BT Holding takes over Radio 24 - Espace Media Groupe acquires Langenthaler Tagblatt

BT Holding is acquiring Radio 24 from Tamedia. As a result, the private radio station will be taken over by Peter Wanner. Espace Media Groupe, a subsidiary of Tamedia, is acquiring the Langenthaler Tagblatt from AZ Medien.

Radio 24 will continue to operate as an independent station in Zurich, as Tamedia announced on Monday. All 33 employees of the station will continue to be employed by BT Holding. The transfer of the Radio 24 license must be approved by the Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications in accordance with the Radio and TV Act and will become legally binding once this approval has been obtained. The marketing organization Belcom, in which the sales teams of Radio 24 and Tele Züri are bundled, will be transferred to AZ Medien with all 27 employees (22.7 full-time positions) as of 1 January 2012. AZ Medien AG is majority-owned by BT Holding. The sale of Belcom AG is intended to ensure that Radio 24 and the TV station Tele Züri can continue to operate together in the advertising market. More than the takeover of Radio 24 is no longer possible, said publisher Peter Wanner on Monday at the request of SDA. A joint advertising pool of Radio 24 and Radio Argovia is "conceivable". Tamedia media spokesman Christoph Zimmer described BT Holding as a desired partner. The interest in Radio 24 was "very great".

> Schawinski not pleased about sale of Radio 24 to Wanner

As part of the merger with Edipresse Suisse, the media company Tamedia decided in April of this year to examine the sale of its TV channels, radio stations and specialist media. At the end of August 2011, Tamedia had already announced the sale of Tele Bärn and TeleZüri to AZ Medien.

AZ Medien plans to sell majority stake in Radio 32

AZ Medien AG currently operates Radio 32, the leading radio station in the Solothurn area. As the Radio and TV Act limits the number of private radio licenses under the economic control of a main shareholder to two, AZ Medien plans to enter into talks with potential partners in the coming weeks on the sale of its majority stake of currently 61.3 percent in Radio 32.

Espace Media acquires Langenthaler Tagblatt from AZ Medien

Espace Media Groupe, a subsidiary of the Tamedia media group, is taking over the Langenthaler Tagblatt with all 11 employees (9.6 full-time positions) from AZ Medien. The daily newspaper for the Langenthal region reaches around 18,000 readers every day with a circulation of 8,152 copies (Wemf 2011).

The Langenthaler Tagblatt is to be merged with the Oberaargau regional edition of the BZ Berner Zeitung. The resulting new newspaper will bear the title Langenthaler Tagblatt. The new daily newspaper will reach more than half of the inhabitants of Oberaargau. Following the necessary approval by the Federal Competition Commission, this will create a strong daily newspaper for the Langenthal and Oberaargau region.

The parties have agreed not to disclose the details of the contracts.

Edipresse Suisse becomes Tamedia Publications romandes

As of April 4, 2012, Edipresse Suisse will operate on the market under the new name Tamedia Publications romandes. This was decided by the Boards of Presse Publications and Tamedia.

The choice of the name Tamedia Publications romandes is intended to highlight the central position of the media of Edipresse Suisse within the Tamedia media company, according to a statement on Monday. The addition "Publications romandes", which will also be reflected in the logo, simultaneously stands for the journalistic and organizational independence as well as the regional anchoring in French-speaking Switzerland.

By 2013, the legal company names will also be adapted to the new market presence. The previous company names Presse Publications, Edipresse Publications and Edipub will gradually be replaced by Tamedia Publications romandes, according to the statement. The rights to the previously used name Edipresse are held by Groupe Edipresse. Groupe Edipresse had granted Edipresse Suisse and Tamedia temporary rights of use as part of the merger of Swiss activities from 2009. The introduction of the new company name Tamedia Publications romandes is a direct consequence of these usage rights, which expire at the end of 2012. According to the announcement, the new name has no impact on the organization of the division under the management of Serge Reymond.

Baz: Government demands "rapid transparency

The Basel government is demanding «immediate transparency» regarding the ownership structure of the Basler Zeitung (Baz). On Monday, it explained that the media play an important role in shaping public opinion in a democracy.

