Darbellay article in Weltwoche appears despite court ban

An article about Christophe Darbellay, a CVP member of the Valais cantonal government, appeared in the latest issue of *Weltwoche* despite a publication ban. The order from a Zurich court arrived too late for the print edition.

weltwoche-t

The controversial text by author Alex Baur and all references to it were blacked out in the electronic edition on Thursday. In Thursday's print edition, however, the article was published as normal.

When the super-provisional injunction from the Zurich district court arrived on Wednesday afternoon, the magazine had already been printed and was in the post, the Weltwoche with.

The article is about a dispute over maintenance payments. The married Darbellay had confessed to an infidelity in the run-up to the 2017 Valais cantonal elections, which resulted in a child.

The former CVP National Councillor and long-standing party president has been Valais Director of Economic Affairs and Education since 2017. The agricultural scientist from Martigny-Combe was elected to the government with the third-best result. The 48-year-old is a father of four.

The Weltwoche defends itself against the precautionary censorship. This is "not justified", said Editor-in-Chief Roger Köppel in a video accompanying the issue. The person concerned is a public figure.

On the censored front page of the electronic edition, only the words "Family policy" and "The bizarre dispute" can be read alongside the text. Instead of the text, the booklet contains a black space with the note that this publication is prohibited due to the injunction. (SDA)

Farner and Shopping Center Forum launch the Victor Digital Media Award

The communications agency Farner and Shopping Center Forum, the trade conference for the Swiss shopping center industry, have launched the Victor Digital Media Award. The award recognizes shopping centers that, through an effective online presence, skillfully bridge the gap between digital and brick-and-mortar retail in their communications, thereby contributing to the industry’s continued success.

farner-shopping-center-forum

The new award will be presented for the first time on May 9 at the Hotel Radisson Blu Zurich Airport as part of the 12th edition of the SC Forum. The Victor Digital Media Award, developed in co-creation by Farner and the SC Forum, assesses which shopping center is best positioned digitally. In the first stage of the process, Farner's digital marketing and retail industry experts evaluate the digital score of the 30 largest Swiss shopping centers and nominate ten favorites on this basis. An expert jury then selects the three winners and honors the first-place winner with the Victor Digital Media Award.

The jury is made up of the well-known retail and innovation expert Stephan Jung, SC Forum founder Jan Tanner and Christoph Emch, Deputy Head of Digital Marketing & Research at Farner. The final assessment criteria include the overall platform presence, brand consistency and the storytelling quality of the nominated shopping centers' digital presences.

"We take a holistic look at the digital presence of shopping centers: visibility, content quality and impact. All of these factors influence the success of the centers; an effective digital presence generates proximity to customers and ultimately leads to greater visitor growth," says Christoph Emch about the award concept.

"The Victor Digital Media Award is a notable addition to the Victor Award family this year. With this new award, we want to show the industry how important it is to open up to new trends and platforms and how relevant a strong digital presence can be for business success," explains Jan Tanner.

The Victor Award ceremony has been one of the highlights of the SC Forum for five years. Named after Victor Grün, the founder of the world's first shopping mall, the award is presented annually to particularly successful and innovative centers and personalities from the scene. The Victor Lifetime Award also honors a person from the industry who has turned a vision with a long-term perspective into reality.

The three Victor Awards will be presented on May 9 as part of the 12th edition of the SC Forum at the Radisson Blu Zurich Airport in the presence of the 350 most important decision-makers in the industry. The theme of the conference is "CHAMELEON! Break down the walls! The farewell to the classic shopping center".

At the beginning of the year, the NZZ Media Group realigned its organizational structure. In the course of this, on the one hand the corporate units were realigned with a focus on the user and advertising markets in the area of marketing and sales, and on the other hand product development and customer experience, business development and portfolio management, as well as additional business in the area of products were combined.

The newly created position of Chief Revenue Officer will be filled by Johannes Boege as of September 1. In this role, he will be responsible for managing all marketing and sales topics of the core business of the NZZ Media Group across the board and will closely network them. "I am convinced that Johannes Boege, with his proven expertise and experience in publishing and digitization, will successfully develop the Marketing and Sales division and provide our company with significant support in the digital transformation. I am very much looking forward to working with him," said Felix Graf, CEO of NZZ Mediengrupppe, in a statement.

