FHNW: New degree program in Online Marketing Management

The School of Business at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) is launching the first federally recognized degree program in Online Marketing Management. The program will begin in March 2012 and last 21 months.

In the block seminars and through guided self-study, participants in the new Master's program will learn all about the new communication channels, as detailed in a press release. They will also learn how to apply them to their specific marketing goals at their place of work. Proven experts from universities and from the field will show participants how they can integrate online and social media marketing into their existing marketing mix and further optimize it. There are separate modules on the topics of "Online Marketing", "E-Commerce", "Strategic Online Marketing Management" and "Social Media Management".

In addition to teaching sound theoretical principles, the new course places particular emphasis on practical orientation. Participants work on current practical examples with partners and case studies from their own company. As the course is strongly geared towards the professional practice of online marketing specialists, this learning concept enables the ongoing transfer from teaching directly into the participants' day-to-day work. In this way, employers also benefit directly from the additional specialist knowledge of their employees.

It is aimed at marketing professionals who want to acquire management and conceptual knowledge in the online disciplines of marketing as well as e-commerce managers, community managers or social media managers who are looking for a holistic education with a recognized qualification. In addition, people with a technical background can improve their strategic and conceptual online marketing knowledge. Admission to the course requires a university degree and proof of relevant professional experience. Prospective students without a university degree can be admitted "sur dossier" if they are suitable.

Advico Y&R: wafer-thin poster created for Citterio

Not all customers want to cut the salami by hand. Advico was therefore commissioned to promote the pre-sliced Salame di Milano in a fresh pack.

The idea: the back wall was removed at poster locations and replaced with a printed thread curtain. As a result, the salami depicted on it appears exactly as it does in the Citterio fresh pack: sliced wafer-thin.

Reporters Without Borders: Press Freedom Award Presented

Renowned Syrian cartoonist Ali Farsat and the Burmese weekly magazine *Weekly Eleven News* have been awarded this year's Press Freedom Prize by the journalists' organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

«We are honoring a courageous journalist who has fallen victim to the bloody repression of an archaic system,» said RSF President Jean-François Julliard on Thursday during a ceremony in Paris. Ali Farsat’s cartoons exposed the excesses of a regime cornered. At the same time, they encouraged Syrians to demand their right to freedom of expression. «Weekly Eleven News» was chosen to honor a magazine «that never backed down in the face of censorship,» Julliard continued. Its editorial stance consistently opposed the military junta in Burma, putting its editors at risk of imprisonment.

Since 1992, RSF has awarded the Press Freedom Prize to one journalist and one media outlet each year. The winners are selected by a jury composed of journalists and human rights activists. This year, the Paris evening newspaper *Le Monde* has joined the initiative.

Ali Farsat had already been awarded this year’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought by the European Parliament at the end of October, along with four other Arab Spring activists. In his cartoons, he repeatedly targeted Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad and government officials. In August, he was brutally beaten by masked gunmen in the heart of Damascus. The official award ceremony for the Sakharov Prize is scheduled for next Wednesday at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. (SDA)
