Book tip: "Developing team culture

Consultant Axel Schweickhardt has compiled a number of benchmarks that can be applied to existing teams and offers tips for their further development.

In many a team, everyone fights only for themselves and there is a lack of common spirit. Others seem like an oasis of well-being: everyone likes each other, but work seems to be nothing more than a necessary evil. In both cases, it is high time to address the team culture. Consultant Axel Schweickhardt has compiled some benchmarks that can be applied to existing teams and provides tips for further development.

However, there is sufficient guidance only for those teams that have already reached a certain level of maturity. For tough crisis situations and fundamental conflicts, other guides are recommended. For all those who are slowly reaching their limits with a passably acting team, there are valuable tips here, finds getAbstract.

Fast food journalism: Cavalcade launches new campaign for Sept.info

The Geneva-based agency Cavalcade has launched a new campaign for the magazine Sept.info. The campaign highlights the «fast-foodification» of the media by illustrating current events with burger and french fry packaging.

With the internet, speed, shock and scandal have become the priority for many media outlets. People no longer have the time to investigate, question and tell stories. The consequences are similar to those of food: you keep your mind busy without nourishing it. Now is the time to change the rhythm with "slow journalism".

Responsible at Cavalcade: Julien de Preux (AD); David von Ritter (CW), Radoxist Studio (CGI).

Security on the Net: Swiss Users Vulnerable to Phishing

Over the past two months, Google has surveyed Swiss citizens about their internet usage. The result: There is still some room for improvement when it comes to security.

In December 2018 and January 2019, Google conducted a representative study in 20 European countries on the topic of online security to mark this year's Safer Internet Day (February 5, 2019). Swiss citizens were also surveyed - including on phishing, hacker attacks and the use of security technologies. The results showed that Switzerland still has some catching up to do in international comparison.

Phishing is a problem

In terms of internet security, Switzerland scores just below average in a European comparison. The Swiss fall victim to phishing less frequently (47 %) than their Austrian neighbors (49 %), but much more frequently than the Germans (40 %). The average of all respondents in other European countries is 45 %. In Europe, users in Poland (35 %), Finland (31 %) and Hungary (28 %) stated that they were the least affected by phishing.

The Swiss are more susceptible to virus and malware attacks than their European neighbors. 22 % state that they have already been affected by such an attack. In Austria the figure is 17 %, in Germany 10%. The European average is 16%.

Phishing

Switzerland has an above-average level of security

On the positive side, the Swiss take better care of their online security than their German-speaking neighbors. Domestic users are more likely to use the latest security technologies to protect themselves from attacks. According to the study, 25 % of Swiss people use two-factor authentication for all their accounts. In Austria the figure is 21 %, in Germany 17 %. This figure also puts Switzerland above the European average (20 %). As many as 45 % use this tool for some of their accounts (Austria 41 %, Germany: 36 %, average: 42 %).

Furthermore, 27 % of respondents from Switzerland secure all their online accounts with a telephone number or second email address for recovery, while a further 44 % do this for at least some of their accounts. Austrians act in a similar way: 31 % of users take this precaution for all accounts and 44 % for at least some of their online accounts. The Germans are less prudent (23 % and 40 %). The European average is better when it comes to securing all online accounts (32 % for all, 40 % for some of their accounts).

Security Bank data most critical for all Europeans

Financial data is particularly close to the hearts of the Swiss. When it comes to online data security, Swiss users are most concerned about the security of their financial data (56 %). In Austria, the figure is 50%, while this is only a priority issue for 44% of Germans. In the UK, users are particularly concerned about their financial data: For 60% of respondents, this online data is the most critical. The European average is 57%.

Independent complaints authority reprimands SRF

The Complaint: Discriminatory Coverage of the World Cup

The Independent Complaints Authority for Radio and Television UBI has upheld a complaint against a humorous contribution broadcast by SRF television as part of its coverage of the Football World Cup.

A sequence in which the editorial team referred to women's breasts with a play on words and images of a female football fan violated the prohibition of discrimination under broadcasting law.

SRF television reported extensively on the Football World Cup, which took place in various Russian cities from June 14 to July 15, 2018, with numerous broadcasts of matches and special programs. Following the round of 16 final match between Argentina and France on June 30, 2018, SRF television broadcast a humorous review of the completed group phase with the first 48 matches at around 6 pm. A woman lodged a popular complaint against this and criticized the sequence "Tears, goals, defending champions' frustration". In it, a woman in a red T-shirt was shown jumping for joy with the comment "Tiiii - defending champion frustration" to her bouncing breasts.

This constituted discrimination against women, as they had been degraded to their secondary sexual characteristics. In the controversial discussion, a majority of the commission considered the complaint to be well-founded. The sexist content was an end in itself and thus discriminated against women. The fact that the sequence was only short and the word "tits" was not used does not change this. A minority of the UBI, on the other hand, found that the objectionable sequence in a humorous contribution was primarily a question of style or taste, which is not for the UBI to judge.

In the vote, the UBI narrowly approved the complaint by five votes to four on the grounds that it violated the prohibition of discrimination under broadcasting law. However, the members agreed that the contribution was neither immoral nor did it violate the protection of minors under broadcasting law. The documentary "Welcome to Switzerland", which was broadcast by SRF television as part of the "CH-Filmszene" program on 17 August 2018, was also the subject of today's public deliberations at the UBI.

The film focused on the events in the Aargau municipality of Oberwil-Lieli, which had become known throughout the country because it refused to accept asylum seekers allocated by the canton. Contrary to the opinion expressed in the popular complaint lodged against it, the UBI came to the conclusion that the events were presented in an appropriate manner. The key facts about the events in question were correct and the protagonists were given ample opportunity to speak. The UBI therefore unanimously rejected the complaint.

The UBI also judged a contribution by the consumer magazine "A Bon Entendeur" from Radio Télévision Suisse on the dangers of water sports to be appropriate. The complaints about the instructor shown in the report only concerned program law to a limited extent. The UBI also unanimously rejected this complaint.

The UBI is an extra-parliamentary federal commission that has been chaired by lawyer and communications consultant Mascha Santschi Kallay since January 1, 2019. In response to complaints, the UBI must determine whether radio and television broadcasts by Swiss broadcasters or publications from the SRG's other journalistic offerings have violated provisions of radio and television law or whether there has been an unlawful refusal of access to a program or publication. Decisions of the UBI can be appealed to the Federal Supreme Court once the written reasons for the decision have been submitted.

zkb-kmu-preis-7

Every year, Zürcher Kantonalbank awards a total of CHF 150,000 to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that make an outstanding contribution to sustainable development as part of their business activities. The Zurich-based digital marketing agency was founded in 2009 by Tom Hanan and Tobias Zehnder and today has around 170 employees. The topic of sustainability was important to the founders right from the start: from sustainable growth, sustainable customer and employee relationships to reducing the ecological footprint through initiatives such as "Bike to Work" and ZVV travelcards for employees, as well as measures to reduce waste and electricity, (almost) everything is covered.

Tom Hanan, CEO Webrepublic: " I am delighted to receive this award: Since our foundation almost 10 years ago, it has always been very important to us to operate as sustainably as possible in the fast-moving digital world. We do everything we can for long-term, productive relationships with our employees and our customers. The fact that ZKB has recognized our corporate sustainability makes me proud and is a nice confirmation of the team's excellent work "