Johannes Boege is responsible for product development and management, technology, marketing and business intelligence at Politico Europe and is responsible for product optimization and strategic growth of the company with a focus on the user market. He joined Politico in 2017 from Axel Springer, where he held various leadership positions. At Axel Springer, he served as general manager for the printed daily and Sunday newspapers of the World responsible and for the introduction of the digital subscription model of the World and the acquisition and integration of Germany's leading TV station N24. He also founded for the company the German business magazine Balance. From 2007 to 2009 he was assistant to the CEO of Axel Springer, Mathias Döpfner.

Johannes Boege holds a double degree in international business administration and a master's degree in public policy. He studied at the European School of Business and the Hertie School of Governance in Germany, at the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Reims, at the University of Gothenburg and at the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs in New York.

Monica Dell'Anna, member of the Executive Board and Head of Products, will leave the company at the beginning of April to pursue new challenges. She took over as Head of the new Products division on January 1, with responsibility for Product Development and Customer Experience, Business Development and Portfolio Management, and the Additional Businesses. She also continued to be responsible for the business media for which she had already been responsible since 2016: the NZZ conferences including the Swiss Economic Forum, the Zurich Film Festival as well as the business information platform Moneyhouse and the online platform for architecture and design, Architonic.

Felix Graf: "Monica Dell'Anna has led the Business Media division very successfully over the past three years. She has contributed significantly to the successful implementation of the NZZ Media Group's strategy in this area and thus to its profitability. She has thus laid a very solid foundation for the next steps."

Monica Dell'Anna's successor, whose name can be announced shortly, has many years of experience in the media industry as well as in-depth expertise in the digital sector. Until she starts in August, CEO Felix Graf, CFO Jörg Schnyder and CTO Andreas Bossecker will take over the interim management of the Products Business Unit.

Valencia implements employer branding campaign for BLKB

Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank is partnering with the Basel-based agency Valencia Kommunikation to recruit IT specialists. And it’s doing so through a surprisingly straightforward recruiting campaign.

F12

IT specialists are in demand throughout Switzerland. The financial sector is also in the throes of the digital transformation and is intensively searching for the right specialists. BLKB is therefore targeting IT professionals from the region who previously had to travel a long way to work. The local bank is a surprisingly modern employer and therefore particularly attractive for the target group.

To stand out from the crowd of job offers, the campaign uses the format of digital source code, which IT specialists work with every day. The text of the campaign consists of a code snippet that draws attention to the vacancies in the bank's IT department. Only those who know about software development are able to fully understand the advertisement. "Our intention was to address the target group as much as possible at eye level," says creative director Simone Fluri, explaining the concept. In the process, Valencia was also able to benefit from the in-house digital know-how of its web agency cab services ag.

At the same time, the campaign also addresses private "influencers": people who are close to an IT professional and could motivate them to change jobs. The campaign microsite also addresses IT professionals in their own language and highlights the most relevant advantages of BLKB as an employer for the target group. The campaign is currently running on posters and ePanels at train stations in northwestern Switzerland, on public transport screens, and on the web.

Scholz & Friends Zurich for the NZZ: Opinion making to watch

With the expansion of its Berlin office and the launch of the German edition of «NZZ Digital,» the Neue Zürcher Zeitung aims to further solidify its long-term presence in the German newspaper market. Scholz & Friends Zurich has developed the new campaign identity for this initiative.

For the target group of discerning readers and decision-makers, opinion-forming is a lively and inspiring process. The campaign makes it visible. With powerful images, inspiring texts and the slogan "What do you think?", it invites people to get involved.

The campaign shows how the NZZ enriches the German market with its well-known journalistic quality, but also with its consistent liberal stance: it allows for diversity of opinion, represents clear positions, asks critical questions, gives space to arguments and thus contributes to opinion-forming and debate.

