P-Forum on the topic of "Multichannel publishing"

On Thursday, the 17th P-Forum, focusing on «Multichannel Publishing,» took place at the Kino Arena Filmcity in Zurich. This year’s Publicitas industry event centered entirely on media transformation and the impact of online technology on the media and advertising industries.

Beat Roeschlin, CEO of Publicitas, opened the industry event and welcomed the more than 300 participants from the media and advertising industry with the words: "Technology is increasingly setting the pace in the media industry. A multitude of new possibilities are emerging to reach users wherever, whenever and however".

Andreas von Buchwaldt, Partner at OC&C Strategy Consultants Düsseldorf, a consulting firm specializing in the media industry, sees clear growth opportunities in the area of "multichannel publishing", with mobile Internet use in particular being an important driver. From the perspective of Ringier, Switzerland's largest media company, and its CEO Marc Walder, "multichannel publishing" is an opportunity to present a variety of content to a variety of users on a variety of channels. For him, one problem is that media usage research is still inadequate and cannot correctly reflect the actual and current digital situation. Ueli Weber, Chief Operating Officer of Publimedia, shares this opinion and emphasized that this problem is particularly virulent in Switzerland.

Matt Gilbert, Head of Business Development at the British media company The Guardian, represented the views of an international media company. In the digital world, it is important to consistently recognize the needs of media users by intelligently setting thematic priorities and increasingly involving them in reporting via blogs or Twitter. Finding the right cooperation models is extremely important, for example The Guardian works with over 200 bloggers. Xavier Ferguson, CEO of Consenda, argued that small local publishers must also increasingly distribute their editorial content digitally in order to remain relevant for all target groups and do justice to changing media usage behavior.

Finally, Stephan Klapproth, presenter of "10vor10", discussed various issues with the speakers and other industry representatives: Paid or free, cooperation or going it alone, which strategy will prevail? The industry representatives agreed that there was no one strategy that would work for everyone. Each player must find its own approach that suits its target audience and its specific focus. It was agreed that the industry needs to work together in the sense of a "frienemy" or "coopetition" approach. "Friend" and at the same time "enemy", "cooperation" and "competition" are approaches to constructively tackle the challenges of the future in the interests of all market participants.

Comedy Central with new logo, new design and new shows from October

Starting October 1, Comedy Central will debut a completely new design and logo. The network will also add five new shows to its lineup.

With the new design, Comedy Central is responding to the target group's media usage behavior of consuming content anywhere, anytime and via a wide variety of platforms, according to a press release issued on Thursday. For years, the globe in the top left-hand corner of the screen was the unmistakable trademark of Comedy Central, according to the statement. However, with the increasing spread of new mobile media formats, such as the iPad, it has become increasingly difficult to integrate the old logo into new formats and thus onto new platforms. The new logo is simple and clear, so that it can be easily integrated into a variety of new media. The core symbol is the double C, which Comedy Central uses to mark its content and say "This is funny shit!". The logo thus emphasizes the quality of the content without having to be funny itself.

The channel is also adding five more shows to its program: on 22 October, the "Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen" will be broadcast, presented by Désirée Nick. It continues with "Immer wieder Jim" from October 25. "Jeff Dunham - Controlled Chaos", "What are you watching?" and "Happy Endings" will start in November and December. In addition, Comedy Central celebrates the seventh season of "American Dad" on November 13.

All shows will be broadcast with the new Comedy Central logo from October 1.

False advertising promises: Reebok must pay millions

Sportswear manufacturer Reebok must pay a sum in the millions for making false advertising claims about sports shoes that supposedly tone muscles. The Adidas subsidiary had advertised the shoes as activating the gluteal and leg muscles.

However, the US trade regulator FTC has now announced that this cannot be proven. According to the information, Reebok must therefore pay 25 million US dollars to compensate deceived customers. The models affected are the "EasyTone" and "RunTone", which used special air cushions under the soles of the shoes to provide "slight instability" when running, which activates the muscles significantly more than conventional sneakers.

"The FTC wants advertisers to understand that they have a responsibility and that their claims about athletic apparel must be scientifically substantiated," said David Vladeck, director of the FTC's consumer protection division. (SDA)
