Press Council reprimands Aargauer Zeitung

In its coverage of criminal proceedings against a lawyer, the AZ violated the duty to hear both sides. By repeatedly publishing the lawyer’s photo, the newspaper also pilloried him, the Press Council announced on Tuesday.

From January to April 2012, the Aargauer Zeitung had reported in a series of articles on the criminal proceedings against a Lenzburg lawyer for property crimes. The investigation by the Aargau public prosecutor's office had been ongoing since 2010. The Press Council - the ethics body of the Swiss media - has now partially upheld the man's complaint. With the repeated publication of the picture on its online portal, the Aargauer Zeitung had gone too far. This "disproportionately pilloried" the person.

Furthermore, the daily newspaper had not always given the accused lawyer the opportunity to comment on serious allegations in some of the published articles. The Press Council rejected the part of the complaint according to which the name of the man should not have been mentioned.(SDA)

Media Markt: The stupid are not stupid after all

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Media Markt Switzerland is launching its new advertising campaign on November 14. The slogan for the new annual campaign is: «The world belongs to the smart ones.»

With this campaign, Media Markt wants to reflect on what Media Markt is all about, according to a press release. The idea is that their customers are not so stupid as to go shopping elsewhere "when Media Markt is always bigger and cheaper everywhere". "We wanted to bring our claim back into focus and make it the centerpiece of the campaign. However, as this has already become so commonplace, we needed a disruptor to bring the slogan back to mind," explains Fabian Rauber, Head of Advertising at Media Markt. "We found this disruptor in the word "Unblöd"."

At first glance, the heroes of the five TV commercials do indeed seem a little silly. For example, you see two young men lying at anchor in a small pond with their huge motor yacht (TV commercial). Or a man attending an important meeting stark naked (TV commercial). The protagonists realize ruefully that they were pretty stupid in these actions. However, it is neither the yacht in the pond nor the missing clothes that are meant, but the consideration not to buy their electrical goods at Media Markt. With various TV commercials, flyers in the form of a newspaper, online implementations and an eye-catching advertising presence at the POS, Media Markt presents "the latest stupid offers". The campaign was produced by the Austrian advertising agency Demner, Merlicek und Bergmann.

Last but not least: Stimulus is cool

Under the slogan «It’s never been this cheap,» the German online electronics retailer Redcoon celebrates everything that’s cheap (or seems to be). Featuring women of varying degrees of fame—that’s how cheap it has to be!

Liliana Matthäus had to cancel her appearance due to "scheduling difficulties". Perhaps she had simply realized which pot Bild and Redcoon wanted to throw her into. It's the pot labeled "Caution, very cheap!". However, the makers coped well with her departure, as Loddar's ex was replaced by Gina-Lisa Lohfink. Although she was never Lothar's high school graduate wife, she was at least a contestant on "Germany's Next Topmodel". After that, she tinkered with her career with cosmetic surgery, sex videos and affairs with footballers and former (male and female) pop stars.

Only Micaela Schäfer, who has successfully mastered three things: bust size and jungle show, can keep up. Her appearances as a nude DJane, on the other hand, seem like a cultural commitment. Jordan Caver, who according to Wikipedia is "an international photo and glamor model based in California", is also involved. Ah yes, and the whole thing is complemented by the Winner of the Bild.de casting "Werbestar 2013": Sandra. She probably didn't know exactly what to expect from the winner herself:

In the end, the result was a sensitive and respectful homage to the female sex. The winners are Redcoon...and Liliana Matthäus. And the actresses' bank accounts. The latter are certainly already memorizing the sentences that their advisors have drilled into them (suggestions: "You also have to be able to laugh at yourself!", "You shouldn't take the whole thing too seriously", "The campaign should hold up a mirror to society", "I stand by my body!"). Station: Web presence for animal photographer Gilardini

The Station agency has created a website for the renowned Ticino-based wildlife photographer Daisy Gilardini. The goal is to make her photos accessible to a broader, international audience.

Daisy Gilardini is a force to be reckoned with in the world of wildlife photography. The Ticino native, who lives in Canada, has taken part in more than 40 Arctic and Antarctic expeditions and her work has been awarded the most important international prizes, including the IPA International Photography Award and BBC Photographer of the Year.

