zurich.

SRF will be broadcasting live from Leutschenbach from 12 noon to midnight on election day. The fact that the election studio is being set up in Zurich and not in the political center of Bern is causing controversy today, just as it did before previous federal elections. SVP General Secretary Martin Baltisser takes a relaxed view of the matter. They are adjusting to the framework that is coming. You have to look at it soberly and pragmatically. The main thing is that fee payers are burdened as little as possible. CVP President Christophe Darbellay has a different opinion. He and the party presidents of French-speaking Switzerland would rather have the elephant round in Bern, said the Valaisan. This had proved its worth in the votes. It is practical for politicians and media people and is also symbolically important, as Bern is the capital. Bern is the capital and not Leutschenbach, added SP General Secretary Thomas Christen. A broadcast on such an important date as the federal elections must come from Bern, especially in multilingual Switzerland. The SP wanted to voice its criticism of the SRG.

Since SRF/SRG will be holding the pre-election event "Treffpunkt Bundesplatz" on the Bundesplatz in Bern from September 19 to 30, it makes no economic sense to leave the infrastructure in place until October 23, says SRF spokesperson Marco Meroni. A large part of the infrastructure would have to be brought to Bern and set up for an election broadcast from the Bundesplatz. This would cost a lot. The special set-up of another location would require additional funds. SRF will report on the elections in the canton of Bern from Bern City Hall on October 23.

The election center of the French-speaking Swiss radio and television station RTS is located in Geneva and that of the Italian-speaking radio and television station RSI in Lugano. RTS and RSI will also have space for live locations in Zurich.

Is Unia buying Tele Züri and Radio 24?

Apparently, the Unia union has submitted a bid for the four TV and radio stations that Tamedia is selling. Tamedia plans to divest itself of its four stations: Tele Züri, Radio 24 Zürich, Tele Bärn, and Capital FM Bern.

To this end, the publishing house is conducting an auction process. According to the latest speculation, Unia will also be involved. In addition to media companies such as Ringier and the TV station 3+, other companies from outside the industry are also said to have bid for the Tamedia stations. This was reported by Handelszeitung.ch on Friday. The casino group Escor, which is undergoing total restructuring, and rumors of circles close to the SVP are among those outside the industry. According to a Handelszeitung source, the trade union Unia, which is one of the largest employee organizations in the country with 200,000 members and over 100 sectors represented, is said to have already carried out extensive preparatory work.

Those responsible are now to put together a team of experts under the name "360 Grad", with whom they will deepen the content of their offer if Unia remains in the running. The union wants to prevent a "Berlusconization" of the Swiss media landscape and give publicity to topics that are important to the left and the trade unions, according to the idea.

The sale is now expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to a spokeswoman for the publishing house in the Handelszeitung. However, the company would not comment on individual offers.

Marketing One Service: Family barometer created for parents' magazine Fritz+Fränzi

In March of this year, the agency Marketing One Service asked 1,000 people in German-speaking Switzerland how happy they are with their family. The survey was commissioned by the parents' magazine Fritz+Fränzi.

Parents with children up to the age of 18 were included. The result is a representative picture of how families feel today, project manager Philipp Hammer told the media in Zurich on Friday, according to SDA. The vast majority of parents in German-speaking Switzerland are happy or even very happy with their family. However, the first family barometer published by the parents' magazine Fritz+Fränzi also shows that there is sometimes a wide gap between aspirations and reality. This is what the parents' magazine writes in a press release on Friday.

Fritz+Fränzi conducted the survey on parents' feelings to mark its 10th anniversary. The magazine is published by the Stiftung Elternsein foundation. As Ellen Ringier, President of the foundation, explained, the foundation has set itself the task of strengthening parents in their competence, but also of sensitizing the public to family-specific issues. Families today are increasingly confronted with difficult problems.

Kooaba connects print ads with Apple's iAd

Kooaba has, for the first time, linked print ads directly to Apple's iAd using image recognition (Kooaba Paperboy). Kooaba's Smart Ads make print advertising interactive through image recognition.

The user takes a picture of an advertisement using the Paperboy mobile app. The advertisement is recognized by the image recognition and receives a digital response directly on the cell phone.

But this is just the beginning. The response that the user receives is a key element in the success of a print campaign, according to Kooaba in a blog post on Thursday. Ideally, the digital response to the cell phone should be interactive and engaging, easy to design and a pleasure to use.

Kooabe has therefore now combined print advertising with Apple's iAd. The iAd thus becomes the answer for interactive print advertising. After photographing the image of a print advertisement with a cell phone, an iAd should appear with this function. A video designed by Kooaba shows how this works.

Südostschweiz app with kiosk

Südostschweiz Medien has launched its app for tablet devices. In addition to the iPad, Android devices are also supported. A new feature is the local newsstand.

Südostschweiz Medien is also working on an app for smartphones.
Südostschweiz Medien publishes various daily and weekly newspapers, several magazines and operates the two radio stations Radio Grischa and Engiadina, Tele Südostschweiz and the regional internet portal Suedostschweiz.ch.

The "Südostschweiz Medien" kiosk app was launched to make these media - with the exception of radio and television stations - accessible on iPads and Android tablets. This allows all daily and weekly newspapers to be read conveniently as e-papers. In a first step, the e-papers will be offered as PDFs. At a later stage, they will be enriched with additional multimedia content and other useful features, according to a Südostschweiz Medien press release.

Subscribers can read "their" subscribed newspaper title free of charge. Other titles are also free or can be conveniently paid for via a central prepaid credit. Purchases can also be made via iTunes or, in the case of the Android app (coming soon), via Paypal. Registered users can access all purchased e-papers centrally, i.e. they can be accessed on different devices via their own central user account after purchase.

The next step will be the integration of Radio Grischa and Tele Südostschweiz. In addition to the live streams, the podcasts will also be accessible. Further features and apps for other platforms (Windows, Blackberry) are in the pipeline. Apps for smartphones are also in the works.

The apps were designed by the internet agency Südostschweiz Newmedia and developed together with partners.

Bellut received 70 yes votes from the 73 television councillors present at the vote in Berlin. One voted against Bellut, two abstained. 47 votes would have been necessary. Bellut was the only candidate. After ten years, Markus Schächter was not seeking a new term of office as director. Bellut's successor as program director will not be decided until later.

On July 6, 2011, Script, the Swiss Association of Copywriters, is hosting a barbecue with a unique twist: the plan is to burn bad copy.

The association is therefore inviting all those interested in copywriting to a special kind of barbecue as part of the "Campaign for better texts". Not only will there be barbecues on the fire, but also bad texts.

The event is open to copywriters, authors, editors, proofreaders, bloggers and journalists and anyone who brings a bad text with them. The event starts on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 6:30 pm at the Sihlquai bus parking lot in Zurich.
