Mörgeli: SRF denies Weltwoche investigation

Die Weltwoche claims to know the identity of the anonymous source who accused Christoph Mörgeli in *Rundschau*. SRF denies this and states that the report is false.

Weltwoche journalist Alex Baur announced today via Twitter that Weltwoche knows the anonymous informant of the "Rundschau". This was a dentist "who had failed as a doctoral student with Mörgeli". In an advance report of Thursday's edition, Weltwoche also accuses SRF of misquoting an informant.

According to SRF, however, the exposed dentist is not the person who revealed details about Mörgeli's practices in doctoral supervision in the said article. "Rundschau"-Moderator Sandro Brotz also reacted via Twitter, announcing that Weltwoche had outed "the wrong guy." In a statement on Wednesday afternoon, Swiss Television writes:

1. it is not true that Weltwoche has located the anonymous informant who appeared as a key witness in the "Rundschau". The "Rundschau" states this decidedly. The person who testified anonymously in the "Rundschau" is definitely not the dentist named by the "Weltwoche". The "Rundschau" has never contacted this person. The "Rundschau" takes note of the attempted disclosure of the identity of the witness. At the same time, we note that the protection of sources was and remains granted by "Rundschau".

2 The "Rundschau" also states that a second witness was quoted correctly - contrary to the representation in Weltwoche. The "Rundschau" rejects these and all other insinuations in all form. We continue to adhere to our reporting.

SRF News Online also introduced a Interview with SRF journalist Marc Meschenmoser, who works for the "Rundschau" has set the discussion about Christoph Mörgeli's transcription doctoral thesis rolling. The real SRF witness has a very high credibility, he said, because he incriminates himself with the statements against Mörgeli. "With the attempted unmasking, the reprisals threatening the informant are just proven."

Opposite Tages-Anzeiger/Newsnet Weltwoche author Baur sticks to the allegations. In addition to the silhouette of a shadow that someone had recognized, he said, there were several indications and sources. Testimony against testimony - how the case will continue, will be shown on Thursday at the media conference called by Mörgeli. (hae)

Data protection officer warns against social media

The use of Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp is not without its pitfalls for the administration. Markus Siegenthaler, Bern's data protection officer, draws attention to this in his 2012 annual report.

Siegenthaler admits in his report published on Wednesday that it is important for the state to be able to reach its citizens via the new communication channels. However, the new technology is associated with risks that the authorities are not always aware of. For example, no major investments or special project organizations are required for the use of Twitter and Facebook. "The usual control and support mechanisms for IT projects, such as a prior check by the data protection supervisory authority, are therefore not effective." Judicial authorities have also called on the administration to think more about the right approach to new media.

Problematic photos

Photos of data subjects or employees on a Facebook subpage, for example, could be problematic from a data protection perspective. This is because it involves the disclosure of personal data abroad, for which there is no sufficient legal basis. According to Siegenthaler, the fact that the providers of the well-known social networks are domiciled abroad creates additional problems. Enforcing the law is made more difficult in advance.

The supervisory body considers the professional use of the instant messenger Whatsapp by employees of social services to be unlawful. "In addition to the cell phone contact list, WhatsApp messages are also stored on foreign servers." They are also easy to intercept in wireless networks. (SDA)

Last but not least: The king enjoys the cucumber square

King Rogi is training on the world's "Ibex Butt" and enjoying the peace and quiet of Graubünden. However, he didn't count on the investigative reporting by Blick Online.

Only "five noses" would be watching the "tennis god" while he prepares for the clay court season in the "Bündner Ruhe", knows Blick.ch. In a "cucumber patch", of course. He puts up with it because "he enjoys the anonymity of the Rhine". Five spectators, the occasional walker - you might begrudge it to the only Swiss world star.

So far, so good. Federer posted a picture of his intimate solitude on Facebook. "However, the tennis king does not reveal where this snapshot was taken," Blick.ch correctly notes. Perhaps because he liked the seclusion away from the everyday hustle and bustle. No matter. "Blick.ch did some quick research" and tracked down an expert from Chur who recognized the spot. It's the Felsberg tennis court - who doesn't know it? Or rather, who didn't know it. So that every fan can find the secret Federer nest straight away, the map was included.

The article itself poses the question of all questions: "It is unclear whether King Roger will continue to play his balls in Graubünden." The king is unmasked - long live the king! (hae)
