DPA Infographics Award 2013 announced

The DPA Group is once again seeking the best infographic designers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. This marks the sixth time it has announced the DPA Infographic Award.

The prize is awarded in three categories: daily infographics, non-daily infographics and interactive infographics. The DPA writes this in a press release on Presseportal.ch. All works that have been planned and created within just one day are considered up-to-date. The prize is awarded by DPA-Infografik in cooperation with DPA-Infocom. Both companies are subsidiaries of DPA Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

The competition is open to freelance graphic artists, designers and designers as well as employees of newspapers, magazines, graphic design and news agencies. The submitted works must have been published between September 30, 2012 and September 15, 2013. There is an exception for interactive infographics, which do not have to be published to be accepted as a competition entry. However, they should have a current reference. This change to the conditions of participation means that, for the first time, students now also have the opportunity to apply for the DPA Infographics Award.

The closing date for entries in all categories is September 30, 2013, and an expert jury will decide on the winners and runners-up in October 2013 - three winners are planned in each of the three categories. According to the press release, the criteria for the decision will include the question of whether the submitted graphics are convincing in terms of clarity, readability and aesthetics, both graphically and in terms of content. Applicants in the Interactive Infographics category can apply by sending an e-mail with a link or by sending a CD or USB stick by post.

Switzerland Tourism heralds the Year of Traditions

On Monday, Switzerland Tourism unveiled its new summer campaign. At the heart of the campaign, created by Leo Burnett Switzerland, are a video featuring Sebi & Paul and packed with flag-wavers, yodlers, and folk dancers, as well as an online flag-waving challenge.

The campaign is all about Swiss traditions. "With us, history is not only written, but also lived," says Jürg Schmid, director of Switzerland Tourism. The tourism organization wants to bring these genuine traditions closer to potential vacationers this summer, according to a statement.

For this purpose, the two mountain men Sebi & Paul will again be used. According to Schmid, they are extremely popular at home and abroad and stand for Swiss authenticity. In the latest spot, Sebi & Paul get a visit from abroad - from two Australian friends. They go into the mountains with them and experience a wealth of Swiss traditions.

For the realization of the spot, Leo Burnett Switzerland and director Michael Fueter were able to recruit a wealth of flag-wavers, traditional costume groups, yodelers and Swiss folk musicians. Among others, the two top swingers Martin Grab (Unspunnen winner 2006) and Roger Brügger (81 wreaths) play a part. Traditional costume groups from various regions of Switzerland will show traditions such as the "Mühlirad" (in which the men dance in a circle, with every second one almost lying on the ground) or the Appenzell "Hierig" dance, which shows the course of love. The Schwyzerörgel duo Mosibuabä, the alphorn trio Chrystal and the Ländler quintet Berna-Grischa will also be performing. The music is just as traditional: the Uri duo Robi and Bärti sing the folk song "Zoge am Boge" - supported by the well-known yodeler Nadja Räss, among others.

"The film," says Peter Brönnimann, ECD at Leo Burnett Switzerland, "shows in images and sound on the one hand the diversity of Swiss customs, while at the same time telling a story. "

Switzerland Tourism also celebrates customs online. In addition to a wealth of information on events, there are also MySwitzerland.com now also offers a flag-waving game. The age-old tradition can now also be experienced interactively and virtually. Users can swing their flag into the sky above a panoramic image. They can choose from 22 different swings - from a leg throw to a pilatush. Online flag wavers can win the most Swiss of vacations, including alphorn blowing, visits to cheese dairies and stays in appropriately traditional hotels.

The new brochure "100 Traditions & Customs. Echt Schweiz." (100 Traditions & Customs. Real Switzerland), which Switzerland Tourism has produced together with UBS and which is available free of charge at all UBS offices and as an e-brochure on the MySwitzerland iPad app in the iTunes Store.

Publix designs information campaign for addiction clinic

The Im Hasel Addiction Clinic has developed a new eight-week intensive therapy program. To raise awareness of this program among those affected and their primary care physicians, Publix has launched an information campaign for the clinic.

