Ruf Lanz: Swiss Smile instead of hiding teeth

Ruf Lanz has created a branding campaign for the Swiss Smile dental centers. Thanks to visits to the dentist, no one should ever have to hide their teeth again.

After the tailor-made appearance at the Elite Model Look competition (Werbewoche.ch reported), Ruf Lanz now wants to make Swiss Smile the talk of the town with an image campaign, according to a press release. The message: "So that no one has to hide their teeth anymore: Swiss Smile." The realization: men who let their moustaches grow all the way over their lips. Women who blow-dry their hair conspicuously inward. And girls who bashfully tie their braids in front of their mouths.

The subjects can be seen full-page in Tages-Anzeiger, 20 Minuten and Bilanz, as well as on billboards and in online implementations.

Responsible at Ruf Lanz: Markus Ruf, Danielle Lanz (creative direction), Isabelle Hauser (art direction), Maren Beck (text), Dave Schellenberg (graphics), Sebastian Durband (consulting management), Sabrina Luck (consulting). Surseer Woche: Inge Lichtsteiner becomes publishing director

Inge Lichtsteiner will take over as head of the Surseer Woche publishing house in mid-November. The board of directors elected her to succeed Georges Achermann.

Financial management, marketing, team management, personnel administration or property management: Inge Lichtsteiner from Egolzwil is "well versed" in these and many other fields of activity of a female entrepreneur, according to the press release. The Board of Directors of Surseer Woche is delighted to have two women at the helm of the media company in the form of Publishing Director Inge Lichtsteiner and Editorial Director Andrea Willimann.

Professional in the management of an SME

The 52-year-old Inge Lichtsteiner is a career changer in the publishing industry. However, she brings a commercial track record and entrepreneurial experience to the new position, according to the press release. Having grown up in Egolzwil, she trained in gymnastics after completing her basic commercial training and working in the credit department of a bank and in financial management at a large company. In 1986, she founded the gymnastics studio Gymstreet in Sursee, which she ran as a sole trader for twelve years. In 1998, this was transferred to TC Training Center Innerschweiz, where she was co-owner and a member of the management team. The next step followed in 2009: Migros took over TC, which changed its name to One Training Center in 2010. Inge Lichtsteiner remained a member of the management team.

However, the new publishing director of Surseer Woche is not only well connected as an entrepreneur in the Sursee region, but also politically: the Egolzwil native has been a member of the cantonal council for the CVP in the Willisau constituency since 2009. Since this year, the mother of two grown-up daughters has also been working towards an Executive Master's in Business Administration at the Lucerne School of Business.

Entry on November 19

On November 19, Inge Lichtsteiner takes up her position at Surseer Woche. The regional media company Surseer Woche, based in Sursee, celebrated its 20th anniversary in October. It publishes the newspapers Surseer Woche and Trienger Woche together with their Allmedia services.

"We have costs under control and will not make a loss"

Starting in 2013, Basler Zeitung Medien (BZM) is stepping up its involvement with Presse TV (PTV). Werbewoche spoke with Chairman of the Board Filippo Leutenegger about the reasons for this TV expansion, about the costs and about advertising law pitfalls.

Werbewoche.ch: BZM doubles its shareholding in PTV to 20 percent and also wants to make a follow-up show for Gesundheit Sprechstunde. Why this commitment?
Filippo Leutenegger: We want to expand the topic of health in the Baz, and it is interesting from a journalistic point of view to implement this in the newspaper and at the same time with a health program. By doubling our share, we are picking up where we left off about twelve years ago: At that time, BZM already held 20 percent of PTV, but then ceded half to Jean Frey Verlag, which I represented as CEO at the time.

How will the Baz strengthen editorial services on health?
The desire to do so also came from Editor-in-Chief Markus Somm. How this is then implemented in terms of journalism is his responsibility. But one thing is clear: If we focus more on health in our journalism, we will also be closer to Basel.

Because of the pharmaceutical industry in the region?
No, quite simply because health is also a big issue in Basel.

What will the show be called in the future, who is responsible for it and who will produce it?
It is called "Health Today. And Jeanne Fürst, who already edits and presents the program, is responsible. The experienced director and producer Helmuth Heim is responsible for production.

Is there any change in the concept and sponsors?
No, we are continuing the successful concept and the existing sponsors are staying on board. That is very pleasing

Ringier has repeatedly had legal problems with "Gesundheit Sprechstunde" due to violations of advertising guidelines. This seems to be particularly sensitive in the health sector. What are you doing about it?
The past was indeed unpleasant in this respect. But if the journalistic work is done cleanly, I have no fear of having more problems than with other magazine forms.

