Not enough audience: SRF discontinues regional web presences

The regional subpages of Srf.ch are not reaching a large enough audience. They will therefore be discontinued. Going forward, stories from the regions will appear on the front page of the main site.

srf

The media office of SRF confirmed corresponding information of the SonntagsZeitung to Keystone-SDA.

Since 2012, the regional editorial teams have been producing a lot of digital content for the web, the SRF app and social media "every day with great effort," writes media spokesman Stefan Wyss. Formats and audience needs have changed significantly over the past seven years, but the offering has never been fundamentally adapted.

That's why it was subjected to an analysis. This showed that the articles on the news pages of the regional editorial offices and the regional subpages of Srf.ch "hardly generate any reach. Despite various measures, the reach could not be increased.

Ten times more audience

However, he said, it has been shown that regional stories reach ten times the audience when they are published on the front of Srf.ch or Srf.ch/news.

Therefore, the regional web presences will now be discontinued and the stories from the regions will be placed on the front of the main page. The same applies to the Facebook presences of the editorial offices in Basel, Bern and St. Gallen.

The new strategy is "explicitly not a savings program," SRF writes, "there are no job cuts. On the other hand, the job profile of regional online editors is changing - from fast news desks to "authors with national appeal. (SDA)

Comet: Campaign for the Berner Zeitung goes into the next round

The Bern-based agency Komet has launched new ad concepts for the Berner Zeitung's ongoing campaign.

BZ_Belpmoos_493x720px

The mechanics of the regional campaign for the Bernese Newspaper It's actually quite simple—and offers countless possibilities. Images of world events are combined with keywords on regional topics, thereby presenting potential readers with one topic after another, showing that the Bernese Newspaper reports on international news from its own regional perspective.

Thus, the Bernese Newspaper, in which «the region always comes first,» Donald Trump and his golf buddies are summarily likened to the «Büetzerbuebe,» and the border fence with Mexico to the «Röstigraben.».

Ogilvy for Mattel: Helping girls become strong women

Ogilvy and Boutiq Films have created a campaign for Barbie manufacturer Mattel designed to introduce girls to strong women who have made their dreams come true.

Barbie-Hero-Film-1-22-screenshot

A Study by New York University in collaboration with the University of Illinois and Princeton from 2017 states that girls start to doubt their potential from the age of six. Mattel wants to prevent that and introduce them to strong women who have achieved their dreams. Ogilvy captured one of those encounters for Mattel, along with Boutiq Films.

The heroines of the spot are nine-year-old climber Julia and Evelyne Binsack. The adventurer and mountain guide is one of the few women who have been to Mount Everest, the North Pole and the South Pole. She is the first Swiss woman to receive a unique Barbie modelled after her. Since 2015, Barbie has been honoring special women who are role models.

The short film and its cutdown will be used for a PR event as well as an online advertising campaign. The content will be played out to mothers of young girls.

DSC01226

20 years of Edi. The Swiss Commissioned and Commercial Film Award is under the patronage of the Federal Department of Home Affairs and organized by the Swissfilm Association. According to the organizers, outstanding works were submitted in the anniversary year, including 68 films for shortlist nominated and twelve were awarded an Edi. The winners of the Edi.19 were announced at the awards ceremony on November 7.

The award ceremony was all about the anniversary with the motto "20 Years Greatest Hits". In several blocks, the last 20 years of the now history-making award were looked back on and all the gold winners were honored on the oversized screen. On the occasion of the great anniversary, Federal Councillor Alain Berset, head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs - who gave the Edi its name - did the honors and gave his usual rhetorically successful, charming speech.

Bronze: Quöllfrisch Petite Fraîche

How do you sell an East Swiss beer with the tongue twister "Quöllfrisch" in French-speaking Switzerland? You don't even try to pronounce the name correctly and let a Romand speak the text, which turns the entire spot into a German-Swiss nonsense monologue. Staging and timing are à point. So much self-irony deserves bronze. Birrli was great, wasn't it?

Gold: The truth about our CT teachings

An unexpectedly self-deprecating film from an industry that usually doesn't stand out with cheeky films. This is worth its weight in gold to the jury.

The answer launches sweet social media campaign for SteviaSweet

With "Sweet Puppies", the answer for SteviaSweet has developed an international social media campaign that focuses on the product benefits of SteviaSweet. The campaign led to increased traffic on social channels, a steadily growing community and more orders in the new online store.

