Dachser magazine wins gold at the Fox Award

Dachser Magazine won the gold award in the "Customer Magazine—Special Format" category at the 2011 Fox Awards. This was the first time the Fox Award was presented.

33 of the 91 media entries submitted were particularly impressive in demonstrating their effectiveness and will receive an award. According to the award description on Cpwissen.de, the award focuses on corporate media that actually make an impact. Those who can convincingly demonstrate the effectiveness of their media have what it takes to win.

Anyone who produces corporate web TV and/or vodcast content on behalf of a company and can provide evidence of their work is eligible to submit an entry. However, Pia Dahlem, managing director of Penzberg-based Dapamedien Verlag and editor-in-chief of the industry service CPWISSEN, assures us that they do not intend to set the bar too high. After all, it is quite clear that clients are sometimes very reluctant to make concrete figures public. Therefore, no one should feel discouraged from participating simply because they do not have specific figures.

Ultimately, the jury also evaluates entries based on clear efficiency criteria such as media development, reach, ability to foster dialogue, sales and revenue growth, performance metrics, distribution quality, and brand alignment. Entries may be submitted by all media managers in companies, organizations, and associations, as well as their service providers.

In total, there are 16 categories open to entrants: In addition to corporate web TV and vodcasts, the categories include customer and employee magazines, newsletters, annual reports and magalogs, e-magazines and online magazines, as well as mobile media and corporate pages on Facebook.

Online radio: IPO with a billion-euro valuation

The IPO of a web radio station has generated strong demand. Investors are racing to buy shares in the online radio station Pandora Media.

The US company recently recorded a quarterly turnover of 50 million. Pandora Media has now been valued at a total of around 2.5 billion dollars as part of its capital market placement. According to SDA, this is the result of the issue price announced on Tuesday.

The online radio station Pandora Media is offering investors 14.7 million shares and selling them at 16 dollars each. The company, which was founded in 2000, is now raising 235 million dollars through the IPO. All of the proceeds will go to the existing shareholders. According to the New York Stock Exchange, the trading debut is still planned for June 15.

Pandora Media's music program can be put together by its listeners according to their own taste. The 90 million registered users can listen to the music via computer, smartphone or in the car. There are also partnerships with Ford, General Motors and Mercedes-Benz.

The radio station derives its income from advertising. It has to pay considerable royalties for the music tracks. It is not yet a foregone conclusion for industry experts that money can be made with this business idea.

The 2011 Eastern Switzerland Media Award was presented on Tuesday evening to two female journalists and three male journalists. Matthias Hüppi was honored for his many years of work as an «ambassador for Eastern Switzerland» on Swiss television.

After 30 years at Swiss Television and 25 years on *Sportpanorama*, his perseverance in his profession and his expertise as a television sports journalist are record-breaking and, for that reason alone, worthy of an award. Matthias Hüppi exudes a special quality: «His palpable dedication.» With these words, Kurt Felix paid tribute to Matthias Hüppi’s work.

The statement goes on to say that Hanimann’s writing style is dense, gripping, breathless, and possesses a dynamism that magically draws the reader into the action.

The Eastern Switzerland Media Award in the Category: Daily Verse went to Ida Sandl this year. The journalist was honored for her column «Maria and the Pope,» which appeared in the Thurgauer Zeitung in May 2010. Ida Sandl knows what the people in the Thurgauer Zeitung’s coverage area

Realignment of Master Film at the Zurich University of the Arts - New Director as of Fall 2012

A series of measures has been adopted to further strengthen film education at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). The goals are to focus on the program’s content, expand internationalization, streamline collaborations, secure funding, and obtain a definitive operating license, which is still pending.

Part of these measures is the appointment of an internationally recognized artist and filmmaker as the new director of the Master of Film program. The university management has appointed the Swiss director Markus Imboden as the new head of the Master's program in Film as of fall 2012. Markus Imboden has been a lecturer in the ZHdK's Film department since 2008. As the future director, he stands for the increased focus of Zurich's film education on narrative film - fiction and documentary -, film acting and acting direction. Imboden, who has made more than 30 feature films for German and Swiss television and for the cinema, is a Grimme Award winner and a member of the German and Swiss Film Academies; his films - including "Ausgerechnet Zoé," "Katzendiebe," "Hunger auf Leben," and "Mörder auf Amrum" - have won numerous awards.

Lucie Bader and Marille Hahne, who have built up and managed the Master's program in Film over the past few years, will continue their management activities until the end of the semester in summer 2012. They have been committed both to the Switzerland-wide networking of film education in the Cinema Schweiz network and to ensuring that the films made at the ZHdK were shown at national and international festivals. The films thus reached a broad audience and regularly won awards. They were also successful in raising third-party funds to finance the diploma productions. Lucie Bader and Marille Hahne will continue to be active in teaching and will supervise further projects as part of the reorientation of film education.

Last but not least: Facebook gets former government spokesman

Facebook wants to hire a presidential spokesperson? Of course. And the social network is getting one—but not just anyone, the presidential spokesperson for Bill «I didn’t inhale» Clinton.

On Wednesday, the world's largest online network announced as its new hire Joe Lockhart, the former press secretary to President Bill Clinton. Former Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs reportedly bailed out earlier after Facebook's offer to him leaked to the media. Lockhart could handle today's round-the-clock news cycle due to his experience in the White House, Facebook communications chief Elliot Schrage said, according to SDA. He will be responsible for corporate, political and international communications. He will start on July 15 and move from Washington to California as soon as his family commitments allow, the statement added.

Joe Lockhart was Clinton's spokesman during his second term, from 1998 to 2000, a period that included the impeachment proceedings against Clinton following the scandal involving intern Monica Lewinsky. A year later, in 2001, Lockhart founded his own PR firm.

Facebook, which now has around 600 million members, is repeatedly at the center of data protection discussions. The network could therefore do with the services of an experienced political communicator.
