Gassmann launches the winning configurator

With «Vote & Win,» the Gassmann media group is launching a contest format that is much more than a simple raffle. Using the prize configurator, users and readers of the Bieler Tagblatt and the Journal du Jura get to choose for themselves, week after week, what their prize will actually look like in the end.

Ultimately, it is the prize configured by the readers and users themselves that will be raffled off among all game participants, according to a statement. Until that time comes, the game participants discover numerous product options of the basic price over the course of four game weeks and actively deal with the prize.

For the first edition of "Vote&Win - Your win configurator", the partner Amag Biel/Bienne is providing a VW Up! as a basic prize. In the first week of voting from October 8 to 12, readers and users will choose the color of the VW in a first step. The majority decision determines with which color the car goes into the next rounds of the game, where in turn new equipment options are to be discovered and configured. In addition, each week accessory prizes of the new VW Up! will be raffled among all weekly participants. A total of four election weeks will be held, each with three new selection options, the release continues.

"Vote & Win - Your Win Configurator" is a further development of existing survey tools. The implementation and further development of the poll idea was done internally by Redmouse, an IT company belonging to the Gassmann Group. The game is advertised by means of advertisements in the Bieler Tagblatt and the Journal du Jura as well as with classic online advertising media on the respective internet platforms. The game platform is fully integrated into the existing Internet presence and also includes social media components, which further publicize the game among the game participants' circles of friends.

Shortcuts: Campaign for Notenstein Private Bank

Today sees the launch of Notenstein Private Bank's "We think in scenarios" communication campaign. The centerpiece is a commercial that is unusual for the industry, produced by the Zurich agency and production company Shortcuts.

As the agency writes in a press release, the commercial is intended to raise awareness of the young private bank Notenstein and sharpen its image. In terms of content, it emphasizes Notenstein's ability to think in terms of scenarios in asset management as a response to an increasingly unpredictable and constantly changing world. With the TV commercial, Notenstein is breaking new ground in communication and thereby making its name known to a broad public, the press release continues. Notenstein's values, in particular forward-looking asset management, are to be anchored and dramatized in the commercial.

In this 30-second spot, the viewer is taken on a journey across the Alpstein region of Eastern Switzerland and experiences various moods along the way, which are underpinned by questions such as "Are we facing stormy times?" or "Do you know what tomorrow holds?". According to the agency, the honest and open answer "We don't know" is unique in banking advertising.

The Zurich agency and production company Shortcuts created and realized the TV commercial in close collaboration with the Notenstein Private Bank marketing team, in co-production with Solid & Hallerfilm and the directing duo Rainer Binz and Benjamin Kempf.

The TV commercial will be broadcast on the three public TV channels SF1, RTS Un and RSI LA 1, mostly during prime time - around the news bulletin, before and after the formats "10 vor 10", "Eco" and "Rundschau". In French-speaking Switzerland around "Le Journal" and in Ticino before "Telegiornale". The TV commercial is accompanied by a nationwide print and online campaign in the national and regional daily and business press. The photos were taken by the young Appenzell artist and photographer Ueli Alder realized.

AZ Medien: Sale of Radio 32 stake

AZ Medien has sold its 11.28 percent minority stake in Radio 32 to Multimedia Gassmann. As a result, the media company has completely divested itself of its stake in Radio 32. Its representative on the board of directors has resigned.

Multimedia Gassmann now holds 16.28 percent of Radio 32. AZ Medien had already divested itself of its majority stake at the time in May 2012, thus fulfilling a provision of the RTVG according to which a media company may not own more than two radios. Wirz: Film for Pax systems from Ikea

The Zurich-based agency Wirz produced a commercial for IKEA that shows how Pax adapts to customers’ individual needs and is highly versatile.

Pax from Ikea is the best-known and most popular cabinet system in Switzerland, the agency writes in a statement. Nevertheless, many are not aware of how flexibly it can adapt to even very individual ideas. Which prompted Wirz to stage the Pax for once not as the typical closet in the bedroom, but with more surprising contents.

Ikea advertising manager Katrin Polzer says: "Because we all live our lives differently, we also want to furnish ourselves differently. Ikea understands this desire and with Pax offers a cabinet solution that leaves the necessary space for this. The film shows this in a charming way,
emotional way."

Wirz realized the spot together with Markenfilm Schweiz and Berlin-based director Wiebke Berndt in both 30- and 40-second versions.

Responsible at Ikea: Mikael Pilblad (Marketing Manager Switzerland), Katrin Polzer (External Communication Manager), Annelies Bühler (Project Leader Campaign). Responsible at Wirz Advertising: Thomas Kurzmeyer (CD), Raul Serrat (art direction), Bianca Kury, Marietta Mügge (text) Yves Rückert, Stefan Schmid (consulting), Gordon Nemitz (strategy); Markenfilm (film production), Wiebke Berndt (direction).

Twelve points for the Salvation Army

The agency Spinas Civil Voices and The Salvation Army want to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest. Hitmill produced the song.

