Webguerillas: Streetwalking instead of catwalking

With an online guerrilla campaign, the agency Webguerillas aims to raise awareness about human trafficking. To that end, they sent Joiz host Gülsha and fashion blogger Mirjam out onto the streets and called for a “stiletto run.”.

For the campaign on behalf of the non-profit organization Glowbal Act, TV presenter Gülsha (Joiz TV) and fashion blogger Mirjam Herms (Chic & Smart) were won over. The two young women report excitedly - Gühlsa on the Joiz news program and Mirjam via video blog - about a dream job they have been offered. With camera in hand, the women are on their way to the casting. But instead of the supposed new employer, an unknown man opens the door. The man drags Gülsha and Mirjam into the house and knocks them down. Instead of being in the limelight, the two women end up on the street. The call follows to set a sign against human trafficking and to take part in the stiletto run.

To achieve the greatest possible surprise effect, the message was placed live in a news broadcast and in a normal-looking blog post. Via TV and social media, the virals reached several tens of thousands of Swiss people without media issues, according to a statement. In the run-up to the event, Mirjam Herms announced on Twitter and Facebook that she had landed a modeling job and would be reporting on it shortly.

All participants worked on a voluntary basis and left the proceeds of the event entirely to the benefit of victims of human trafficking. The Zurich Stiletto Run was attended by around 250 women in high heels last Saturday.

Responsible at Glowbal Act: Tabea Oppliger (President), Sonja De Iaco, Timea Keller. Responsible at Webguerillas: Conrad Malcher (Creative Director), Daniel Gremli (Concept and Text), Norbert Rieger (Art Direction), Christian Schiller (PR), Tatjana Meichtry (Consulting).

Microsoft: Vulnerability of the online advertising market

The U.S. software company Microsoft has to write down its online advertising company aQuantive significantly. The 6.2 billion adjustment to goodwill will be made in the fourth quarter, Microsoft announced on Monday.

Microsoft had acquired the company five years ago for $6.3 billion. At the time, it was the software manufacturer's largest purchase in the company's history, surpassed only by the acquisition of Skype for $8.5 billion last year.

With the purchase, the group wanted to catch up more strongly with rivals Google and Yahoo. "The acquisition has not accelerated growth to the extent expected, which led to the write-down," the group statement now said. In addition, expectations for future growth and profitability of the online services division, which includes the search engine Bing and the Internet portal MSN, were lower than hoped.

The online business is Microsoft's weak spot. Google, the number one search engine, rakes in billions through graphic ads and purchased links. Microsoft, instead, has to choke: In the first three quarters of the current fiscal year alone, the operating loss of the online services division was more than $1.4 billion. (SDA/RTD/DAPD/DPA)

Last but not least: vomiting in the name of advertising

Don't buy things too cheaply—neither coffee nor office supplies—that's the rather banal and unremarkable message of a Leitz commercial. The execution, on the other hand, takes some getting used to.

The office equipment in the British spot turns out to be unusable - it breaks, doesn't work and thus causes annoyed staff. The coffee doesn't seem to be a highlight in terms of taste either - the brownish stains on the employees' shirts are a foreboding sign. And indeed: there is unrestrained spitting and vomiting, regardless of the consequences. Disgusting!

Typical British humor or just a shot that backfired? In any case, the company should get rid of the taste of coffee being thrown up as quickly as possible - whatever the cost.

It also includes advertisements and other accompanying measures.

Study: SRG programs more popular than private channels

The majority of the audience is fairly or even very satisfied with the programming offered by public and private broadcasters in Switzerland. This is shown by the OFCOM study on program quality conducted by the University of Zurich.

In a media comparison, radio performs better with around 70% of the audience very and fairly satisfied than television with 55%. And at 70%, significantly more people are satisfied with SRG radio programs than with private broadcasters (55%). While satisfaction with SRG radio programs has improved slightly over the last three years, satisfaction with private radio providers has deteriorated.

Almost two thirds of respondents are very or fairly satisfied with SRG television programs, while only 44% of viewers are moderately or very satisfied with the programs offered by private broadcasters. Private television is rated significantly lower than SRG programs in terms of quality and entertainment value.

The findings are based on representative samples of around 3,600 telephone interviews in 18 regions of Switzerland. The surveys were conducted last fall and spring by the Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research at the University of Zurich (IPMZ).