The campaign, initially in the canton of Aargau, includes posters, advertisements, mailings to doctors' surgeries and a separate Website. A public campaign is rather unusual for addiction clinics, the agency said in a statement on Monday. Normally, the route to an addiction clinic is via a referrer, for example the family doctor. With the new short-term therapy, the Im Hasel clinic wants to encourage those affected to contact the clinic directly without any time-consuming detours and to find out without obligation whether the eight-week intensive therapy is suitable for them or whether another treatment is appropriate.

The information campaign of the Im Hasel clinic is not an anti-drug campaign, the agency continues. Rather, it focuses on the benefits of a life free of addiction: Preserving family structures, intact relationships with life partners, maintaining employment. Addicts who are socially and professionally integrated should receive help before irreparable damage is done. In order for them to make use of this offer, the threshold for contacting the specialists must be set as low as possible. In addition, the service must be well known. It is therefore essential to present the addiction clinic's new short-term therapy to a broad public and to get the message across clearly in text and images.

Process positioned law firm

A young law firm wants to break with the classic image and stand for a new generation of lawyers. Process has designed a visual identity for this vision.

Rappold Köhli is a new, specialized law firm in the heart of Zurich. Since the beginning of April 2013, Oliver Rappold and Simone Köhli Müller have been advising national and international clients from here. Based on their values and ideas, the Process agency developed a brand strategy and positioning for the law firm and designed the entire new appearance.

According to the agency's statement, the communicative guiding idea is: "We form the framework, you are at the center". This determines the design and in particular the type mark, for which an outline font was chosen. Graphic and typographic animations on the website, which is designed in responsive web design, also take up the central idea.

Rose star: New appearance for Ottiger vineyard

The new bottles from Weinbau Ottiger in Kastanienbaum near Lucerne feature the «Ottiger O» logo. The Rosenstar agency is responsible for this and for the winery’s entire rebranding.

The overall concept is intended to focus on the company's values. "Simple, clear, independent": this is how the agency describes Weinbau Ottiger's communications presence. This embodies down-to-earthness and openness, straightforwardness and attention to detail at the same time.

The resulting logo, the "Ottiger O," is intended to be omnipresent as a trademark, but is used variably: It appears on the labels in eight variants that provide information about the respective wine type. A color code indicates the grape varieties.

The new image encompasses all means of communication: from wine labels to signage, vehicle lettering and stationery, to the Website and a new brochure. The latter were implemented in cooperation with the text agency Trollhauser.

SRG closes with deficit of 117 million francs

SRG closed the 2012 fiscal year with a deficit of 117 million Swiss francs. This was attributed to one-time factors.

Director General Roger de Weck already made this clear last Sunday in a Interview with the Sonntagszeitung to the public. As SRG announced on Monday, provisions for pension fund benefits amounting to 160 million had led to a loss. This will make it possible to reduce the technical interest rate as early as 2014 and switch to a modern defined contribution plan.

SRG (excluding subsidiaries) generated revenue of CHF 1.6 billion in 2012 and recorded a deficit of CHF 117 million after the special effect of the one-off provision of CHF 160 million for the modernization of the PKS pension fund. Thanks to an agreement between the employer and employee sides on the pension fund's Board of Trustees, the switch from a defined benefit to a defined contribution plan for the PKS can be completed at the beginning of 2014 - subject to a yes vote in the ballot of insured persons, SRG continued in the press release.

A large part of the CHF 160 million was spent on the reduction in the technical interest rate from 4% to 3.25%, which experts believe is essential to avoid a funding gap. On the other hand, provisions of CHF 17 million were released for the risk of restructuring the pension fund, as its coverage ratio exceeds 100 percent. The sale of the SRG headquarters on Giacomettistrasse in Bern also improved the annual result: according to the press release, SRG only intends to remain the owner of properties where complex technical production facilities are located: "More radio and TV, less concrete" is the guiding principle.

Operating income fell slightly by CHF 10 million to CHF 1,635 million. The decline in advertising revenue could not be offset by the slight increase in income from reception fees. The higher expenditure for programming and production - caused in particular by the extremely costly Summer Olympics and the European Football Championships - was offset by strict cost management and efficiency programs, according to the press release.

SRG does not expect any major special effects in 2013. The annual report (annual report and accounts) will be submitted to the SRG Delegates' Meeting on April 26, 2013 for approval. In the digital age and for cost-saving reasons, the annual report will be published online, according to SRG. From April 29, 2013, it will be available at Srgssr.ch can be viewed.
