Survey shows: Retailers give innovations too little time

A survey conducted by Promarca, the Swiss Association of Branded Goods, among the 100 CEOs of its member companies shows that the Swiss retail sector does not give new, innovative branded products enough time to establish themselves in the Swiss market.

60% of companies estimate 1 to 3 years for this, but only one in four is granted this period by retailers. The majority (67%) of innovations have to assert themselves within the first 12 months - otherwise they risk being discontinued. This is a value-destroying practice for manufacturers, retailers and consumers, writes the Swiss Branded Goods Association in a press release.

Research & development, production, marketing and hundreds of thousands of francs in listing fees to retailers - a brand manufacturer in Switzerland invests a lot of money and time until a new product is on the shelves of retailers, the report continues. An enormous economic risk, especially as the biggest hurdle of all is still to come: 56% of the managing directors surveyed stated that they were given 7 to 12 months by their retail partners to be successful with their highly innovative new products, 11% even only 1 to 6 months. These would actually need 1 to 2 years (33% of respondents) or 2 to 3 years (27%) to be successful.

"Filippo's Politarena": regional broadcasters show restraint

After its initial broadcast on Wednesday evenings, «Filippo’s Politarena» is to be made available to local TV stations—for a nominal fee of 100 to 200 francs. However, interest has been limited.

The low price alone does not make the program attractive, as research by the newspaper Der Sonntag shows. Tele Züri, for example, will not broadcast the "Arena" copy, according to program director Markus Gilli. He refers to his own formats such as "Sonntalk" or "Talktäglich". In addition, special programs with candidates for the federal parliament are planned from September.

TVO is being cautious. Program director Mario Aldrovandi told the Sonntagspublikation that it remains to be seen whether the show will be taken over. However, Norbert Neininger, Delegate of the Board of Directors of Schaffhausen Television, has made a commitment. If you can have a program that is sure to be watched, that is good for the television station, he says. Leutenegger has promised to include members of the Schaffhausen cantonal and national councils.

Recording costs 220,000 to 250,000 francs

According to Sonntag, Leutenegger is waiving a fee and is not involved in the production with his own funds. Sat.1 Switzerland, meanwhile, assumes that the only six-minute advertising block in the one-hour program will be "well booked". Goldbach Media is responsible for this. As Der Sonntag also found out, the eight recordings are expected to cost between CHF 220,000 and 250,000. The biggest costs will be for the décor and graphics as well as the organization of the audience.

Coop and Emmi also filmed "Swissness" commercials abroad

In addition to Migros, Emmi and Coop also traveled abroad to film Swissness commercials.

A week ago, it was reported that Migros had filmed the commercial for its current campaign for Heidi milk products—featuring the slogan «Heidi, alles Guati us da Schwizer Bärga»—in New Zealand. Now the newspaper *Der Sonntag* has revealed: Emmi and Coop also went abroad to capture the Swiss mountain idyll—both to South Africa. According to *Der Sonntag*, the season was the deciding factor in the choice of filming location in both cases. However, the CO2 emissions from the trip were offset, according to Coop spokesperson Denise Stadler.
