Radio 24 celebrates Walter Scheibli's 80th birthday

On Sunday, October 14, the legendary sports reporter Walter Scheibli will be 80 years old. Reason enough for Radio 24 to celebrate the likeable reporter all week long.

The highlights of Scheibli's radio career can be heard this week, as Radio 24 writes in a press release. Fans, the field hockey world and the Scheibli family congratulate the likeable reporter - and of course Walter Scheibli himself tells the best anecdotes from his life as Zurich's most popular sports reporter.

Walter Senior Scheibli has been broadcasting ZSC Lions games for Radio 24 since the 1982/83 season. The Zurich NLA club is now dedicating its home game against Biel next Sunday to the Radio 24 reporter. The commentator will be 80 years old on that very day. This birthday will be celebrated in the Hallenstadion with thousands of ZSC fans. The team will play in the game at 3:45 p.m. wearing retro jerseys from the 1982/83 season, when Scheibli and ZSC first came together. Radio 24 will be there live.

Runway West: Targeting young women for Twinings

With two new TV sponsorship spots, the Zurich-based agency Startbahnwest is giving Twinings' fruit and wellness teas a fresh look.

The aim of the TV presence is to increase awareness of the new fruit and feel-good teas among the target group of younger women and to acquire new customers, the agency said in a statement. The visual concept of the commercials dramatizes the product performance through an extreme food appeal that stylizes the moment of enjoyment in a sensual way. This creates a symbiosis between the ingredients of the fruit and wellness teas and the tea water. The ingredients of the teas, herbs and fruits, are surrounded by a hot jet of water. They blossom in the water and become part of a gracefully beautiful underwater world. The product experience staged in this way is thus independent of people, place and time.

The two commercials can be seen from October 15, 2012 as sponsorship spots for the shows "Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten", "Alles was zählt", "Der Sat 1 Film Film", "The Voice of Germany" and "2 Broke Girls" on various channels, as well as on television in western Switzerland.

Students condemn the Weltwoche

The Sociology Department and the Student Council (Stura) at the University of Zurich condemn the attacks on several professors at various Swiss universities. Last Thursday’s edition of *Die Weltwoche* had accused them of heresy and warned against them.

The Stura is "disconcerted" that professors are being pilloried and that "in two sentences their life's work is declared null and void," according to the statement published on Monday. A discussion about the "difficult balancing act between personal attitude and neutral research" is to be welcomed. But it is not acceptable to mix politics, personality and science "into a nasty brew".

In an open letter, the Sociology Association recalls that freedom of science and research is enshrined in the Federal Constitution and in the UN Human Rights Covenant of 1966 as an independent fundamental and human right, and this "for good reason". He added that the professional association is also turning to the Swiss Press Council in this matter. Both bodies encourage students to continue attending lectures according to their own interests. In doing so, they should form their own opinion about the research and thoughts of the professors under attack. (SDA)

CS2: Viral online campaign for Cash.ch

On behalf of Cash Zweiplus, CS2 implemented a viral campaign for Cash.ch in the form of an online quiz. The goal is to establish Cash.ch as a financial services provider and online banking platform.

The aim is to re-establish the Cash.ch website as a financial services provider and online banking platform among visitors, to increase the popularity and awareness of the brand and, of course, to generate new customers through the viral effect. The promotion will run until November 18, 2012, according to a press release. TheCash online quiz is based on the gameplay of well-known TV quiz shows, with six questions (randomly selected from a total of 48) relating to the world of finance. There are four answers to each question. However, only one of them is correct. Two types of jokers, such as the "50:50 joker", can help you find the correct answer. If the "cash joker" is selected, a link is created to the corresponding page on the Cash website where the correct answer can be found. This generates more traffic to the banking section and thus automatically draws attention to the new and expanded pillar of Cash, the Swiss financial center with objective financial information and independent banking services on one platform.

Cash editors can intervene independently in the platform and edit questions and answers. To meet the viral objectives, a friend-invite function and social media components for Facebook and Twitter have been integrated.

Responsible at Cash Zweiplus: André Michel (COO), Urban Scherrer (CTO), Silvan Franchetto (Head of Marketing). Responsible at CS2: Serge Barsotti (consulting, realization), Benoît Largeau (engineering), Roman Stalder (design).

Blochers want to buy Basler Zeitung real estate

Christoph Blocher and his daughter Rahel want to buy the editorial offices of the Basler Zeitung as well as the publishing and printing building for up to 65 million Swiss francs. For this purpose, they have founded the company Robestate, as the newspaper Der Sonntag published online on Monday.