Visual_Sweetpuppies_A4hoch-1

The agency's concept focuses on the natural sweetness of the product and puts it in context with cute little animals and babies.

In the first phase, the agency wanted to generate attention through target group-specific videos step by step using the emotions/needs/offers principle: Different target groups were to be addressed through videos based on well-known memes and GIFs. In the next step, the needs of the individual target groups were addressed and then linked to the product benefits.

Customers were primarily addressed directly via Facebook and Instagram as well as via an influencer campaign. Selected influencer content was in turn used for the advertising material in the subsequent phases in order to address the target groups even more authentically and specifically. While the first phase was primarily about generating a lot of reach, the target groups were addressed more specifically and via retargeting in the subsequent need and product phases.

The campaign content was measured in various waves and continuously optimized. The campaign was accompanied by diet tips, sugar-free recipes and community support, which is also provided by the agency.

The digital campaign will run until the end of the year in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

Marco von Ah new Head of Communication and Marketing at PH Luzern

Marco von Ah is the new head of the Communications and Marketing Department at the Lucerne University of Teacher Education (PH Luzern). The former head of media at the Swiss Football Association (SFV) will take over the position from Philipp Berger on December 16.

marco von ah

As head of communications and marketing at PH Luzern, von Ah will be responsible for internal and external communications, public relations, marketing activities and the activity report, among other things, PH Luzern announced on Friday.

The 57-year-old Horwer had joined the SFV in 2008 at the request of then national team coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. This summer, he relinquished his position as media officer for the national teams after a report investigated the association's structures in the wake of what happened during the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia ("double eagle affair") (Werbewoche.ch reported). Previously, von Ah worked as a journalist and department head.

His predecessor Philipp Berger is leaving the PH Luzern at his own request at the end of 2019 to take up a new professional challenge. The PH Luzern trains teachers for elementary school, high school, vocational and adult education, as well as special education teachers. Currently, around 2260 people are studying at the PH Luzern. The new Migros Christmas campaign from Wirz: Helfen macht Freu(n)de

Not Finn, but Mimi. Through an animal-themed surprise, Migros conveys a message of Christmas charity in this year’s campaign. Wirz is once again responsible for the execution.

Mimi

What belongs to a Christmas tree? Balls, candles, some tinsel - but an owl chick is rather unusual. But that's exactly what happens in the home of a family in this year's Migros Christmas commercial - a little owl hides in the tree as a stowaway. Just one look into the eyes of the still flightless owl and the daughter knows that she has to help him.

Together against loneliness

"Being there for each other" is the message of the Migros Christmas campaign again this year. Even in wealthy Switzerland, more than one million people are affected by or threatened by poverty.

Financial hardship often leads to social isolation. The needy are excluded from society. This is particularly stressful at Christmas time. The story of the girl and the little owl Mimi is meant to remind us that beautiful things happen when people help each other.

Show heart, buy heart

With the campaign launch on November 8, Mimi will serve as a reminder throughout the Advent season to think of those in need in Switzerland and to give them a gift of help. The film with the animated owl was supplemented with bumper ads pointing to various other campaigns.

The heart of the campaign remains the donation chocolates, the proceeds of which go entirely to the aid organizations Caritas, HEKS, Pro Juventute, Pro Senectute and Winterhilfe. For every heart purchased, Migros donates an additional 1 franc.

Radio SRF's domestic and foreign editorial offices remain in Bern

The first steps have been taken in Swiss Radio SRF’s relocation plans. The domestic and international news departments will remain in Bern. And the programs «Echo der Zeit,» «Rendez-vous,» and “Tagesgespräch” will continue to be produced at the radio studio in the federal capital.

srg-umzug

The business news desk will continue to operate from both Bern and Zurich. Management announced these decisions to the staff in Bern on Wednesday, according to SRF media spokesperson Stefan Wyss in a report by the Bernese Newspaper confirmed on Thursday. The decisions are an intermediate step in the radio station's new audio strategy.

No final decision has yet been made regarding the location of the 24-hour news channel SRF 4 News and the news editorial department. According to SRF, the editorial board plans to decide on the new operational concept by the end of the year. Nothing concrete has been decided yet.