The print shop is also to be continued. According to the cantonal constitution, the government is obliged to support the independence and diversity of information. Media represent the diversity of opinion and enable the population to form its own independent opinion. In the case of the Baz, this was "only possible with a rapid disclosure of the ownership structure". (SDA)

Last but not least: social sitting above the clouds

Boring hours on a plane with seatmates you can't even make small talk with about the weather will soon be a thing of the past. At least that's the case with Dutch Royal Airlines.

Social Seating is the magic word: for passengers who log in with their Facebook or Linkedin profile, the Dutch airline will find a seat neighbor with similar interests and hobbies on request. For example, customers with similar tastes in music or overlapping circles of friends can be seated next to each other on the plane. Passengers can also make contact with potential seat neighbors on their own initiative before departure and get an idea of the people with whom they will have to spend a few hours in a very confined space.

Only time will tell whether social seating will prove its worth or whether the need for some peace and quiet on the plane will prevail. And perhaps, if you feel like having a little chat, you'd rather talk about the food served or the flight attendant's hairstyle than about your ex-boyfriend, your preference for Thai women or other things you have in common with the person sitting next to you thanks to social seating ...

Paroli agency wins budget from Howeg

The Zurich-based PR agency Paroli has won the contract to design and produce a new corporate brochure and sales materials for Howeg following a multi-stage pitch.

According to the agency, the decisive factors in the decision were the conceptual thrust, the visual language and the functionality and modularity of the documentation, thanks to which the documents can be compiled for specific target groups and segments.

Howeg is active in the food service sector, is a member of Transgourmet and supplies more than 5,500 hospitals, care homes, restaurants, hotels and bars.

Schawinski not happy about sale of Radio 24 to Wanner

Roger Schawinski, the founder of Radio 24, is not pleased with Tamedia's sale of Radio 24 to Aargau-based publisher Peter Wanner. Schawinski himself had submitted a bid for Radio 24.

With the purchase, Wanner is further expanding its dominant market position in Aargau, Schawinski told the SDA news agency on Monday. In doing so, Wanner is putting the license for Radio Argovia at risk, said Schwainski.

The radio pioneer competed against Wanner's Radio Argovia with Radio AG in 2008, but came away empty-handed. Schawinski suffered the same fate in south-eastern Switzerland. However, he lodged an appeal with the Federal Administrative Court against the award of the license by the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC). In December 2009, the court ruled in his favor and that the Uvek would have to go back to the drawing board. The only question to be examined is whether the licensees jeopardize freedom of expression and freedom of choice. Following the purchase of Radio 24, Schawinski is hoping for a decision in his favor.

Wanner had always argued that he did not have a dominant market position because the Zurich radio stations, and in particular market leader Radio 24, were strong competitors. With the planned purchase, Wanner's earlier argument is now being turned against him, according to Schawinski. (SDA)

Mediapulse: New measurement system for TV ratings

In recent years, numerous technological innovations have brought a great deal of dynamism to the world of TV viewing. To keep pace with these new challenges, Mediapulse will introduce a new system for measuring TV ratings in 2013.

Mediapulse has asked the world's most important providers of such measurement systems for offers, the company said in a statement. In an extensive test and evaluation process, three internationally experienced providers were examined. The Mediapulse Board of Directors unanimously selected the offer from Kantar Media, based in London.

According to the announcement, Kantar Media will set up a local office in Switzerland in 2012 and build a representative panel equipped with the modern measurement system. From January 1, 2013, this new panel will provide the official TV ratings for the whole of Switzerland. The technical innovations in measurement, as well as optimizations in the selection of participating households, should make it possible for TV consumption to be measured even more accurately in the future. For the first time, time-shifted use and use via the Internet will be fully included in the TV usage figures from 2013. As a result, reported TV consumption is expected to rise further.

This decision does not affect the recording of Swiss radio consumption. This will continue to be measured by GFK Switzerland with the help of Mediawatch.