In addition to the article, Sonntag also published the entry in the Basel-Stadt commercial register of Robestate on October 3: At the time of its founding, Robestate had 10 million francs in fully paid-up equity capital; its president is Christoph Blocher. It is domiciled in Basel with the lawyer Karl Schweizer, SVP councillor in Riehen BS. According to the notification to the commercial register, Robestate intends to take over two properties: the parts of the representative building with the editorial office at Aeschenplatz belonging to the Basler Zeitung (Baz) and the printing and publishing complex at Hochbergerstrasse 15 and 17. The mortgages are not to be taken over; the price is based on an estimate by Credit Suisse. The Basler Zeitung is in economic difficulties - because of problems typical of the industry such as Internet competition, but also because of its own decisions. The newspaper and printing plant belong to Baz-Holding, which in turn is part of Medien-Vielfalt Holding under Tito Tettamanti (53.6 percent of the voting rights).

Reduce debt burden

As Baz Board Chairman Filippo Leutenegger told the news agency sda on Monday, the real estate deal with Blocher is planned but not yet finalized. In particular, procedural and tax issues still need to be clarified; no date has been set. For Baz, this real estate sale would be "a great relief". The buildings account for a large part of the debts; for example, an entire floor of the publishing building is currently empty. Former Federal Councilor Blocher was only a buyer; his involvement in Baz companies was not intended with this deal, Leutenegger continued. In May, the Basel newspaper group had reported a consolidated loss of eight million francs on sales of 203.8 million francs. The loss was explained by a provision for the pension fund; the operating result had been balanced in 2011.

Blocher fears and loss of confidence

The Hagemann publishing family had sold the struggling newspaper and printing group to Tito Tettamanti in February 2010, with lawyer Martin Wagner acting as the new publisher. Since the latter appointed Blocher biographer Markus Somm as editor-in-chief of Baz in August 2010, SVP patron Blocher is suspected of being the string puller. In November 2010, Tettamanti sold the company to the former Crossair patron Moritz Suter. A good year later, Suter gave up in frustration and returned his shares to Rahel Blocher - in the process, Blocher's co-ownership became public knowledge. Rahel Blocher sold on to Tito Tettamanti's holding company in the same month. SVP strategist and billionaire Christoph Blocher appeared as a financier for the first time in this deal, with a deficit guarantee. Blocher explained in the Sonntagszeitung at the time that he had kept the Baz as one of the last independent newspapers in the country, but had wanted to spare it anti-Blocher reflexes with discretion. That didn't work out. Somm's SVP-affiliated line, as well as the turmoil over veiled ownership and Blocher influence, has cost the paper thousands of subscribers. In addition, new competition has emerged since then with the Tageswoche newspaper; moreover, the Basellandschaftliche Zeitung and its sister Sonntag successively expanded their presence. (SDA)

Hofer: Pension provision with the Berner Kantonalbank

The Berner Kantonalbank wants to use a pension promotion campaign to reach not only its core target audience but also a younger audience. Hofer Kommunikation has created a campaign concept for this purpose.

According to a press release, the aim is also to appeal to young people who have not yet given much thought to pension planning. With a catchy theme, both customers and customer advisors should find access to the topic.

Hofer Kommunikation developed an image with the key message: pension provision is not something that can be done quickly. It has to be carefully planned. The campaign can currently be seen in all BEKB branches. Advertisements, mailings, POS posters, Internet banners and an online competition were implemented.

BSW: Results of survey and ranking published

After a surprisingly good 2011, the BSW agencies are looking forward to a subdued 2012. Despite economic forecasts that are difficult to assess, the industry remains positive for 2013. This is shown by a survey conducted by the association.

2012 will be a mixed year for the leading Swiss agencies. According to a survey conducted in September, 60 percent of BSW advertising and communications agencies will end the 2012 financial year with a slight increase in fee income of up to 4 percent. This is in line with the expectations expressed by the majority of agency heads a year ago. Media agencies are also expecting an increase in income compared to the previous year. Profit expectations, on the other hand, are restrained. Around two thirds of all agencies expect another decline in EBIT compared to 2011, while only one third of all agencies expect to maintain or improve on their 2011 results.

The pressure on agencies is increasing

The main reasons for the erosion of margins are the high personnel and technical investments in online skills, the still tight personnel market (on average 65 percent of total fee income is spent on personnel costs) and the increasing demands from clients for additional services for which they do not wish to receive additional compensation.

The requirements of clients are increasing

The professional requirements for advertising, media and communications agencies have also increased. In addition to the basic expertise in digital media that is required by all clients, 84% (previous year: 74%) of agencies report an increased demand for cross-media campaigns and 68% (previous year: 60%) for more strategic input. The demand for social media campaigns, on the other hand, appears to be declining somewhat, at 70% (previous year: 91%).

