With a gross advertising volume of more than 461 million Swiss francs, the 450 million mark was already surpassed for the first time this year in March, as Media Focus writes in a press release. Since 2009, the largest advertising volume in the first half of the year (January to June) has always been measured in March. This volume was only reached or exceeded again in September. If the Swiss advertising market continues to develop in line with the trend of recent years this year, advertising pressure is likely to be reduced in the coming months, bottoming out in July before recovering in September.
Stable at a high level
The advertising activities of the "Food" sector accounted for around 9 percent (40.8 million Swiss francs) of the advertising print generated in March. With this share, the "Food" sector was in second place, surpassed by the "Vehicles" sector with a share of 13 percent (CHF 60.8 million). Compared with the previous year, however, the overall advertising volume in the "Food" sector remained stable in March. Within the sector, however, some changes were apparent. For example, advertising pressure for the "Sauces, soups, seasonings" sector was massively increased in percentage terms in March 2012 compared with 2011 and stood at over 3.7 million Swiss francs (+229 percent; +2.6 million Swiss francs). This development was driven, among other things, by the intensive promotion of the product "Thomy Mayonnaise with Mustard," which took place exclusively on television.
Posters at their best
In the first quarter of 2012, the gross advertising volume generated by the "Poster" media group increased by more than 23 percent year-on-year (+21.7 million Swiss francs) and totaled around 115 million Swiss francs. Poster advertising in the automotive industry was particularly popular. Just under one-third (28 percent) of the advertising print was generated by advertising for vehicles.
