Last but not least: Don't forget to fasten your seat belt

Anyone who does not wear a seatbelt in the car is acting negligently. The Belgian Institute for Road Safety (BIVV) reminds us of this in a campaign.

The show "The Perfect Dinner" is known all over the world. In Belgium, it is called "Komen Eten". On the way home, the candidates rate the evening of the respective host and award a score between one and ten. Seven is a good mark - not perfect, but at least better than no points at all. The Belgian agency Proximity BBDO created the raised index finger. (hae)

Dietschi concentrates on the Olten Tagblatt

In the future, the Dietschi printing company will focus on its core business: publishing the Oltner Tagblatt, Schweiz am Sonntag OT, and Oberbaselbieter Zeitung. Commercial printing operations will be spun off in a management buyout led by CEO Thomas Müller.

The Dietschi Board of Directors has granted the wish of the current CEO, Thomas Müller, to take the plunge into entrepreneurship in order to preserve commercial printing and the approximately 35 jobs it provides at the Olten site. Thomas Müller will take over commercial printing on September 1, 2013 in the form of a management buy-out and continue to run this traditional part of the company independently, as detailed in a press release.

Dietschi Newspaper Printing intends to utilize the existing good cooperation with AZ Medien by integrating the newspaper printing employees into the employee pool of Mittelland Zeitungsdruck. This measure will have no impact on the Olten printing site, but will enable more flexible deployment of personnel resources within the production of the newspaper network Die Nordwestschweiz.

By concentrating on its core business, the printing company's flagship publication, the Oltner Tagblatt, is to be further strengthened, the press release continues. The Oltner Tagblatt is published both as a print edition and in electronic form as a web newspaper for the Olten-Gösgen-Thal-Gäu region and currently reaches 40,000 readers.

Sackgeldjobs-Börse receives the "Prix Génération"

On March 20, 2013, the «Prix Génération» was awarded for the first time. The award recognized the project that most innovatively supports collaboration between young and old and has a lasting and positive social impact. The winner was the «Sackgeldjobs-Börse.».

In December 2012, the Axa Foundation Generation Dialogue, together with Hub Zurich and the support of the magazine Schweizer Familie, launched the "Prix Génération" - a funding program for intergenerational initiatives and entrepreneurial concepts. After a pre-selection of all projects submitted by February 28 by the Axa Foundation Generation Dialogue and Hub Zurich, the seven finalists presented their ideas to the jury, which included Kurt Aeschbacher, on March 20, 2013.

According to the press release, Mich Wyser and Michi Kessler came out on top with their "Sackgeldjobs-Börse" project. The project convinced the jury because it meets a social need, offers young people an opportunity to take on responsibility and promotes interaction between young and old. "The online platform 'Sackgeldjobs-Börse' arranges sack money jobs from adults and older people to young people who are not working. This enables contact between adults and young people that would otherwise not take place. In addition, the pocket money jobs encourage young people to handle money responsibly," says jury member Regula Schenkel, explaining the decision. Winner Mich Wyser was completely surprised and was lost for words after the award ceremony: "I would never have expected to win the Prix Génération and am overjoyed that we can now implement the Sackgeldjobs exchange with the support of the Axa Foundation Generation Dialogue and the HUB."

The winners of the "Prix Génération" receive the exclusive title of "Hub Fellow", access to the Hub's workspace and infrastructure, active use of the Hub network and twelve months of support in the implementation of their project with a total value of over CHF 50,000.

Tamedia's profit falls by 15 percent - paywall coming in 2014

Last year, the media group Tamedia earned 15 percent less than the year before. Nevertheless, the company’s top management is satisfied with the profit of 152 million Swiss francs. What is causing them concern, however, is that more and more people are reading the news on mobile devices.

Speaking to the media in Zurich on Thursday, Chairman of the Board of Directors Pietro Supino spoke of a "challenging financial year". Despite the decline, the company is proud: "With a result of 152 million francs and a margin of 14 percent, 2012 was also a good year for us financially." Operating income before taxes (EBIT) amounted to CHF 143 million, 20.9 per cent lower than in 2011, while sales fell by 5.8 per cent to CHF 1.052 billion. However, a year ago Tamedia reported the best annual result in the company's history with 178.8 million francs. Shareholders are to receive a dividend of CHF 4.50 per share. In the previous year, a dividend of 5.75 francs was distributed.

Paywall for the Tages-Anzeiger from December

As Martin Kall's successor, Christoph Tonini presented the figures for the first time in his role as CEO. Sales of regional newspapers fell particularly sharply: by 11.6 percent. The main reason for this was advertising revenue, which fell by 9 percent to 484 million francs. Tonini called it a "historic mark" that in 2012, for the first time, less than half (49 percent) of total advertising expenditure in Switzerland went to print media, the company's core business.

As advertising is migrating online, Tamedia is getting serious about the paywall in 2013. In December, the paywall model is initially introduced for the Tages-Anzeiger. Based on the experience with the pilot project, all regional and Sunday newspapers will follow in 2014: from the Berner Zeitung to the Thuner Tagblatt and the Zürichsee-Zeitung to 24 Heures and the Sonntagszeitung.

According to Tonini, the so-called metered model will be used for the Tages-Anzeiger, as is the case with the New York Times or the NZZ, for example: The payment barrier only appears after a certain number of articles. This model, which is based on the frequency of use, contrasts with the premium model, which is based on content and offers certain articles free of charge, while others are only available for a fee.