Station has taken on the task of making the Ticinese photographer's work accessible to a wider audience. As the agency writes in a press release, the pictures from the polar worlds deserve more attention. They would transport the viewer out of their everyday world and show them the origin of all existence. With the realization of a Website Station has created a platform that does justice to Gilardini's work. Simplicity and cool elegance characterize the appearance and place the photography at the center, according to Station. The aim was to create a website that does not comment or evaluate, but lets the images take effect. Thanks to the use of WordPress, Daisy Gilardini can manage the content on her own. In order to reach an international audience and generate a high level of virality, Pinterest was also integrated alongside Facebook.

Responsible on the customer side: Daisy Gilardini, Vancouver, BC, Canada (overall responsibility, photos, texts). Responsible at Station: Patman (Creative Director), Patrick Stoll (Project Management), Michel Luarasi (Design), Lukas von Blarer (Development).

BPRA: three new members

The general meeting of the Association of Public Relations Agencies of Switzerland (BPRA) has admitted three PR agencies—CR Kommunikation, Edelman Switzerland, and Life Science Communication—as new members.

CR Kommunikation develops solutions in the areas of communication and marketing. The full-service agency employs a team of 23 people at its offices in Zurich and Bern. The range of services includes: PR, marketing communications, public affairs, campaigning, employer branding as well as online communications and social media. "With its working groups on these and other relevant topics and the high quality standards it sets for its members, the BPRA offers the ideal environment for CR Kommunikation," says Patrick Marty, a member of the management team at CR Kommunikation, in a statement.

Edelman is one of the world's oldest PR agencies - the agency celebrated its 60th anniversary in summer 2012. In March 2012, Edelman acquired the Swiss agency K Comms and has since been represented under the name Edelman with offices in Zurich and in Lausanne. "Edelman has made a commitment to the Swiss market by establishing its own office," explains Alexander Fink, CEO of Edelman Switzerland. "The inclusion in the BPRA is an honor for us. In line with Edelman's claim of thought leadership, we gladly commit to actively participate in the advancement of quality thinking and innovation in our industry."

Life Science Communication (LSC) was founded in 2007 and is a consultancy for integrated communication and marketing in the field of healthcare and life sciences. The agency has twelve employees and successfully works for its clients at the interfaces between physicians and healthcare professionals, research institutions, patient and non-profit organizations. LSC is also strong in science communications and manages several offices. "With its membership in the industry association of Swiss PR agencies, the agency is now also formally committed to the industry's quality standards," says agency head Mark Bächer.

"We are very pleased to welcome CR Kommunikation, Edelman Switzerland and Life Science Communication as three more industry-recognized agencies to the BPRA," says Roman Geiser, president of the BPRA. "The BPRA seal of approval, as well as the association's quality initiative in the area of CMS certification, differentiates the leading agencies in the market from small, less transparent non-certified agencies."

BBC crisis: News chiefs leave their posts in abeyance

The crisis at the British radio and TV broadcaster BBC continues to spread: Following the resignation of Director-General George Entwistle, the broadcaster's head of news and her deputy have stepped down from their posts.

This was announced by BBC media correspondent Torin Douglas in London on Monday. Head of news Helen Boaden and her deputy Steve Mitchell have handed over their duties to colleagues until further notice. Both had been asked to resign in view of ongoing investigations into the withholding of information in the case of the deceased BBC star presenter Jimmy Savile, who is alleged to have abused hundreds of children. The program "Newsnight" is accused of withholding information about Savile. The BBC was forced to admit in October that Savile had abused children. Savile died last year, but had apparently been covered up by the BBC until after his death.

BBC boss George Entwistle had already resigned on Saturday evening. This was triggered by an inaccurate report about another abuse scandal. The broadcaster had aired a program at the beginning of November in which a British Conservative politician was falsely accused of child abuse in a children's home. Entwistle had only been appointed Director-General of the BBC eight weeks ago. The head of the BBC's World Service, Tim Davie, will now take over as head of the broadcaster until a successor to Entwistle is found. (SDA)

Meta Design gives Migipig a face

To make saving more engaging, Migros Bank created a campaign designed to gain additional momentum through social media: Migipig. Meta Design gave Migipig a visual identity and designed the website.

