Facebook changes corporate logo - but sticks to name
According to its chief marketing officer, Facebook had considered changing its name so that the company, with its various services, would not be perceived solely as the operator of the online network. In the end, however, they decided against it, Antonio Lucio told the financial news service Bloomberg.

He said the company did not want to give the impression that it was running away from problems following data scandals and criticism. "That would have been perceived by the rest of the world as disingenuous." Instead, Facebook on Monday unveiled a new logo with the same company name for the group. It differs from the online network's logo and is expected to appear more often in the future alongside the group's other brands, such as Instagram and WhatsApp.
According to surveys, many users do not know that the photo platform Instagram and the chat service WhatsApp belong to Facebook, Lucio said. If they knew that, it would improve Facebook's reputation. At the same time, the marketing chief conceded that, on the other hand, a brand like WhatsApp could be damaged, at least in the short term, by the clearer disclosure of its connection to Facebook. But Facebook accepts this because it hopes for a long-term positive effect.
Facebook had already started mentioning the group's name in its other apps in the summer. The new logo should now make it even more visible to users of Instagram and WhatsApp, among others. The Facebook Group also owns the virtual reality specialist Oculus and the office communications platform Workplace. (SDA)