The multi-stage campaign is orchestrated with a digital focus in online video, social ads, display banners, native ads, newsletters and accompanying digital out-of-home and print advertising. Leadership of the Vatican women's magazine gives up: "male control"

The management of a Vatican women's magazine has resigned because it considers itself to be under the "direct control of men". The magazine had recently focused on the abuse of nuns and the oppression of women in the Catholic Church.

vatikan

"We are throwing in the towel because we find ourselves surrounded by a climate of mistrust and progressive delegitimization," wrote the founder of Donne Chiese Mondo (Women Church World), Lucetta Scaraffia, in a letter to Pope Francis.

"Now it seems to us that a vital initiative is being silenced and that there is a return to the outdated, withered mores of selecting women deemed trustworthy under the direct control of men," Scaraffia wrote in the letter, which was obtained by the news agency DPA on Tuesday.

Donne Chiesa Mondo is a monthly supplement to the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano. The magazine was founded in 2012 with the support of the then Pope Benedict XVI. The director of the Osservatore RomanoAndrea Monda, denied on Tuesday that she had ever selected anyone based on the "criterion of obedience".

With Scaraffia, all ten remaining employees are leaving the editorial team, according to the Vatican news platform Vatican News reported.

In February, the magazine denounced the Catholic Church's inaction with regard to the abuse of nuns. "If the Church continues to close its eyes to the scandal, (...) nothing will ever change regarding the oppression of women in the Church." Francis himself had admitted that sexual abuse of nuns was a problem in the Church.

Good marks for Swiss radio and television

The public gives Swiss radio and television programs high marks. They are rated more highly than in previous years. Regional television, in particular, has seen an improvement. This is shown by a representative survey commissioned by the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom). The office published the study on Tuesday.

fernsehen

Acceptance of Swiss radio and television services remains high. TV viewers and radio listeners are even more satisfied with the programs they use than in previous years. As in the past, SRG radio stations received the highest ratings. In the latest survey, conducted in 2018, regional television programs received significantly better ratings. Such surveys have been conducted since 2009. Never before have regional television programs received such high marks. The overall assessment of local radio stations was also slightly better than the previous year.

The survey asked about professionalism, information content, local relevance, balance, credibility, entertaining nature and satisfaction. Local relevance and credibility were rated highest for local radio and regional television. Professionalism and credibility are the highest-rated characteristics among SRG radio stations and SRG television programs.

Increase in live radio usage via the Internet and time-shifted radio usage

93 percent of respondents have a conventional TV set and 83 percent have a radio set. There are significant differences, particularly in the case of radio sets: While 91 percent of the over-55 age group has a conventional radio set in the household, only 75 percent of the 15-35 age group does. Compared with the previous year, this proportion has fallen among younger people. By contrast, the proportion of those who listen to live radio via the Internet has risen significantly (from 44 to 58 percent). Time-shifted radio use has also increased sharply (from 36 to 44 percent of respondents).

Appreciation of classic journalism

The media should provide factual and accurate information. Recently, fake news, the deliberate playing out of false information, has repeatedly been uncovered and made a public issue. How do Swiss radio and TV audiences view this phenomenon? This question was included in the survey for the first time in 2018, limited to German-speaking Switzerland. The result: More than half of those surveyed consider fake news to be a problem, and 39 percent believe that fake news has an influence on votes and elections.

An in-depth data analysis shows that it is above all the credibility of SRG programs that counters the fear of fake news. This means that those who rate the credibility of SRG highly classify fake news as a problem to a lesser extent.

About the study

The Institute for Applied Communications Research (IaKom) conducted this study on behalf of Bakom. The results are based on a representative telephone survey conducted by the institute DemoSCOPE between April 30 and June 18, 2018. Demoscope conducted a total of 3653 interviews among people aged 15 and older in German, French and Italian. IaKom processed and analyzed the data and wrote the report. The results do not show any objective measurement, but rather reflect the subjective perception of the programs from the audience's point of view. The respondents rate only those programs that they actually use themselves.

The survey cost 155,196 Swiss francs. The next survey will take place in the current year.