With Migipig, you can define a savings goal, manage it on your own, share it with others and redeem it. One is able to plan and achieve goals in the long term, according to the announcement. The Meta Design agency created for Migipig its own character in its own world. Migipig is alive - and in the midst of life, as expressed by various attributes to his character. "It was a bit of an art" to give Migipig a humorous character without it seeming childish, the agency said in a statement. True to the Migros Bank brand, Migipig acts as an uncomplicated, likeable and transparent partner. And accompanies the saver on the way to his personal savings goal and desire, what the claim "Migipig. That's what I want." reflects. Matthias Hunn, Head of Marketing Migros Bank: "Migipig brings together the good old piggy bank and the possibilities of Web 2.0. This makes saving more fun and goals can be achieved faster." André Stauffer, Creative Director at Meta Design: "Developing Migipig was a strategically and creatively challenging, exciting process. In the collaboration, joy and humor were not neglected, which is positively expressed in the result."

ADC: New Office and 100 Wisdoms

On Friday, the ADC opened its new office at Zentralstrasse 18 in Zurich. The first event was a vernissage featuring “Creative Imperatives” by Frank Bodin, who discussed the changes in an interview with *Werbewoche*.

WW: ADC's new offices will open with an exhibition of Frank Bodin's 100 #Creative #Imperatives. What is the idea?
Frank Bodin: The idea started when I felt compelled to be present on Twitter in addition to Facebook, Myspace and the like. Our Americans in the network are very active there, so I agreed. Dealing with the new digital possibilities is important for a creative person. However, I don't want to reveal anything private, and I don't want to say in a tweet that I'm currently at our new ADC headquarters for an interview or eating pizza. So the decision was made: Every day for a year, I will write a thought on the topic of creativity that is as not too stupid as possible. The experiment started on August 9, 2011.

How was the feedback?
It has spread incredibly fast and given extremely much feedback. So after my 366 #Creative #Imperatives - 2012 was a leap year - I'm now moving on to #Creative #Imperatives of Others, which are new Imperatives now written by fans under their own names.

From tweet to exhibition in ADC's new office: how did it come about?
The tweets have become known in the scene. The ADC board therefore suggested that I make an exhibition out of the best or most provocative of them for the opening of the new office and gallery. I have put together a selection of 100 for the show, in the frame 35 on 50. Remy Fabrikant has kindly dropped off the #Imperatives with his agency. I myself hammered in 200 nails for hanging for over eight hours last Sunday.

How long will the exhibition be accessible?
Planned until the end of the year. The new office and gallery, as well as our new managing director Gioia Bozzato, naturally reflect a new program for ADC. In the future, we want to be much more the association of the leading creatives in the communications industry. We also want to open up to domains that are still underrepresented now: more photographers, filmmakers, designers, online artists. But it can also be architects or product designers. The second is an old dream of mine. I've always felt that this previous office hidden in the upper village is actually a wrong sign. We are an association of creative people, so we should also present ourselves in a creative place. The filmmaker Michael Steiner is a friend of mine, his wife Minerva used to run the gallery Mondejar here on Zentralstrasse. At some point I placed: Such a space would also be something for us. Now the opportunity has presented itself, because the Steiner family wants to travel more with their small children in the near future. We discussed the opportunity in the board and all welcomed the idea.

What does ADC want with this space?
It is intended to be a meeting place, a place of inspiration and debate. Eight to ten events and exhibitions are planned. In addition, there will be the book vernissage or sometimes a reading or small concerts. We will certainly exhibit the work of young creatives. It is also planned that an architect can present his project or photographers their work.

Are your images sold?
Yes, but it's not that I need a sideline. The piece costs 200 francs. The #Imperatives are available in an edition of 5. Half of the price, i.e. 100 francs, goes directly to ADC for the renovation investments at the new headquarters. You can also buy the subjects en bloc. For only 20,000 Swiss francs, you then have a collected wisdom of 100 #Creative #Imperatives ...

Last but not least: Tupac Shakur (25)

When it comes to Gölä, *Blick* shows no mercy. Or what was that about «Hip-Hop Superstar Tupac Shakur (25)»?

