Last but not least: swap sterilization for a blender

In the Indian desert state of Rajasthan, couples have an average of 3.2 children. That is significantly more than the government would like. To lower the birth rate, the authorities have come up with a rather bizarre lottery.

The "game" was launched this summer. It was a lottery in which men and women who underwent sterilization could win all kinds of things: a car, motorcycles, televisions or blenders. And the financial incentive seems to have served its purpose: A total of 1,838 people underwent sterilization between July and October - 300 more than in the same period last year.

According to the NZZ, the idea of motivating people to undergo sterilization through financial incentives is anything but new: the operation is free of charge in state hospitals and mobile health centers throughout India. In Rajasthan, women receive the equivalent of around 14 francs from the state, men around twice as much. In a district in Madhya Pradesh plagued by bandits, men who have undergone infertility treatment have even received a gun license. Different countries, different customs. In addition to the cars, blenders and gun licenses, we recommend running one or two awareness campaigns and investing a few francs in the education of the general population. Then it will certainly work out well.

The most popular TV stars in Switzerland

Mona Vetsch, Nik Hartmann, and Jann Billeter are Switzerland's most popular TV stars. Roger Schawinski was named the least popular host.

The future "Club" presenter Mona Vetsch was the clear winner in the Information category - even though she had little TV presence in 2011, according to a statement from Tele and TV-Star. Vetsch referred Stephan Klapproth (rank 2) and Franz Fischlin (3rd place) took the places. The decision in the sports category was very close: there Rainer Maria Salzgeber and Jann Billeter a neck-and-neck race. In the end, Billeter won with a 0.3% lead. In 3rd place Beni Thurnheer. Clearly the result in the conversation with the winner Nik Hartmann. "Nik is simply totally authentic," said many. To summarize: the closer a star is to "bi de Lüt", the greater their popularity. Behind Nik Hartmann came Mike miller and Viktor Giacobbofollowed in 4th place Sven Epiney.

Incidentally, the most unpopular TV presenter was Roger Schawinski chosen. Further results can be found in the current issues of Tele and TV-Star.

The survey was conducted by the Zurich-based opinion research institute Link: For two weeks, around 900 Swiss-German TV viewers (aged between 15 and 74) were interviewed in a representative survey. There were three categories: Entertainment, Information and Sport. Only one name could be mentioned in each category.

85 percent of Swiss private households have an Internet connection

At least 85 percent of private households in Switzerland now have an Internet connection, according to an updated report from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) for the year 2010.

The results confirm Switzerland's position among the top European countries in terms of both the Internet connection rate of private households and the rate of broadband connections, as can be seen from the FSO website according to SDA. With a household connection rate of now 85%, Switzerland is now ahead of Germany (82%), the UK (80%), France (74%) and especially Italy, which is clearly lagging behind with a household connection rate of 59% (EU-27 average: 70%). South Korea is the clear leader of all countries with a connection rate of 96%.

Average for mobile telephony in OECD countries

The last BFU survey published at the beginning of February showed that 77% of Swiss private households had an internet connection as at 2010. This figure was determined as part of the new census system. The new figures correspond to a refined evaluation.

With 124 cell phone subscribers per 100 inhabitants in 2010, Switzerland is in line with the average for OECD countries. While growth in the number of users in Switzerland was still strong at the end of the 1990s, this trend has weakened again since 2001. Very weak in 2004, growth picked up again in 2007 and 2008. Since 2009, there have been signs of a decline in growth again. At the end of 2009, Switzerland also had 44.9 landlines per 100 inhabitants, which corresponds to a decline of 9% since 2005.

At the SDV Junior Award, young creatives showcase their talents to a wide audience. The award has quickly become an important part of the Swiss Dialog Marketing Awards. The submission deadline is January 31, 2012.

The first SDV Junior Award was presented in May 2010. The fact that the award has already overtaken its German counterpart in its first year with six entries shows that it meets a need. And who will win the SDV Junior Award 2012? The deadline for entries is January 31, 2012.

The SDV Junior Award is based on an identical briefing for all participants. The entries submitted are assessed by a panel of experts. In addition to the criteria of originality and ingenuity, the jury attaches particular importance to the integration of dialog-specific elements. A plausible, clearly understandable and convincing message is the be-all and end-all. The winner will be announced at the Award Night on June 22, 2012 at the Kongresshaus Zurich.

JvM/Limmat: When the Chäferli is no longer a Chäferli

Jung von Matt/Limmat has created new ad campaigns for Fritz+Fränzi magazine. The campaigns focus on controversial topics such as bulimia, violence, and juvenile delinquency.

With illustrations in children's book style, figures are shown, each of which stands for a typical child's pet name. The normally sweet characters are all conspicuous for their problematic behavior, with which they bid farewell to their childlike innocence. For example, the "Prinzässli"' who willingly vomits, the "Spätzli" who has just stolen a sweater or the "Chäferli" who beats up another "Chäferli".

The ads and posters have been appearing in family-oriented magazines throughout German-speaking Switzerland since December.

Responsible at Fritz+Fränzi: Thomas Schlickenrieder (Publishing Director Fritz+Fränzi). Responsible at Jung von Matt/Limmat: Lukas Frei (CD), Christian Schnellmann (text), Adrian Merz (AD), Deborah Herzig (art buying), Ariane Sonderegger (consulting), Nathalie Kilany, Johan Potma, Christoph Abbrederis (illustrations).
