Zurich leases twelve new advertising installations for 1.7 million Swiss francs

The city of Zurich has awarded Clear Channel Switzerland the contract for twelve digital advertising installations. For compensation of CHF 1.73 million, the company can now manage the advertising sites. The concession is valid until July 2028.

With the construction of the twelve digital advertising spaces, the city of Zurich is expanding its network on public land to a total of 53 installations, 14 of which are at the interactive city maps, called Citypläne, and seven at VBZ stops. The new digital advertising spaces in Zurich's city center complement the existing offering on public land in Zurich, particularly on the important pedestrian axes to and from Bahnhofstrasse. The new advertising spaces will be in operation from mid-2020.

Bringing both worlds into balance

A serious conversation is never easy. In a TV commercial, a boy has to tell his favorite video game character that he’ll be spending more time away from the screen. Colenso BBDO and Play by Spark aim to raise awareness about the importance of balanced media consumption.

Technology has an increasing impact on everyday life. This is especially challenging for families - having a healthy balance between screen time and "traditional" activities like playing outside can be difficult.

Play by Spark wants to help families with this problem and is developing a smart ball in the shape of a rugby egg that can record a child's active play time via Bluetooth and match it with screen time. If the time limit is exceeded, parents receive a warning.

On the one hand, the gadget is intended to support growing children in developing a conscious approach to media and technology, and on the other hand, to provide parents with the right educational tools.

In the accompanying TV campaign, Toby has a conversation with his video game hero about the balance that needs to be restored - even away from the game world - which is why he won't be spending as much time with him anymore.

The campaign will also be spread across social, digital and out-of-home media. In 2020, initial test results of the smart ball will be evaluated and a decision made on further plans.

A cheeky appearance at the silent toilet for the VBZ

Ruf Lanz has launched a campaign for VBZ targeting the restroom.

ruf-lanz-vbz-1

With its streetcars and trolleybuses, VBZ brings 720,000 people to their destination every day with environmentally friendly electric energy. This means no exhaust fumes and no stench. To make the young, outgoing public aware of this, VBZ and its creative agency Ruf Lanz chose an unusual approach: text posters with a tongue-in-cheek double meaning in the toilets of hip clubs and restaurants in Zurich. In other words, where you can catch the young public in a quiet minute despite today's sensory overload.

Wingo answers perhaps the most important question about Brexit

Heimat Zürich, Wingo, and the Queen deliver a reassuring message to Swiss smartphone users in a short online clip.

With Thursday's elections in the United Kingdom, Brexit is once again in the media spotlight. And all the imponderables that are associated with it: Will there be shortages of medicines and food, will the conflict in Northern Ireland flare up again?

Wingo has now focused on a question that is likely to be of particular concern to the Swiss: At what conditions will they make phone calls and surf the Internet in the UK in the future? The answer is yes. For Wingo customers, everything will remain as it is - no matter what happens after the elections.

Home Zurich has used the momentum of Thursday's British election to draw attention to Wingo's offering with the online clip.

20 Minuten switches to "video first

20 Minuten is responding to Blick's TV plans and will adopt a «video first» approach going forward, with content produced directly from the newsroom. The video team will be expanded to include additional news reporters and a new production team.

In a statement Thursday, the news portal writes that the switch to "video first" is happening as part of the ongoing development of its moving image strategy, as well as a continuation of its convergent way of working. Starting in early 2020, video content will be supplemented by more live coverage of breaking news and special events. Thus, 20 Minuten is responding to the TV plans of View, as already announced on Sunday (Werbewoche.ch reported).

"Moving image is the biggest growth area of 20 minutes. The video offensive so far has been a success, but the consistent continuation and conversion to 'video first' will require additional investments. We are investing substantially in the expansion of the editorial team as well as in the further development and future viability of our employees - and ultimately in journalism," says Marcel Kohler, Managing Director 20 minutes and member of the Tamedia Management Board.

Gaudenz Looser, Editor-in-Chief of 20 minutesadds: "The need and demand for digital moving image offerings in the 'live' area is growing strongly. We want our readers to feel even more that we are the most up-to-date news medium in Switzerland. With the targeted further development of our video strategy, we want to consolidate and steadily expand our leading position."

Live premiere with ice hockey

A first live broadcast is already planned for December 20, 2019, in cooperation with MySports. The field hockey game between EV Zug and HC Davos will be broadcast exclusively on 20min.ch alongside MySports. The implementation of "Video first" is scheduled to start in February 2020, with full implementation expected to take until summer 2020.

Broadcasting takes place from a studio in the 20 minutes-newsroom in Zurich, glass walls offer users direct insights into the editorial department. The video team from 20 minuteswhich will be supplemented by additional news video journalists and a new production team. Journalists from the editorial team will take over moderation. Furthermore, the local newsrooms in German-speaking Switzerland will be supported by additional video staff.

In a further step, the reporting is to be supplemented with an entertainment program, and the gradual adaptation in French-speaking Switzerland is also planned. In addition to the existing online channels, the content is also to be made available via a smart TV app for the screen at home.