The third variant, the hard paywall, does not recognize free texts at all. Tamedia intends to examine which model will be used for each medium individually. 20 Minuten online, on the other hand, will remain free. The print and online editorial teams of 20 Minuten and Tages-Anzeiger are currently being merged into convergent editorial teams.

Digital business construction site

The digital business with online media such as news sites, housing and job platforms is proving to be a construction site for Tamedia. Although this area increased sales slightly by 2.7 per cent, the operating result before depreciation and amortization fell by over 50 per cent. "The big disappointment in 2012" in the digital business for Tamedia CEO Tonini is the marketing of display ads. The new Digital Advertising & Services division will therefore be created on April 1. In addition to traditional display advertising, new advertising offers are to be created.

"The share of mobile traffic is exploding, and that is our problem," said Tonini. This is because there is currently hardly any revenue to be made from mobile use. At 20 Minuten online, traffic from mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets already accounts for 60 percent of total online usage. National print titles were less affected by the decline than regional newspapers and the digital business: commuter newspapers, weekly newspapers and magazines. Sales here fell by 6.3 percent.

Goldbach Mobile creates Hannes Schmid Apps

For the current retrospective «Hannes Schmid – Real Stories,» Goldbach Mobile designed a virtual exhibition and a digital exhibition guide.

Hannes Schmid's first major survey exhibition, currently on view at the Bern Art Museum, is an impressive testimony to his creative output: "Real Stories" shows over 150 works created since the 1970s. A curated part of the exhibition is currently also on view at Zurich Airport.

With the smartphone app "Hannes Schmid Exhibition 2013" developed by Goldbach Mobile, interested parties can scan the QR codes placed at the exhibition venues - and thus access additional information about the works on display online. The current app is designed for the exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Bern and Zurich Airport; adaptations for other locations such as Beijing are planned, according to a statement.

The app "Hannes Schmid - Real Stories HD" for iPhone and iPad is more than just a digital exhibition companion. With lots of background knowledge, additional images and videos, it is a virtual exhibition per se, a museum in 3D - especially one that can be visited outside opening hours. The combination of classical art and digital application, which seems contradictory at first glance, turns out to be highly exciting, Goldbach writes. It is thanks to the artist's openness and commitment that visitors can experience his "Real Stories" everywhere via smartphone and tablet.

The iPhone and iPad app "Hannes Schmid - Real Stories HD" and the smartphone app "Hannes Schmid Exhibition 2013" (iPhone and Android) are available free of charge. All content has been translated into eight languages and is available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and Russian.

Responsible at Goldbach Mobile: Frank Lang (overall responsibility), Andrea Dätwiler (project management and consulting), Ramona Vincenti, Roland Michelberger, Albrik Dürsteler, Marco Wettstein (implementation), Fabian Bürgy (design).

CS2: International platform for Ems Group

CS2 spent six months developing a comprehensive platform based on Typo3 for the Ems Group. The Ems Group's new international website has been online since the end of January.

Aim of the new website According to a press release, the aim was to do justice to the image of the EMS Group in terms of content and appearance. Great importance was attached to news and up-to-date information. These were to be made available to specific target groups in the relevant areas as well as in the respective countries. The content must be easy to find and clearly presented. Another important criterion for the new website was the ability to make contact quickly.

Implementation

The focus of the entire project team was on simple and centralized editing of the extensive platform. For this reason, the entire site was implemented in a single Typo3 installation. Several functions and content access centralized data in order to eliminate redundant maintenance. Functions such as the jobs module allow the editorial team to enter vacancies for the respective country and location. The various templates and styles were also all created centrally, allowing enormous flexibility in page creation on the one hand and automatic compliance with CI/CD specifications on the other.

A download extension, which allows documents to be downloaded directly or ordered by post or e-mail, is intended to offer added value for customers. Whether as a customer, supplier or job seeker - thanks to numerous "call-to-action" elements, website visitors are able to get in touch with the right people at the Ems Group at any time. The advantage of this solution is the expandability of the international website. Any number of languages as well as company and product pages can be created.

Technology

The international platform was realized with Typo3, the leading open source enterprise content management system. Special modules and an editorial system ensure efficient content management. SOLR, an open source search platform based on Apache Lucene, was used as a high-performance search engine. In this project, CS2 was responsible for conception, design development, engineering, implementation, training/launch, hosting and operation.

At the Corso movie theater in St. Gallen, advertisers can now place movie theater ads exclusively through Publicitas Cinecom for the film «Himmelfahrtskommando.».

The new Swiss film "Himmelfahrtskommando" opens in cinemas in German-speaking Switzerland tonight. Publicitas Cinecom supports the special project "Himmelfahrtskommando im Kino Corso" and markets the advertising space exclusively and on favorable terms. Advertisers can book the entire duration of at least eight weeks at an attractive fixed price and thus convey their advertising message under exceptional conditions, as detailed in a press release.

Media Monitor Switzerland launched

Swissdox, in partnership with Adwired and Eurospider, is launching a new electronic media monitoring suite. Thanks to Medienmonitor Schweiz, customers can find out what local media professionals are writing about their company, their topics, and their brands.

Medienmonitor Schweiz gives customers access to the 150 most important national print titles and the most relevant feeds from the Swiss online media.
