Net-Metrix: The small difference online

Men and women don't just behave differently offline; a slight difference can also be seen in their use of the Internet, as shown by the online study Net-Metrix-Profile 2012-2.

Almost 90% of Internet-using men in Switzerland surf the Internet daily or almost daily and are therefore "heavy users". For women, this figure is significantly lower at 73 percent. While there are hardly any gender differences in Internet use at home (around 98% are online), the Net-Metrix figures show a different picture for Internet use at work: almost 70% of working men access the web in the office. Only 53% of female employees are online at work.

There are also some differences in subject interests: While men are particularly interested in technology & research, computer topics or politics on the Internet, women are more likely to search online for articles on health & nutrition, music or faraway countries and travel.

This naturally also has an effect on which websites men and women prefer: of the websites with the highest reach, Blick Online, 20min.ch, Tagesanzeiger.ch and Sf.tv are used more than average by men. Women, on the other hand, surf disproportionately on Search.ch, Local.ch, Homegate.ch and the offerings of Microsoft Advertising Switzerland (Hotmail, MSN). There are hardly any gender differences in the use of Bluewin and Doodle.ch.

Y&R: Campaign launched for Migros Sélection

Y&R Group Switzerland has developed a new campaign for Migros Sélection. The tagline is: You can argue about how it’s prepared, but not about the quality.

The TV commercials take place where the advertised products come from: in France, Ireland and Italy, according to a statement. You see people who are very familiar with the preparation of the products, if it weren't for the critical friend or mom who supposedly know even better. And already passionate discussions arise in the respective original language: When does a Brie have the correct serving temperature? Does Aceto di Modena go well with desserts? Should Irish beef be seasoned before or after roasting? The commercials leave it open as to who is right and refer to the new Website by Sélection, which is the centerpiece of the campaign.

On the site, the questions from the TV spots are discussed further by nine experts and it should quickly become clear: even among experts, people don't always agree. The participating experts include Matterhorn innkeeper Vrony Cotting-Julen, Michelin-starred chef Thuri Maag and food scout and book author Dominik Flammer. In addition, there are tips, recipes and background information on the website. And visitors are also involved: they can have their say, ask the experts questions, upload their own recipes, and rate and comment on the Sélection products.

Further questions about the preparation of selected Sélection products are distributed via banners as well as advertisements, brochures and POS measures, which lead directly to the respective expert clips via QR code. The campaign, which aims to make Sélection products more of a topic in everyday life, is now in use.

Last but not least: The last one turns off the light

An impressive picture graces the cover of the current issue of New York Magazine. Subject: Big lights out with Sandy.

The image of the photographer Iwan Baan shows helpless Manhattan after the ravages of Hurricane Sandy. The boundaries of New York's power supply seem to be pretty divisive. A power outage worthy of the name. (hae)

iProspect: Study on mobile marketing strategies

iProspect has published the study «2012 Mobile Landscape: Western Europe.» The study highlights key trends in the adoption and use of smartphones and tablet PCs, as well as priorities regarding their use for advertising.

The data conveys a foundation for mobile strategies, their execution and optimization through integration of search engine marketing, display deployment and location-based services, according to the release. In collaboration with TNS Global, iProspect studied the mobile and connected device market in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK.

"The mobile market in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) is huge," said Ian Carrington, director of mobile, Google EMEA. "In the last 12 months, we have reached a stage where advertisers understand that they need to build and integrate their mobile strategy. However, there is still a long way to go. Companies must first align their websites with mobile requirements and create engaging mobile formats. They also need to fully understand the impact of mobile in directing users to web stores, where they can make a purchase decision after comparing products using mobile. The days of debating the value of mobile are well and truly over. Advertisers now know without a doubt that mobile is the next generation of the Internet."

The key messages of the study are:

Originally referred to as the "third screen" (after the TV and the PC), mobile devices are quickly becoming the "first screen". In many markets, mobile penetration has reached critical mass. In 2011, there were 835 million smartphone users and 5.6 billion cell phone users.

Companies with a strong mobile presence have decisive Competitive advantages over their non-mobile competitors. 61 percent of customers who visit a website that is not geared to mobile requirements are very likely to go to a competitor's website.

For consumers, the smartphone is their first choice for completing personal tasks during work hours - which means that brands have a higher mobile "airtime have than originally thought. 64 percent of respondents feel that they are "constantly connected to the Internet.

Compared to PCs, mobile has the best performance for all advertising formats. Higher involvement and conversion rates on. Around four out of ten consumers who clicked on a normal link bought at least one product or service via their smartphone as a result of this click in the past twelve months.

The Tablet market is characterized by a growing and highly engaged target group. Tablet PC owners expect to spend 33 to 52 percent more time with their tablet PCs. Ten to 21 percent of non-owners expect to spend time on tablet use in the coming year, indicating an intention to buy.

The study is designed to help digital marketers understand how consumers use mobile and how to make smart mobile decisions. "Our clients' need to be very close to what consumers are doing - no matter the time or place - was the starting point for the EBook and the market-specific research that underpins it," said Misty Locke, Global Chief Marketing & Performance Officer at iProspect. "With mobile penetration in Western Europe at over 50 percent, we wanted to provide concrete local insights that, paired with practical applications for each brand, ensure a solid mobile strategy to create stronger engagement with their mobile consumers."

This study was conducted in collaboration with TNS Nipo and represents an analysis of existing research findings and primary statistical surveys. The Digital Life (based on interviews with more than 72'000 people in 60 countries) and Mobile Life (based on 34'000 surveys of mobile users in over 43 countries) studies formed the basis for further analyses. iProspect conducted online surveys of more than 2,600 people in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK. All respondents were smartphone users who use the mobile Internet and are between 16 and 60 years old. The study can be downloaded from the PDF format downloaded be

These Councellors supported the young leaders by facilitating discussions on key global issues and helping the young participants to express their demands for change. Over 1200 young delegates from 171 countries, including 26 representatives from Switzerland, met at the Kongresshaus.

The forum took place from October 18 to 22 in Pittsburgh. Once again, 1200 young delegates from 182 countries met with influential personalities. In addition to the experienced counselors, Kofi Annan, Jack Dorsey (Twitter founder), Pete Cashmore (founder of Mashable) and Anthony Jenkins (CEO of Barclays) also took part. A highlight was the opening of the forum by former President Bill Clinton, who did not give a speech but answered questions from young delegates and shared his views on the biggest challenges facing the world today. The four-day event was concluded by Kofi Annan, who called the forum "almost another UN, but with stronger voices and much younger". Frank Bodin is delighted with the lasting success and that there were also delegates from Switzerland who were supported by well-known companies.