#get-tagging-done: Mediapulse wants to be able to measure Swiss use of online TV

With its new measurement system, Mediapulse can collect detailed data on online TV usage in Switzerland. So far, however, only SRG’s online offerings have been equipped with the necessary code snippet. That’s why Mediapulse called on TV broadcasters at the IGEM event to «tag» their online offerings as soon as possible—and presented its initial findings.

igem-logo

At the event of the electronic media interest group IGEM, Mirko Marr and Isabelle Waser from Mediapulse presented the upcoming online TV measurement. With the new measurement approach, Mediapulse is expanding the subject of TV research. For the first time, the use of TV programs will also be recorded via the online vector, regardless of end device, operating system, place of use or time of use and broadcast.

Online TV usage is measured with the more than 4,500 people and their approximately 9,000 devices in the existing TV panel (single source). This means that the online TV usage data is integrated directly into the existing TV currency without any intermediate statistical steps. In order for this to work, TV broadcasters need to add a code snippet to their online offering, known as "tagging." Mirko Marr, head of research at Mediapulse, called on TV stations to "#get-tagging-done".

For now, only the SRG and Telebasel offerings have been coded in this way. Mediapulse is therefore granting the other broadcasters an extension of the deadline until the end of April 2020. All broadcasters that are then encoded can be shown in the online TV data from July 2020. The webTV platforms Teleboy and Wilmaa, Zattoo will also follow in 2020 and will broaden the usage data even further.

First results on online TV usage

Isabelle Waser, the project manager at Mediapulse, presented the first and currently still preliminary usage data for SRG's already coded online offerings. Slightly more men than women use online TV, but women watch longer. There are also differences between the language regions: the reach of online TV is greater in French-speaking Switzerland than in German-speaking Switzerland. Strikingly, just under a third of online TV use takes place outside the home.

In the final Q&A session with the 100 or so participants, the question was also about when the use of online TV will be available to the advertising market. Mediapulse showed itself willing to provide the AGFS Arbeitsgemeinschaft Fernsehwerbung Schweiz with the new data for the TV planning tool at the desired time.

"Brexit, actually": Boris Johnson scores with parody election ads

Shortly before the general election in the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Boris Johnson surprised everyone with an ad inspired by the romantic comedy *Love Actually*. One might almost be impressed—except that, unfortunately, the idea was stolen.

In the post, which circulated furiously via the short messaging service Twitter, Johnson reenacts a key scene: A man confesses his love to a friend's wife with messages on cardboard signs. The film, known in German-speaking countries as "Tatsächlich ... Liebe," was released in 2003.

Johnson makes the scene his own: In the feature, he rings a woman's doorbell at Christmastime and, using messages on signs, asks her to vote for his Conservative Party ("Vote Conservative actually").

One of the signs reads, in reference to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, "The other guy could win." The post, with its Christmas flair, reference to the movie, and a dig at Hugh Grant, who plays the prime minister in the original film, drew much praise in the UK.

Grant is one of Johnson's fiercest critics and supports candidates from opposition parties. He goes door-to-door with them to encourage Britons to vote tactically.

In addition, Grant also had something small to say about Johnson's Love Actually parody:

https://youtu.be/Sh3S_SpV2Fg

The Conservatives are still ahead in the polls. But Johnson cannot be sure of victory because of the majority voting system in Great Britain.

Indeed... stolen

Shortly after Johnson tweeted his post, Labour candidate Rosena Allin-Khan spoke out and accused Johnson of stealing her idea for the election ad. She, too, had imitated the key scene of the love story - but used it to campaign for Labour. Her contribution was already published on November 22.

The British elect their new parliament this Thursday. Johnson currently leads a minority government and wants to secure more support for his Brexit agreement with the new election. (SDA/swi)

CR Basel literally sets breast cancer awareness in motion

"The DEAR Foundation" and Basel-based agency CR Basel implemented full-tram branding for the "DearMamma" prevention campaign.

Tram_Pano_HE

"The DEAR Foundation" relies on an eye-catcher for its "DearMamma" campaign, which starts in Basel and will probably be extended to other cities: Giant letters on a BLT streetcar literally give the topic of breast cancer the size it deserves.

Since December 3, 2019, the streetcar of line 17 has been making the "DearMamma app" known to the public - also with the help of the breast cancer flyers that are on board the streetcar and were also realized by CR Basel.

The breast cancer app "DearMamma" developed by "The DEAR Foundation" is unique to date. Sonja Dinner, president of the private foundation and initiator of the project, says: "Our awareness campaign makes it clear that early detection of breast cancer is vital. Many women believe that an annual visit to the gynecologist is enough. This is not the case. Women are advised to examine their breasts themselves once a month. Our 'DearMamma app', which also offers a read-aloud function of all information, shows how."

The numbers speak for the urgency of the app: every year, 6,000 women and around 60 men are diagnosed with breast cancer. Of these, up to four women die every day in Switzerland. A breast cancer diagnosis cannot be prevented, but early detection can save lives. The campaign aims to contribute to a change in thinking.