The framework conditions for clients are getting worse for agencies. The high quality of advice and service desired by clients requires careful resource planning, which is becoming increasingly difficult. Decisions on the client side are being made at ever shorter notice and are increasingly project-related. Budgets change more frequently 83 percent (previous year 77 percent), strategies change more quickly, 71 percent (previous year 65 percent) and the quality of agency briefings is declining. This means that the majority of advertising clients are under intense pressure. Agencies have identified a great need for training here.

BSW agencies take on the digital challenge

For BSW Leading Swiss Agencies, there is no question that the BSW agencies will also master these challenges. Nevertheless, it is appealing to clients to increasingly return to partnership-based and professional cooperation and to tackle their own homework. This means better groundwork, better planning and better briefings. Today, BSW agencies advise and support their clients across all disciplines in all areas of marketing communication, thus meeting the demand for total communication solutions. 60 percent of advertising, media and communications agencies have therefore invested heavily in digital training and further education. 83 percent of advertising and communication agencies have already hired specialists and are developing online solutions in-house and integrated. Creation and development teams increasingly consist of text / art direction / online specialists. 100 percent of media agencies and 45 percent of advertising and communications agencies have also entered into partnerships with specialized agencies.

Facebook: Many companies do not take advantage of opportunities

The first Linkup event on social media took place in Chur. The highlight was a presentation by Facebook expert Thomas Hutter. He highlighted the ways Facebook can be used in businesses, but emphasized that many companies do not take advantage of them.

According to a press release, star guest Thomas Hutter is one of the biggest Facebook experts in the German-speaking world. In his presentation, he commented on the status quo of Facebook, which has recently had over one billion users worldwide and will soon have three million users in Switzerland. According to Hutter, Facebook should therefore not be described as hype, but should be taken seriously. However, many companies in Switzerland have not recognized this and are missing out on many opportunities. According to Hutter, companies in Switzerland still have little know-how in the area of Facebook. In addition, there is a shift in power away from the provider towards the consumer. Media behavior has therefore changed fundamentally today. These changes mean new challenges for corporate communications. According to Hutter, there is no way around the use of Facebook in companies in order to keep pace.

Companies must take action

Around 200 guests accepted the invitation to the first Linkup event. They received the answer to the question of whether companies should do something about social media. Matthias Schneider, Product Manager at Newmedia, was able to answer this question with a yes in his presentation: "It's not a question of whether you should do social media marketing, but whether you want to do optimal marketing in today's environment with new media behavior," explained Schneider. From his point of view, it is therefore obvious to use the new social media tools in the company.
The Linkup event on October 5 is the prelude to a series of events. The web agency Südostschweiz Newmedia AG is creating a platform for companies, organizations and associations to discuss Internet-related topics and network with experts. The site Linkup-event.ch provides information on the topics and dates of upcoming events. If you don't want to miss anything, you can subscribe to the free newsletter on the website.

Last but not least: Let it Reyn

As is well known, Lana Del Rey models for H&M. Her bored, emotionless expression has sparked the latest internet phenomenon: the «Your Face Del Rey» movement.

Singer Lana Del Rey ("Videogames") is the face of the current H&M campaign. In TV commercials she sings a cover version of "Blue Velvet", on posters she looks seemingly bored and expressionless out of the Swedish wash. The campaign is obviously not only annoying Michèle Binswanger, who a few days ago made fun of the "silicone-padded duckbill" ("Lana Del Rey is annoying for H&M"). Some Facebook users also saw a need for action and called for "Your Face Del Rey" into being. People from all over the world are invited to imitate and upload the Del Rey facial expression. And many of them do. Not just women - men, dogs and cats are also taking part in the search for the perfect Lana look. (hae)

New online news service Liberatv

Since Monday, the Ticino media landscape has gained a new online news service. Three journalists, including former TeleTicino director Marco Bazzi, founded the Italian-language web portal Liberatv.ch.

Liberatv.ch will offer news and background information from Ticino as well as news from Switzerland and the world. Contributions in the form of texts and videos are planned.

Liberatv.ch distinguishes itself from the numerous online, print and TV competitors in Ticino through its independence, explains Marco Bazzi on the website. The journalists are not tied to any publishing group. Numerous Ticino bloggers also have their say. They are financed by advertising revenue. Bazzi left the private broadcaster Tele Ticino in June after 18 years. Andrea Leoni, editor-in-chief of the information department, also left with him. He is also involved in the new web project.
