Ruf Lanz melts muscles for Suva

Starting at age 30, a person’s muscle strength—and thus their balance—begins to decline steadily. Ruf Lanz promoted Suva’s new balance program in light of this statement.

The agency promotes the new balance program with an analogy: on advertisements, posters and in a film, a candle is seen in the shape of a leg, as known from medical illustrations.

The slow melting of the candle symbolizes the dwindling muscular strength from the 30th birthday.

New Head of Sales & Marketing at Trafo Baden

As of April 1, Reto Leder has been the Head of Sales & Marketing at the Trafo Baden Convention Center. He succeeds Daniel Alb, who is taking on a new role in the Marketing & Communications department in Zurich.

This was followed by seven years in Argentina as a resident manager in four- and five-star hotels and as head of quality control at Gate Gourmet. Other important milestones in his career were the shipping companies Cunard, for which he developed and implemented an internal training project for employees, and Seabourn Cruise Line, where Reto Leder looked after the well-being of the ship's passengers as Hotel Manager on the high seas. He then headed the marketing and communications department of the Swiss hotel management school Cesar Ritz Colleges. Here he was also responsible for the development of new markets in Latin America.

Reto Leder will be supported in his new challenge by Jasmin Burkhalter, Walter Sanchez, Karin Müller and Franziska Kägi. EU Commission demands concessions from Google

The European Commission is demanding concessions from Google in the proceedings regarding the abuse of its dominant market position. EU Competition Commissioner Joaquín Almunia said Monday in Brussels that he had sent a letter to the search engine giant containing this request.

Google must make proposals "within a few weeks" and change any anti-competitive practices - otherwise it could face high fines of up to ten percent of its annual turnover. "I hope Google will take this opportunity to address our concerns," said Almunia.

The EU Commission opened proceedings against Google in November 2010. The EU competition watchdogs are investigating indications that the company deliberately displayed the offers of other search services too far back in the results for product queries. Instead, Google placed its own services in a prominent position below the search results. The IT giant may also have driven up prices for online advertising.

There are no fixed deadlines in the proceedings. (sda)

Republica: Jumping on the global savings trend for Budgetdent

Republica has been tasked with handling the launch communications for the three new offices in Ebikon, Oerlikon, and Dietikon operated by the Budgetdent dental center chain. Additional locations are set to open over the next four years, and Republica will also handle the marketing for those locations.

The campaign heads are Angela Merkel, Nicolas Sarkozy and Barak Obama. However, while they often only talk, or talked, unsuccessfully about saving money, Budgetdent takes action and offers its customers treatments that are up to half the price of its Swiss competitors, as the agency commented on its campaign in a press release on Monday. To coincide with the branch openings in Ebikon (LU), Oerlikon and Dietikon (ZH), Republica created and designed posters, a flap mailing, a floss sampling and the packaging for the Trisa Sonic electric toothbrush, which the first 150 customers receive in each case.

Republica is also responsible for online advertising (banners, Adwords, Facebook) together with Zauberküche. Thanks to a new accesspoint-controlled system, the banners appear on national websites, but are only visible to users within a 5-kilometer radius of the branches. Republica also supports Budgetdent with media relations.

The implementation partners for the campaign were Zauberküche, ace2ace and Promo Post.

New owner of Radio 24 approved

Radio Medien AG is acquiring Radio 24 from Tamedia. The Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy, and Communications (UVEK) has approved the corresponding transfer of Radio 24's license.

With the approval of the Uvek, Radio 24's FM radio license in the Zurich-Glarus coverage area changes hands. Radio 24 was previously 100 percent owned by Tamedia. It now belongs to Radio Medien AG, which is owned by publisher Peter Wanner's BT Holding.

The takeover of the license will not result in any personnel or journalistic changes. The proven program of Radio 24 will be continued. This is what Bakom wrote on Friday. The new owner undertakes to comply with the assurances given by Radio 24 in its license application regarding the scope, content, nature and financing of the program.

The Uvek had conducted a public consultation with the governments of the cantons of Zurich and Aargau as well as with other interested parties. None of the eight comments argued in principle against approval. After expiry of the 30-day appeal period to the Federal Administrative Court, the Uvek's decision will enter into force.

According to the Radio and Television Act (RTVG), a company may acquire a maximum of two radio licenses, according to Bakom. BT Holding already holds two radio licenses, Radio Argovia and Radio 32. Because Radio Argovia is a provisionally granted license, it is not attributable to BT Holding. At present, it is still open to whom the FM license will definitely be awarded in Aargau; the corresponding procedure is still pending. In the meantime, BT Holding has announced the sale of its majority stake in Radio 32. The necessary approval from the Uvek is still pending.

Better social plan demanded by Tamedia workforce

On May 9, Tamedia announced that "full journalistic competition" would be restored between Tages-Anzeiger and the Zurich regional newspapers. The staffs of Tages-Anzeiger and Tamedia's regional newspapers Zürichsee-Zeitung and Zürcher Unterländer are now demanding a better social plan for the ten people who will be laid off in connection with the abandonment of the TA's regional split strategy.

The layoffs are related to Tamedia's announcement last week that it will reverse its split strategy and end cooperation between the editorial teams of TA and the regional newspapers. This will result in the dismissal of six employees of ZU and ZSZ as well as four members of the TA regional editorial team. At editorial meetings on May 10 and 11, to which the Syndicom union and the Impressum professional association were also invited, the staff decided to stand up for a better social plan.

In a petition to company management, the affected editorial staff are demanding a decent social plan, negotiated with the social partners and starting at least from the level of the contract negotiated in 2009, according to a statement from Syndicom and Imprint. The petition was submitted by mail on Wednesday with a good 80 signatures. Syndicom and Impressum support the actions of the editorial staff and expect that they will be called to the negotiating table by the management. Both the severance payments and the offers of early retirement are lower than those negotiated in the 2009 social plan.