Two Scenarios for News

According to Wyss, however, the general direction is clear. To integrate the programming department—which has been relocated from Bern—into the digital audio center at the planned Radio Hall in Zurich’s Leutschenbach district, a majority of SRF 4 News operations are likely to be relocated there. The Zurich radio studio Brunnenhof will also be integrated into the Radio Hall.

If the entire newsroom and SRF 4 News were to relocate to Zurich, approximately 70 employees in Bern would be affected. If the radio station were to relocate only part of the newsroom, about 30 employees would still have to change their place of work. Depending on the scenario, this would leave about 130 or 170 employees at the Bern radio studio.

In accordance with SRF’s audio strategy, the Leutschenbach Radio Hall will become the central development and production site for digital offerings. According to information released on Thursday, more than 40 employees from the Bern radio studio volunteered to participate in a subproject aimed at ensuring optimal integration with the future digital audio center in Zurich.

The Swiss Media Professionals« Union (SSM) expressed regret over the »minimum and maximum options” rubber-stamped by the Board of Directors. Relocating the entire SRF 4 newsroom—and possibly the news editorial department as well—would weaken Bern as a media hub. Locating the morning show in Zurich would create cumbersome coordination challenges. The focus on Zurich as an audio hub would deprive the editorial teams remaining in Bern of future prospects and an important pool of young talent.

Radio usage is changing

The radio station’s audio strategy is a response to digitization and cost-cutting pressures. Radio SRF’s «regular» broadcasts continue to reach a wide audience. However, listener behavior is changing.

Demand for audio-on-demand—that is, programs available for later listening or specially produced podcasts—is growing, particularly among younger audiences. Radio is meeting this need with podcasts tailored to specific topics and target audiences. SRF’s social media channels will soon feature social audio content and explanatory videos. At the end of October, SRF launched an audio platform and also offers over 20 apps for smart speakers.

The radio station’s relocation plans had caused a stir in political circles. As a result, the city and canton of Bern intervened. At the national level, Parliament stayed out of it. After the National Council had demanded that the SRG produce its radio news programs primarily in Bern and Lausanne, the Council of States rejected the corresponding parliamentary initiatives.

However, following the National Council's decision, the SRG reconsidered its centralization plans. The Swiss Radio and Television Corporation subsequently announced its new audio strategy. (SDA)

Jung von Matt/Limmat: In front of and behind the wall with Geberit

After Jung von Matt/Limmat launched its collaboration with Geberit with a B2B campaign, a follow-up B2C campaign for «Better bathrooms, better lives» is now underway.

Geberit_2

The Zurich-based agency has been accompanying the sanitaryware manufacturer in its strategic communications planning for two years and supports Geberit in both internal and external communications, in the B2B and B2C areas. Since the integration of Keramag in April 2019, the company combines a variety of competencies under one brand umbrella. Jung von Matt/Limmat started the collaboration with internal change communication and a B2B campaign and is now continuing it with the associated B2C campaign.

Concrete features for concrete needs

The campaign comprises six awareness spots, each of which focuses on a customer need. With the help of illustrative bridge elements and humorous implementation, the spots bridge the gap between customers' everyday lives and Geberit's products - be it the comb insert for the shower or the actuator plate with odor extraction for fresh air throughout the bathroom. All spots are intended to show that Geberit stands for the perfect fit between customer needs and technical refinements.

The awareness spots are played out online and accompanied by a print and digital campaign. Performance-driven programmatic advertising is used in the digital campaign. Geberit and Jung von Matt/Limmat are also using remarketing to target interested customers.

In front of the wall, behind the wall

Jung von Matt/Limmat has already realized the corresponding B2B campaign for the fully integrated "Geberit One" product line for Geberit this year. The campaign is aimed at plumbers, planners, architects and other bathroom specialists with the message that those who rely on Geberit products both in front of and behind the wall benefit from a wide range of advantages such as simple planning and installation.

Among other things, qualitative and quantitative target group segmentation serves as the basis for the communicative measures that Jung von Matt/Limmat has implemented and is implementing for Geberit.

With the previous work for Geberit, Jung von Matt/Limmat wanted to integrate the most diverse aspects of the distribution of sanitary products from a creative point of view into an overall understanding of the brand and, at the same time, support the streamlining of the brand presence in communicative terms.
