Advico Young & Rubicam: Camel sends five friends to Shanghai

With its «Camel Access11» promotion, Camel is offering five friends from different European countries the chance to win a trip to Shanghai—featuring cultural and nightlife activities, as well as accommodations at the «Camel Hotel,» where all the winners will meet.

The promotion is based on a microsite developed by Advico, on which five friends can register as a team and play together for the main prize. To do this, they have to collect lucky codes, which can be found in packets of cigarettes or in Fortune Cookies distributed at the POS. After entering the first five codes, each participant also receives a T-shirt with their name translated into Chinese. "Camel Access11" will be promoted with a comprehensive POS package, print ads, e-newsletters, direct mailings and a movie spot at the Orange Cinema Open Air. A Camel Swing Pack specially designed for the promotion is now available in stores.

Wiretapping scandal: Investigations extend to newspapers of other publishers

The investigation into the wiretapping scandal surrounding the British tabloid News of the World is now spreading to Murdoch media.

The police had already requested a report some time ago on investigations into the use of private investigators by British newspapers from 2006, the office of the British Data Protection Commissioner explained on Thursday. According to the report, the Daily Mail topped the list with 952 requests to private investigators, while the News of the World was in fifth place with 228 requests. The corresponding investigation was reported to the police
handed over three months ago.

Liberal Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, meanwhile, called for the scandal surrounding the now-defunct News of the World to be used to shed light on the "shady relationships" between politics and the media. "This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to properly expose the murky practices and shady relationships that have taken root at the heart of the British system between the press, politics and the police," Clegg said in London on Thursday.

Clegg defends Cameron

At the same time, Clegg defended his coalition partner and head of government David Cameron, saying he had "categorically" assured him that there had been no "inappropriate discussions" about the takeover bid by Murdoch for pay-TV broadcaster BSkyB.

Cameron made a statement in the House of Commons on Wednesday regarding the accusations that he had not maintained the necessary distance from Murdoch. In particular, he is accused of having employed the former editor-in-chief of the News of the World, Andy Coulson, as press spokesman, even though he was suspected of having commissioned the wiretapping. On Tuesday, Murdoch and his son James had to answer questions before a British parliamentary committee. The 80-year-old Rupert Murdoch denied any personal responsibility.

Australia tightens laws

Following the wiretapping scandal in the UK, Australia, the home country of Rupert Murdoch, is tightening its legislation to protect privacy. The scandal surrounding Murdoch's News of the World newspaper makes action necessary. So far, there is no general law in Australia that protects privacy, explained Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor on Thursday. This means that no one is legally protected if they want to take legal action against a breach of their privacy. In future, it should be possible to hold the media accountable in court in such cases. The government believes in both the principle of freedom of expression and the right to privacy. The technical achievements of the modern world made new communication channels possible, but also posed new challenges for the protection of privacy. The left-wing government, of which O'Connor is a member, is currently at loggerheads with some of the Murdoch Group's publications. (SDA)

Schalter&Walter design new IBM employee magazine

IBM Switzerland recently launched «The IBMer,» a new employee magazine created by employees for employees. The agency Schalter&Walter in St. Gallen, which is part of the Alea Iacta Group, was responsible for the project.

The new IBM Switzerland employee magazine proves that old channels do not replace new ones, despite electronic media and social media, according to a statement. "The IBMer" combines the advantages of print and social media in a new form: as a print product on the one hand and as a user-generated platform for internal communication on the other. All articles, ranging from customer projects to volunteering and career topics, would be written by the employees themselves in their preferred national language or in English and illustrated with photos.

In the future, the magazine will be published twice a year in tabloid format. In addition, an e-paper is available to employees on the intranet.

Last but not least: Hungary raffles new teeth

Hungary wants more visitors to come to the country - and has come up with a PR campaign of a somewhat different kind.

Under the motto "Hungary makes your teeth shine", the Hungarian tourist board is giving away "Germany's most beautiful smile". Or a trip to Budapest for dental or cosmetic treatment. On the Facebook page The competition is open until August 31, 2011 for participants to submit the most "expressive and original" applications for new teeth. The lucky winner will be selected by a jury of experts, with a top ten chosen in advance by the Facebook community serving as the basis for the decision. During their stay in Budapest, the winner will - hooray - be accompanied by a professional TV team. They will also be "allowed" to blog about their experiences and impressions on the Facebook page. A nice campaign. Especially as it can be assumed that the tourist office has chosen a doctor with the same level of training to carry out the dental beautification - despite the dumping prices ... Anyway: The Werbewoche online editorial team wishes you a wonderful and relaxing vacation season!

SF plans newsroom

Starting in 2014, the editorial teams of «Schweiz aktuell,» «Tagesschau,» and «10 vor 10» will be consolidated into a single newsroom. SF Editor-in-Chief Diego Yanez confirmed this to the television magazine TV-Star.

"With a newsroom, we want to deploy our forces even more effectively," says Diego Yanez. However, detailed statements are not possible at the moment - the concept will not be developed until 2012. Will the three newsrooms be completely dissolved? Yanez: "We can't assume that 'Schweiz aktuell', 'Tagesschau' and '10 vor 10' will be merged into a single large editorial department. That would make little sense." But the reverse is also true: If the newsroom comes, the clear separation of the three newsrooms will be over. That's why, according to the TV star, SF employees at Leutschenbach are worried that there will be job cuts. SF Editor-in-Chief Diego Yanez contradicts: "The newsroom is not associated with any savings package."

Wirz: New subjects and TV spot realized for Die Mobiliar

Wirz Werbung created two new claims sketch ads and a TV spot with two reminders for Die Mobiliar.

In the two new ads, you see Nordic walkers having to flee from a bull and a motorcycle rider riding behind a convertible driver and getting his toupee in his face. In the new TV spot, a family father turns to Mobiliar because his children have buried him on the beach and forgotten him. So he can't defend himself when a beach vendor shamelessly steals from him. In the two reminders, the poor guy is still stuck in the sand and first gets a carrot dirt and is then also photographed by two girls who are out at night on the beach.

The ads have been in newspapers and magazines since June. The TV spot went on air last week - just in time for the summer vacations.

Radio consumption in German-speaking Switzerland therefore fell by 0.1 percent or 4.1 minutes compared to the second half of 2010. According to SDA, this is the result of figures published by Publica Data AG on Wednesday. Cameron regrets hiring his former adviser Coulson

British Prime Minister David Cameron has regretted hiring his controversial former adviser Andy Coulson in retrospect. Cameron said this during the special debate in the British parliament.

If he had known what he knows today, he would not have appointed the former editor-in-chief of the scandalous News of the World as his government's head of communications, Cameron said. "It was my decision and I take responsibility for it," said Cameron. He regretted it and was sorry that he had caused so much turmoil, said the British head of government. However, it must first be established whether Coulson is actually guilty.

Cameron had come under fire because Coulson was alleged to have known about the tabloid's bugging and bribery methods during his time there. Coulson resigned as the government's head of communications in January.

The scandal surrounding bribes to the police and thousands of tapped phones at media mogul Rupert Murdoch's now defunct newspaper had severely damaged "public confidence in the police and the press", said Cameron. That is why the planned judicial committee of inquiry should not only uncover the practices at newspapers, but also at television stations and social media.

The first report is due to be published in twelve months. The committee, which is chaired by a judge, will also include former journalists from major media companies. Cameron also wants to take more decisive action against corruption in the police force. The bugging scandal raises questions about the morals and values of the police. He will look for ways to put together a new leadership team for the British police force, the Prime Minister added. (SDA)