Ringier has exited PTV for reasons of economy: The PTV commitment has been "loss-making for a long time," it said in May. BaZ also has to make savings: It is currently cutting 25 jobs in the publishing house and reducing photographers' fees. Doesn't the expansion of the hardly lucrative PTV engagement seem a bit out of place?
No. Why? We have the costs under control and will not make a loss. All in all, it's a publicity boost that won't put any additional financial strain on us. We have sponsors and we will receive the same compensation as before from PTV. We also have experience with TV and with broadcast budgets.

Radio Zürisee with new editor

Simon Vogel is joining the editorial team at Radio Zürisee. The 28-year-old from Uster in the canton of Zurich will start his new position early next year.

Simon Vogel first gained a foothold in the media as an industry newcomer in the summer of 2012 and is currently completing a six-month internship in the editorial department of Radio Zürisee, according to a statement. Based on his performance and development, Radio Zürisee's editors-in-chief have decided to make him a permanent employee as of January 1, 2013. Simon Vogel will be deployed primarily as a reporter, covering media conferences, contributing to editorial series and producing researched features. He spent his childhood and youth in Wädenswil on Lake Zurich. Today, Simon Vogel lives in Uster in the Zurich Oberland. In his free time, he plays the drums passionately and at a professional level.

Last but not least: Who has the longest distance?

On Monday, the online study «Net-Metrix-Profile 2012-2» was published. The figures leave plenty of room for interpretation.

The study shows, for example, that men love news sites such as Blick.ch and 20min.ch, while women are more attracted to search services such as Search.ch, Local.ch and Homegate.ch (Werbewoche.ch reported). It's a prankster who draws gender-related conclusions from this. But someone has to deal with the really relevant issues ("My ladyboy is not allowed in Switzerland", "Our daddy is starving us!", "We are Germans: we will be deported"), while the fairer sex are preoccupied with trivialities such as finding accommodation and restaurants.

Blick am Abend interpreted the study further and noted in its Monday edition: "Blick.ch remains No. 1". The portal is "by far the most visited Internet news portal in German-speaking Switzerland".

blick-am-abend-net-metrix
Picture: Blick am Abend, November 5, 2012

"Over 1.5 million users surf Blick.ch every month." That doesn't just sound impressive, it actually is. Almost a little frightening, because according to the study, these are "unique users", i.e. not page views or similar kindergarten. More than one in five people in Switzerland visit Blick.ch at least once a month - babies and German deportation candidates included. A free newspaper that reports this fact - you can feel sorry for Kurt Imhof!

Even more impressive is the fact that another "Internet news portal" tops this. Namely 20min.ch. According to the study, the site not only recorded 30,000 more monthly visitors, but also grew twice as much as Blick.ch compared to the previous year. The latter also applies in terms of daily and weekly reach, even if the Ringier portal is (still?) ahead.

Unfortunately, Werbewoche.ch cannot keep up. But experience shows that we reach our target group - media professionals and advertisers - quite well. Of course, this is not Allusion be. (hae)

Axel Springer: New Editorial Director Business Network

The business network of Axel Springer Switzerland is being further strengthened. As of January 1, 2013 Stefan Eiselin will take over the overall management of the network of Handelszeitung.ch, Bilanz.ch and Finanzen.ch.

The 45-year-old Stefan Eiselin will be the new editorial director of the business network and will be responsible for the strategic and journalistic management of the online network. With his many years of experience as a business and online journalist, he will further sharpen the content profile of Handelszeitung.ch, Bilanz.ch and Finanzen.ch and further develop the websites, according to the statement. At the same time, as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Handelszeitung, Stefan Eiselin will be responsible for closer integration of the digital offering of Axel Springer Schweiz's business media with the individual print products.

Volker Strohm will simultaneously assume responsibility for the technical and commercial development of the websites as well as for the partner projects of the business network as Deputy Editorial Director and in cooperation with Product Management, Sales and Marketing. In addition, the 45-year-old will coordinate, expand and further develop the social media activities.

Press TV: Baz inherits Ringier's health show

Many changes at Presse TV (PTV): Starting in 2013, the Baz will produce a follow-up program to «Gesundheit Sprechstunde,» the PTV shareholder base will shrink, and Fibo Deutsch will leave the publisher-owned television network. In addition, SRF is launching a replacement for Ringier’s «Motorshow TCS.».

