The Tagesanzeiger on iPad is not an ePaper, but offers a solution tailored to the diverse possibilities of the iPad, writes Tamedia in a press release. The first articles are available as soon as the app is launched, while all other content is loaded in the background. Once an issue has been fully loaded onto the iPad, it can then be accessed without an Internet connection.
The application can be personalized; by subscribing to keywords, for example, readers can compile topic dossiers according to their own interests. All articles can be sent directly from the app by e-mail and recommended on Facebook and Twitter. If you wish, you can be notified immediately of important events. Links draw attention to further articles on Tagesanzeiger.ch, Wikipedia and Google News. Individual terms can also be looked up directly on Google and Wikipedia without leaving the app. Andreas Dietrich is responsible for the journalistic management of the multimedia edition. He is supported by a team of five with a total of 340 full-time equivalents.
Previous iPad app to be continued
The new app is now available to download free of charge from the iTunes store. It can be read for free until the end of August, and from September it will be available with a daily, weekly, monthly or annual subscription. The free iPad app, which the Tagi launched at the beginning of June last year, will also continue to be available, as Tagi editor-in-chief Markus Eisenhut told the news agency SDA. In terms of content, it will mainly offer daily articles from the online editorial team. However, the free offer will be limited. While the online editorial team is currently allowed to take around 15 articles from the newspaper editorial team, it will now be "less than half", according to Eisenhut.
Last October, Tamedia had already launched a fee-based iPad version of the weekend supplement Das Magazin was launched. Eisenhut is now promising that the magazine app will be integrated into the new app in a second step.
