Goldbach: new large-scale online advertising formats

Goldbach Audience is introducing new large-format online advertising formats to Switzerland. In addition to its own Skyfloat format, Goldbach Audience is the first Swiss provider to offer eye-catching IAB branding advertising formats through its «Rising Stars» initiative.

Developed the "IAB Rising StarsThe "Advertising Value" was developed by a cross-disciplinary group of creative directors, media planners, publishers and specialists in the U.S., as Goldbach writes in a press release. In 2011, they selected six advertising formats from a pool of 36 innovative proposals whose potential to increase brand values they judged to be optimal. The "Rising Stars" include Billboard, Filmstrip, Portrait, Pushdown, Sidekick and Slider and will be offered by Goldbach Audience as standard in its own marketing network with immediate effect.

At the same time as launching the "IAB Rising Stars", Goldbach Audience is launching its own large-format advertising format: the Skyfloat. A video format designed to capture the full attention of users and to be an extension of TV and in-stream campaigns. Moving image campaigns can thus be delivered to almost any website in the Goldbach Premium Display Network.

For Alexander Horrolt, Managing Director Goldbach Audience Switzerland, the advantages of the new formats are obvious: "They offer enough space for creative implementations to increase brand values. They enable a positive and user-friendly experience through multimedia and interactive functions and allow the possibility of own forms of presentation through integration into the website content with selectable expand functions. This opens up extremely interesting, creative and in some cases completely new branding possibilities for our customers - something we are proud of."

Last but not least: copywriting is so romantic

You can end up overthinking things unnecessarily when writing an ad. Shop 24 Direct shows that there's another way.

Anyone who has ever watched television at inappropriate times knows that the private broadcasters we trust are not only selling off their frequencies to Mike Shiva's Heilbringer, but also to teleshopping channels. These channels, in turn, recoup their expenditure with rotating mops, laser-sharpened V-slicers or folk music. Store 24 Direct is particularly good at the latter. Uninitiated viewers not only learn why you have to pay 90 francs for four CDs these days, but also that a man called Louis Menar is a living legend in this field. So legendary that, according to the voice-over, it was almost difficult to limit the selection of his greatest hits to 80 titles. To illustrate this, a talented lyricist contributes arguments in an impressive cadence and leaves no doubt that the ordering process is just a formality. Or what do you have to counter the statement "This song is so romantic!"? And "No one is as uniquely wonderful as he is!" should silence even the last critic. Here are a few examples:

For example, the publisher Vreni Schneider's musical talent was already discovered when Swiss television still thought she was a ski racer. Her compilation includes titles such as "Sex und Rösti ("das isch's Gröschti!") and "Cervelat" ("en ächte Schwyzer Maa, de brucht en Cervelat"). (hae)

Press Council: Privacy despite double murder

Media must show extreme restraint in naming names even in spectacular crimes. The Press Council reprimanded two Ticino newspapers in connection with a double murder in the southern Graubünden valley of Puschlav, it announced on Tuesday.

The first was Radiotelevisione Svizzera (RSI), which reported in several broadcast outlets last December that a truck driver had been arrested in the Brusio double murder case. The man, who was given his full name, was suspected of having ordered the murder in November 2010. Then the online portals of the Ticino daily newspapers Giornale del Popolo and Corriere del Ticino followed suit with the naming. Family members of the arrested man subsequently complained to the Swiss Press Council, claiming a violation of the "Declaration of the Duties and Rights of Journalists".

Respect privacy

The complaint was upheld: Press Council recalls in its decision published Tuesday that media professionals are obliged to respect the privacy of the individual person, unless the public interest requires the opposite. The person arrested in connection with the double murder in Brusio was not a public figure. Even an arrest in a sensational double murder does not justify a public interest in identifying reporting, the Press Council further writes. Also criticized is the apparently widespread practice in the canton of Ticino of naming names in the case of serious crimes. The newspapers criticized were also not allowed to assume that the name of the arrested person was already generally known, because RSI had previously reported in an identifying manner. The Press Council did not address the complaint against RSI's reporting because parallel proceedings are underway with RSI's ombudsman. (SDA)

Change in the jury of the Zurich Journalism Prize

Hansi Voigt has been elected to the jury of the Zurich Journalism Prize. He replaces the journalist and philosopher Marco Meier, who for 6 years contributed his great experience in judging outstanding journalistic works.

In a statement sent out on Monday, the foundation board and jury thank Marco Meier for his commitment. The thoroughbred journalist Hansi Voigt (49) was editor-in-chief of 20 Minuten Online for five years, during which time he developed the portal into the news platform with the widest reach in Switzerland. Prior to that, he was head of copy at the Beobachter and deputy editor-in-chief of Cash and the business newspaper Internet-Standard. Voigt, who grew up in Aargau, completed postgraduate studies in business communications and leadership at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences.

"Hansi Voigt is a competent addition to the top-class jury," says Andrea Masüger, President of the Foundation Board. From 2013, the Zurich Journalism Prize will be awarded without the previous categories. Texts that have been published only or also in online media are explicitly welcome. "It is not the type of medium or publication that should decide, but only the quality of the submitted text," says Masüger. The call for entries for the 2013 Zurich Journalism Prize, which will be awarded in May of next year, is currently open until January 15, 2013.

The jury consists of Fredy Gsteiger (president), Susan Boos, Margrit Sprecher, Hansi Voigt and Alain Zucker. The Foundation Board is composed of Andrea Masüger (President), Esther Girsberger, Kaspar Loeb and David Strohm.