Following Ringier's exit from the publisher's television station PresseTV (PTV), Basler Zeitung Medien (BZM) will take on more responsibility. Firstly, it is doubling its stake from 10 percent today to 20 percent, and it is also continuing the program "Gesundheit Sprechstunde" under a new name, but with the same concept (see interview with BZM CEO Filippo Leutenegger). The editorial team will also remain largely unchanged: The previous editor-in-chief Regula Käch is leaving the team and presenter and doctor Jeanne Fürst is taking over.

However, since Ringier held 30 percent of the shares in Publisher TV, 20 percent will go back to PTV: They are available in case another publisher wants to get involved. At present, AZ Medien seems to be the primary candidate: It had shown interest earlier, all the more so as it has excess studio capacity with its local TVs in Zurich, Aargau and Bern. In response to an inquiry from Werbewoche, Claudia Bossert, Managing Director TV at AZ Medien, did say that "PTV has not yet received any requests to participate." "But we are still open to meaningful collaborations," she added. According to reports, however, initial talks are already scheduled for the next few days.

SRF has to fill two program gaps

Ringier is leaving gaps not only in the shareholder base, but also in the programs: "Cash TV" and "Motor Show TCS" are being dropped without replacement, leaving two nearly half-hour gaps in SF2 programming from 2013: Saturdays at 20:30 and Sundays at 22:05. "The slot for "Cash-TV" will go to a new format, the content of which has not yet been decided, while that of "Motorshow" will be retained for a format on the subject of cars," SRF spokesman Jonathan Engmann announced in response to an inquiry. Both formats will be run under SRF's responsibility in the future, and negotiations with production companies are already underway for the car format.

A third Ringier contribution, the "Sonntagsblick-Standpunkt", will also be cancelled without replacement, but because the other three Standpunkt providers NZZ, Basler Zeitung and Bilanz will step into the breach and run a three-week instead of a four-week rotation in future, there will be no gaps here.

The cancellation of "Cash TV" and "Motorshow TCS" means that PTV will only produce 6500 broadcast minutes per year for SRF from 2013. Previously, it was 8500 broadcast minutes per year, with the repeats even more than double. The reduction will also reduce the compensation PTV receives from SRF: While it used to be CHF 5 million per year, it will probably be less than CHF 4 million in the future.

Markus Spillmann to become Chairman of the Board of Directors

There are also weighty personnel changes at PTV. Some of them have already been quietly initiated in recent weeks: For example, the previous Chairman of the Board Wolfgang Frei, who was Head of New Media at NZZ, recently resigned due to retirement. Martin Lutz (73), a media lawyer who represents DTCP, an association of German publishers, at PTV, was elected as his successor. However, he is now stepping down at the end of the year - for reasons of age, according to a communiqué. PTV shareholders have now recently decided to propose NZZ editor-in-chief Markus Spillmann as the new president and BaZ publisher Filippo Leutenegger as vice president. An extraordinary general meeting is to be held at the end of November.

Fibo German steps down a year early

The most important personnel change, however, is at the operational level: 72-year-old Ringier man Fibo Deutsch, who has led PTV's fortunes from the beginning, will hand over the management already at the end of the year. This is surprising, as it was originally said that Deutsch would negotiate a new contract with SRF starting in 2014. Now his successor will do it. Who this will be is still open. The office will be reorganized, the communiqué simply said. But one thing is certain: Doris Maeso, Deutsch's right-hand woman, will remain loyal to PTV.

Since Ringier is also discontinuing its own TV production under the name Ringier TV, there will also be changes at this level: The Standpunkt programs and the BZM health program will now be produced by Content Park in Schlieren, the company that emerged from Lobster TV and belonged to Christoph Blocher's financing company Robinvest until mid-2010. Content Park has experience in producing TV programs and has a larger studio than Ringier TV. Incidentally, PTV will also move its headquarters from Ringier's main building on Dufourstrasse to Schlieren.

Cooperation for 17 years

PTV was founded in 1995 by NZZ, Ringier and DCTP. The Basler Zeitung joined in the same year, and later Jean Frey AG, which sold its share to Axel Springer Schweiz in 2007. From the outset, the aim was to broadcast contributions from private suppliers in program windows of Swiss television - in the knowledge that it would be virtually impossible for publishers to finance their own language-regional TV program in competition with SRG.