After Swiss artists such as DJ Bobo, Lovebugs, Anna Rossinelli and Sinplus have enjoyed modest success in recent years, this year probably Switzerland's best-known musicians are applying to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest: the Salvation Army.

There is a good reason why the Salvation Army does not sound like the Salvation Army we know from singing carols together during Advent. Because the song with which the Salvation Army is competing at the ESC was written by Roman Camenzind's Hitmill.

Martin Künzi, project manager from the Salvation Army: "In the beginning, it was all just a crazy idea from our advertising agency Spinas Civil Voices. But then the idea found more and more enthusiastic supporters within the Salvation Army and when the agency finally managed to win Hitmill as producer for the ESC song, we agreed: we have to dare this experiment."

The six Salvation Army musicians who would like to compete in Malmö have been chosen through an internal casting process, the agency writes in a statement. They are all members of the Salvation Army and are enthusiastic musicians in their spare time. The youngest of the band is 23, the oldest 93 years old.

Responsible at the Salvation Army: Martin Küenzi, Gabrielle Keller (overall responsibility). Responsible at Spina's Civil Voices: Matthias Freuler, Stephan Huwiler (creation), Corinne Bucher (consulting), Reinhard Kronenberg (social media manager), Lorenz Spinas (overall responsibility), Georg Schlunegger (producer Hitmill), Max Emmenegger (director music video), Dobias Dengler, Tom Malecha (camera).

Syndicom: Diversity of opinion in Ticino at risk

The events surrounding the merger of *Giornale del Popolo* and *Corriere del Ticino* have drawn criticism from the Media and Communications Union. It argues that diversity of opinion in Ticino is at risk. Working conditions for media professionals there are already difficult.

What the editors of "Giornale del Popolo" and "Corriere del Ticino" had to tell the staff yesterday (Werbewoche.ch reported) is a capitulation to the harsh reality of the advertising market and a consequence of the unfortunate petty war that the major publishers in Ticino have been waging since the launch of the free newspaper 20 Minuten, Syndicom said in a press release on Thursday.

The logistical merger of the external newsrooms of the Giornale and Corriere and the collaboration between the business and sports editorial teams, which will be introduced from 2013, is intended to ensure the continuation of the Giornale del Popolo. However, this is primarily a concentration process that threatens the diversity of information and opinions.

In the press release, Syndicom demands that the collective labor agreement from 2004 be adhered to, especially as all Ticino publishers have always promised to continue to respect the agreement once it expires. Where close cooperation between the editorial offices of Corriere and Giornale is planned, the journalists concerned must be consulted and involved in the planning before implementation. The publishers should also be reminded that the editorial guidelines are an integral part of the employment contracts, the press release continued. In addition, the express consent of each individual journalist is required if their articles are to be published in other titles.

It only makes sense to defend the diversity of the press if the working conditions of the people who guarantee it with their daily work in the editorial offices are protected at the same time. Syndicom is calling for the restoration of clear framework conditions for the entire profession and currently in Ticino, so that the publishing and advertising petty war is no longer fought at the expense of the employees. The union is once again calling on Timedia to enter into dialog with the social partners. It is high time to start negotiations on a collective labor agreement that enables high-quality information work.

Corriere del Ticino helps Giornale del Popolo

The Ticino daily newspaper *Giornale del Popolo* is struggling with declining advertising revenue. Closer cooperation with *Corriere del Ticino* is intended to ensure its survival.

The decline in advertising revenues in the print sector is particularly pronounced in Italian-speaking Switzerland, according to a press release from the two newspapers. The launch of 20 Minutes by Tamedia in September 2011, for example, had a negative impact, while the advertising marketer Tretop Ticino, which combines the three newspapers Corriere del Ticino, La Regione Ticino and Giornale del Popolo, suffered a 40 percent drop in revenue. The smallest of the three newspapers, Giornale del Popolo, was hit particularly hard. The independent, Catholic daily newspaper has been in existence for 86 years and is an asset to the media landscape of Italian-speaking Switzerland. A new strategy has been adopted to ensure its continued existence.

Closer logistical cooperation with the daily newspaper Corriere del Ticino should help. The latter already holds a stake in Giornale del Popolo via the Timedia Group. Giornale del Popolo will retain its editorial independence, but costs are to be reduced by exploiting synergies. From January 2013, the collaboration with Corriere del Ticino will be strengthened. Parts of the editorial teams will be merged and the systems standardized. This should enable not only logistical but also editorial synergies to be exploited. According to the press release, however, it will be ensured that journalistic autonomy remains intact. The editor-in-chief of Giornale del Popolo will also continue to be appointed by the Bishop of Lugano. The diocese of Lugano holds 51 percent of the title.

Although Giornale del Popolo says that job cuts are necessary, it is trying to achieve the targeted reduction through natural fluctuation: Those leaving due to retirement or job changes would no longer be replaced.
