Wirz wins overall PKZ Group contract

Following a competitive pitch, PKZ Burger-Kehl & Co. has selected Wirz as its new lead agency for all its brands.

These include PKZ, Feldpausch, Blue Dog, Burger, Paul Kehl and the new fashion online store Thelook.com. "Wirz was able to convince us with its broad range of services and its integrated approach, which ranged from pointed strategic insights into the market and our brands to stimulating ideas also from the digital world," says Ph. Oliver Burger, commenting on the decision in favor of the agency from Zurich's Uetlibergstrasse.

This is not the first time PKZ has chosen Wirz, as the agency already worked for the Swiss fashion company in the 1950s and 1970s. The first results of the renewed collaboration, with many elements in the on and offline areas, will be on display from the middle of the year.

Radio 24: "Ladder game" on the hotel facade

At the beginning of the week, a window cleaner dressed as Spiderman hung high up on the facade of the Marriott Hotel. This was the new Radio 24 morning show host.

Dominik Widmer, new Radio 24 morning show host, finished his "training camp" with Patrick Hässig last week and was allowed to prove on his first day of work that he is not too good for anything, as it says in a statement on Monday. So he climbed into the facade lift of the Marriott Hotel with bucket and mop. Meanwhile, his colleague Elena Bernasconi played a "Leiterlispiel" quiz with the listeners live in the studio. If the questions were answered correctly, Dominik had to descend a few meters, and if the questions were answered incorrectly, he had to climb back up. At a height of 24 meters, Dominik was allowed to take a breather and refresh himself briefly: with a well-known "Ufsteller-Brötli". The goal was to bring Dominik safely back to the ground. Via a live video stream, the audience was able to watch the Radio24.ch see how the new presenter fared at dizzy heights.

Last but not least: Lufthansa lets antiquated role models fly

Lufthansa sent out a promotional postcard of a very special kind: The card sparked outrage online and was described as sexist and outdated.

In the last few days, Lufthansa has sent out an advertising letter addressing male customers of the Miles&More card - with "Dear Darling". The letter writer goes on to ask her "dear darling" to use his credit card to order the Lufthansa card for her so that she can benefit from a subscription to Vogue, among other things. "You know how much I like browsing through magazines like that". Finally, the letter ends with the signature "Your Special Women" with a kiss underneath. The whole campaign is sexist in so many ways and takes the reader back to the 1950s that such a campaign can no longer be taken seriously. Lufthansa must have thought so too, because they apologized and emphasized according to Focus.de: "It had not been the intention to serve outdated role models". Lufthansa's reaction was followed by a storm of protest on Facebook and Twitter. According to Focus.de, the online edition of Süddeutsche Zeitung responded with a letter to Lufthansa. In it, the author thanks the men on their behalf: "After the initial shock of reading this letter, they were relieved to discover that they have a woman who earns her own money, has her own credit card and even collects her own air miles."

Pressetext.ch does not take such a narrow view of this campaign. Here, the advertising mail is described as a "supposedly sexist advertising campaign". Some women were "outraged" by the antiquated image of women conveyed by this letter. Pressetext interviewed brand expert Thomas Otte. He says: "Lufthansa's advertising campaign is cautiously original and has no potential for polarization. This outrage is an interesting example of artificially sparked outrage culture". He continues: "This exaggerated political correctness on the part of frustrated outrage artists stifles all creativity, originality and individuality in our society. As a result, only the mainstream is accepted."

Since Mr. Otte is rather enthusiastic about the clumsy kind and is unable to recognize the subtle differences, we have found just the right little film for him:

Branders: Rebranding realized for Thurgauer Kantonalbank

Thurgauer Kantonalbank has commissioned Branders to oversee a comprehensive rebranding process. To this end, the consulting firm—which specializes in branding—has launched a holistic change process.

In addition to the brand image, this is intended to ensure the long-term integration of the brand into employee training and thus into employee behavior. In an initial phase, the foundations for the brand structure, brand positioning and brand personality were defined together with the CEO and the management based on the new corporate strategy. As the leading universal bank in the canton, the bank's goal is to place customer orientation and the advisory experience at the center of its activities more than ever before.

This is reflected in the new claim "More from life". This is the core promise. The bank takes care of the needs of customers in all phases of life, it convinces with comprehensive competence, is strongly committed to the canton and pursues a sustainable business model. All qualities that should give customers the good feeling of "more from life," according to the agency's claim. This should also express the high quality of life in the canton: Short distances, lots of nature and yet located close to the city. Specific green color combinations are used in the brand identity. This is intended to make it appear fresh, while the imagery is intended to create an emotional closeness. A focus frame helps to focus on core messages.

The campaign is implemented comprehensively and consistently in print media and brochures, in labeling, in online applications such as an i-Phone app and mobile website, through to correspondence materials, newsletters and factsheets. To ensure that the brand creates sustainable value, it is also positioned in the external job market as well as internally. The promise to potential and existing employees is "Achieving more together". Externally, the brand can also be experienced via a brand campaign starting in mid-June. Neue LGK is responsible for the brand campaign.

Facebook must restrict marketing of "Sponsored Stories"

Facebook is facing new challenges in its advertising strategy. In the future, users will be able to prevent themselves from appearing as unpaid brand ambassadors in «Sponsored Stories» when, for example, they mention a product or company.

The online network has agreed to this in a settlement with which it is settling a class action lawsuit before a court in California. In addition, Facebook must clearly inform users in future that it is marketing certain statements. As "Sponsored Stories" are considered an effective advertising tool, the agreement could lead to significant losses in revenue.

The instrument, which was introduced at the beginning of 2011, allows companies to
advertising campaigns can highlight certain Facebook posts by users - mainly when they click on the "Like" button for a brand or product. The respective Facebook friends are prominently displayed with the member's name and photo. The company must now draw attention to the function in its terms of use and provide unspecified mechanisms for controlling "Sponsored Stories".

Facebook will pay the plaintiffs' legal fees up to USD 10 million and donate a further USD 10 million to non-commercial organizations. The company has six months to implement the settlement. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg once described personal recommendations from friends - as given with the sponsored ads - as the "holy grail of advertising". The settlement thus makes it more difficult to market the social network's extensive reach. (sda)