The story was heart-warming: Blick regular Gölä brings his offspring Mike on stage at his Hallenstadion concert. He likes rap instead of dialect Büezer rock, but is otherwise quite alright ("Instead of rock, we now have Büezer rap"). And the joint performance was - Blick.ch has the Video evidence - refreshingly good. Even a 15-year-old deserves a beer with his father "as a reward for the performance".

2pac-2
Image: Excerpt from Sonntagsblick, November 11, 2012

However, there is one flaw in the reporting. Tupac Shakur, Mike's great role model, is not 25, but dead. And he's been dead for a trivial 16 years. Of course, you don't need to know that, but you can. After all, the young man sold 75 million records and is still considered an icon of music history today.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that Gölä and Tupac (2Pac) have appeared together in a Blick article. Back in 1999, the now retired (but no less legendary) H. Elias Fröhlich wondered why musicians like "2Pac, who was shot dead two years ago" were "doing like animals" in the US charts ("They're crazy, the Americans!"). Perhaps because they were still "beastly" famous back then. But so was Gölä at the time, who received the verdict "Victory! Bravo, Gölä!". (hae)

Salvation Army on SF Decision Show

This fall, 180 bands applied to represent Switzerland at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest; nine of them have now qualified for the SF selection show on December 15. Among them: the Salvation Army.

Neither the client nor the agency Spinas Civil Voices could ever have dreamed that they would trigger such a huge response with this individual campaign, which is intended to rejuvenate the image, the agency said in a statement.

Whether the band and its 93-year-old bassist will manage to prevail against the last eight competitors will be revealed on December 15 in the Bodensee-Halle in Kreuzlingen. Well over 60,000 YouTube views, a high media presence and a fan community that is growing daily would at least give hope for good things, the agency continues.

The ESC team: Matthias Freuler, Stephan Huwiler, Corinne Bucher, Reinhard Kronenberg (Spinas Civil Voices), Georg Schlunegger, Roman Camenzind (Hitmill), Martin Küenzi (Salvation Army).

Digital TV: Swisscom follows suit

Starting in December, Swisscom DSL customers will also receive digital television free of charge: «Swisscom TV Light» offers access to over 60 channels, 22 of which are in HD. This entry-level package is automatically included in the monthly DSL subscriptions.

After UPC Cablecom announced the removal of encryption for digital television (Werbewoche.ch reported), its main competitor Swisscom is following suit. As the company announced on Monday, it will also be offering a "free" TV service from December. DSL subscribers will now receive 60 channels without a monthly basic fee. The new offer is included in the DSL subscriptions "Mini", "Standard" and "Infinity". For technical reasons, customers who want to use "Swisscom TV Light" need a Swisscom TV box. This will be available from December 1 in the Swisscom Shop or from online order. Pre-orders are already possible from November 12, according to a statement. With the introduction of "Swisscom TV Light", "Swisscom TV Select" will no longer be available.

"Swisscom TV Light" offers 22 HD channels, but customers have to do without live sports and pay-per-view movies. It is not surprising that this is one of the two relevant differences to all paid TV subscriptions. If the advantages of the most expensive offer "Swisscom TV Plus" (live pause, recording function) can be circumvented with hard disc recorders - except for replay - there are no comparable alternatives for the customer-friendly Teleclub sports offers at a single price. Swisscom does not want to be deprived of its main advantage over UPC Cablecom by the free offer that has become due. The other difference that could hurt free customers: "Swisscom TV Light" does not offer the option of operating a second TV with an additional box. As a result, the free offer is only available for single-TV households and is thus not likely to be an option for many customers.

The reduced number of channels is probably less of a deterrent for existing subscription customers. After all, 60 channels are still more than people were used to in the analog era and meet the needs of many TV consumers. The lowest-priced paid subscription "Start" is not only made more attractive by the newly added sports and movie function, but also doubles the number of channels to 110. The Internet offers are also adjusted: The speed is increased to 2 Mbit/s for "DSL Start" and to 5 Mbit/s for "DSL Mini", thus more than doubling. The monthly subscription price remains unchanged. The changeover will take place gradually from now until January 2013, according to Swisscom. Customers will automatically benefit from the adjustment and will be personally informed about the timing of the changeover. There will be no changes to the remaining DSL subscriptions. (hae)
