Media Institute: 16 media managers graduated

The Media Institute congratulates the 16 graduates who successfully passed the exams to earn the title of federally certified media manager.

In the first week of February, they answered questions from experts, as detailed in a press release on Wednesday. Afghan female TV journalists to wear less makeup

Afghan female television journalists must wear little makeup and always a headscarf in front of the camera. The Ministry of Culture and Information issued a corresponding instruction to several television stations. The reason given is "respect for Islamic and Afghan culture.

"All TV channels are strictly urged to stop allowing female presenters to appear on screen without headscarves and wearing too much makeup," the letter to the channels said, according to a spokesman. The spokesman said that according to Islamic laws prevailing in Afghanistan, women may only appear in public wearing headscarves, and their ears must be covered. This rule also applies to women working in television, he added. According to the statement, the letter followed a complaint from the Ulema Council, the highest religious body in Afghanistan.

Since the fall of the radical Islamic Taliban ten years ago, the situation of women in Afghanistan has improved noticeably, especially in the large cities. In rural areas, however, women are often still denied basic rights. As recently as the end of January, an Afghan man beat his wife to death because she had given birth to a third girl, but he wanted a son. The independent Afghan Human Rights Commission counted more than 1,000 cases of violence against women in the first half of 2011 alone.

According to a study published in October by the aid organization Oxfam, 87 percent of the women surveyed said they had already suffered physical, sexual or psychological violence or had been forcibly married. (SDA/AFP)

Goldbach Group launches Goldbach Video Network

Goldbach Group launches the Goldbach Video Network: The advertising network aggregates video content from 30 providers and delivers over 40 million video views per month from Swiss consumers across various devices.

Information and entertainment are increasingly being distributed and consumed in the form of digital, moving images, according to a statement on Wednesday. The convergence of TV and the Internet is changing the way consumers interact with media content. Moving image content is received via a wide variety of devices in a linear, non-linear and location-independent manner over the Internet. This makes it increasingly difficult for advertisers to reach relevant target groups efficiently and effectively in a fragmented environment.

To solve this challenge, Goldbach Group has launched a video solution, it adds. The Goldbach Video Network aggregates the highest-reach premium advertising platforms across all screens into one simple offering. The network is continuously being expanded with new platforms, end devices and technologies.

The Goldbach Group uses "state of the art" technology to enable advertisers to show video advertising across a wide range of platforms, devices and screens in an environment of rapidly changing media usage behavior. With over 40 million video streams per month on more than 30 premium platforms, the Goldbach Video Network has the reach advertisers need to effectively deliver their video message.

Last but not least: Advertising for the Sexbox

In mid-March, the people of Zurich will vote on “sex booths,” often referred to as “quickie booths.” Of course, there’s a campaign underway. Two Zurich-based graphic designers have tried to do it better.

"Safety and order: Yes to the prostitution site" is written on the official posters above a photo of a scantily clad lady leaning through the car window towards a lecherous driver. A Sihlquai-like landscape can be faintly seen in the background. It could possibly give the impression that the intention is to promote a "yes" to the lecherous driver or to lechery in general. Or for more scantily clad people to cavort in Zurich's streets.

The two Zurich graphic designers Andrea Münch and Markus Läubli must have thought the same thing. And instead of lechery and nudity, they placed the box as such at the center of the subjects:

Observer Prix Courage: Pascale Bruderer becomes jury president

Pacale Bruderer Wyss, a member of the Council of States from Aargau representing the Social Democratic Party (SP), will take over as jury president from Franz Hohler and will lead the jury in preparation for the 2012 Beobachter Prix Courage award ceremony on September 6 in Zurich.

Author and former cabaret artist Franz Hohler is stepping down after seven years at the helm of the Prix Courage jury. Pascale Bruderer Wyss is an "absolutely ideal choice" for this position, says Andres Büchi, editor-in-chief of the Beobachter. "As a politician, but also as a person, she has the gift of conveying values that are important for Switzerland in a convincing and credible way."

This year's Prix Courage will be awarded on Thursday, September 6 in Zurich. The five-member jury includes four former winners of the Prize for Civil Courage. The main prize is endowed with 25'000 Swiss francs and is awarded directly by the independent jury. The readers of the Beobachter also decide on the audience prize, which is worth 10'000 Swiss francs.

Kachelmann: Successful lawsuit against media

Weather anchor Jörg Kachelmann has successfully sued over the detailed coverage of his own trial. The media should not have been allowed to publish details of the defendant’s private life at that time without further ado.

This also applies if these circumstances were addressed in the public hearing, as the Cologne Higher Regional Court ruled on Tuesday. Kachelmann, who was charged with the suspected rape of an ex-girlfriend and acquitted by the Mannheim Regional Court, had sued against the reporting of several media. He had already received justice from the Regional Court. The appeals of the media have now also been rejected.

During questioning, Kachelmann had described in detail the usual and consensual sexual intercourse between him and his ex-girlfriend. The three media sued had disseminated details of this. In the opinion of the Higher Regional Court, this infringed on Kachelmann's right of personality. The interest of the media had to take second place to the plaintiff's right to protection of his privacy, it said. The publicity of a courtroom could not be compared with the effect of a publication in the media, and even more so of a publication on the Internet.

The details published had no connection with the specific accusation. Until a conviction, the presumption of innocence applies in favor of the accused. The Higher Regional Court has allowed an appeal to the Federal Supreme Court. (SDA/DAPD)

APG|SGA Mountain: Billposting in the mountains

For its latest campaign, Crédit Agricole Private Banking engaged APG|SGA Mountain for the implementation on the mountain. In line with the bank's claim, "Wealth management needs accuracy," the posters are intended to illustrate what Swiss precision work means.

APG|SGA measured the exact height of a total of twenty billboard sites in the regions of St. Moritz, Zermatt, and Gstaad/Saanen using GPS measuring devices from Allnav, the company writes in a statement. The performance of the project team is noteworthy, it says: the sites are sometimes located in extremely difficult terrain and at high altitudes. The range of the measured altitude meters above sea level is considerable. The highest placard is located at 3092.53 meters above sea level at the Gornergrat mountain station. The lowest is at 1268.23 meters above sea level at the Saanenmöser valley station in the area of Gstaad Mountain Rides.

The Crédit Agricole Private Banking campaign was realized in collaboration with the Euro RSCG Genève agency. APG|SGA Mountain provided the multiple controlled data.