But the publishers did not always feel comfortable under SF's wing. In the Peter Schellenberg era, they were merely tolerated, and under Ingrid Deltenre, they even saw themselves as an "unloved louse in SRG's fur" (quote from Deutsch). The relationship only eased with the 2008 contract: Since then, PTV has felt taken seriously as a partner, and thanks to joint slot planning, the PTV broadcasts again achieved better ratings. In the first half of 2012, for example, "Gesundheit Sprechstunde" achieved an average market share of 19.7 percent, "NZZ Format" 15.3 percent, "Standpunkte" 7 percent, and "Motorshow," "Cash TV" and "Bekanntmachung" came in at 4 percent to 6 percent. SRG is therefore interested in cooperating with PTV even after 2013. "SRF wants to continue working with the publishers," confirms SRF spokesman Jonathan Engmann.

Webguerillas: guerrilla actions against human trafficking

The fictional artist Szuk promoted his exhibition opening with guerrilla marketing campaigns. Panini stickers featuring prostitutes sparked a major media response. The agency generated significant attention for the Stiletto Run and raised awareness of the issue of human trafficking.

Chained high-heels on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse, oversized two-ring banners with the likeness of Helvetia in a miniskirt, and - in keeping with the European Football Championship - Panini pictures with prostitutes on them. Last June, people in Zurich were puzzled by these guerrilla actions. All traces led to the Hungarian artist Szuk, who invited on his website to a vernissage in Zurich.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvu1uDniW6c

Sad art that lives

The mysterious Hungarian had not stirred the advertising drum in vain. According to the agency, more than 200 visitors wanted to know who Szuk really is and what he wants to show the public. And since the vernissage one must define living art probably differently. On pedestals, in dim light, Szuk staged his art objects: chained women, made over and with numbers like prisoners. And they are prisoners - Szuk wants to draw attention to this. Hundreds of women are also forced into prostitution in Switzerland under the worst conditions.

In the gallery that evening it was volunteers who presented themselves in skimpy dresses on high heels. A strong image that worked. It seemed almost grotesque how people discussed in front of the living art while having a Cüpli. On small signs, where in museums details of the artist and work are noted, visitors found the shocking short biography of the prostitute - and her price.

High reach without a media budget

Human trafficking is a sad reality. Fictitious, on the other hand, is the artist Szuk. Behind the guerrilla actions and the vernissage with the living artworks was the agency Webguerillas, which called for participation in the first Zurich Stiletto Run on behalf of the organization Glowbalact. Articles about the guerrilla actions and the vernissage in wide-reaching media such as Blick am Abend and Tilllate as well as numerous blog and forum articles additionally sensitized people to the issue of human trafficking.

Several hundred participants and spectators finally showed their solidarity with the women who have to sell their bodies for sex. To ensure that the proceeds of the event as well as the donations fully benefit the victims of human trafficking, the work of all participants was done on a voluntary basis.

Responsible at Glowbalact: Tabea Oppliger (President), Sonja De Iaco, Timea Keller. Responsible at Webguerillas: Conrad Malcher (Creative Director), Daniel Gremli (Concept), Norbert Rieger, Anja Schatz, Richard Wegele (Art Direction), Christian Schiller (Public Relations), Tatjana Meichtry (Consulting), Moritz Capelle (Head of Operations and Innovations), Philippe Stuker (Managing Director).

His deputy will be Peter Wälty, previously Editor-in-Chief of Newsnet. Markus Eisenhut, who previously co-managed the Tages-Anzeiger editorial team together with Res Strehle, will take over editorial management as a member of the editorial team. Michael Marti, currently deputy editor-in-chief of Newsnet, and Arthur Rutishauser, previously a member of the Tages-Anzeiger editorial team, will remain members of the editorial team. In this way, the Tages-Anzeiger aims to offer its readers high-quality information on all media channels.

Res Strehle took over as co-editor-in-chief of Switzerland's largest subscription daily newspaper in 2009. Together with Markus Eisenhut, he introduced a contemporary layout and a new newspaper architecture with four newspaper bundles. At the same time, the Tages-Anzeiger sharpened its editorial profile with a new journalistic concept and a focus on in-depth analyses, features and background reports. Before joining the Tages-Anzeiger, Res Strehle was editor-in-chief for six years from 2001 to 2007 and most recently also managing director of the magazine. He further developed the weekend supplement in journalistic terms and led it into the black for the first time in its history. Res Strehle is the author of several books and has lectured at the University of St. Gallen, the School of Social Work in Zurich and the Media Training Center (MAZ) in Lucerne.

In the press release sent out on Monday, the Board of Directors and the Management Board of Tamedia thank Andreas Dietrich, Markus Eisenhut, Michael Marti, Arthur Rutishauser, Res Strehle and Peter Wälty for their successful work and wish Res Strehle and his team continued success.
