Büro Troxler: New website

For the past three years, the Lucerne-based agency Büro Troxler has been developing ideas for clients such as the City of Lucerne, Trisa Electronics, and Knutwiler Mineral Water. It’s time for a website redesign.

According to a press release, emphasis was placed on the link to Central Switzerland. But also a creative additional feature. The Website surprises with a day and night mode. The cover image automatically adapts to the time of day.

Last but not least: Oops, that's me

Photoshop can do everything. For example, integrating bus passengers waiting in real time into poster subjects.

This is what happened a few days ago in Stockholm. To celebrate the online event "Creative Day", Adobe used a bus station as the starting point for the viral "Street Retouch Prank" campaign. Photographer and retoucher Erik Johansson, one of the twelve speakers, integrated secretly taken photos of waiting bus passengers into the Creative Day display in the bus shelter. Big eyes and amusement are pre-programmed - and almost ten million clicks in three days are the result. (hae)

New CLA for the graphic arts industry

Employees in the graphic arts industry will receive a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The new CBA will take effect on July 1, 2013, and will be declared generally binding as soon as possible. In addition, minimum wages will be increased.

Seven rounds of negotiations between the unions and the business association Viscom preceded the negotiated compromise. The Syndicom trade union wrote this in a communiqué on Friday. The Swiss Association for Visual Communication Viscom has also already agreed, as it informed the news agency SDA on request.

According to the Syndicom press release, the introduction of the declaration of general applicability (AVE), which will now be applied for from the Federal Council as soon as possible, was decisive for the broad approval of the union members from the graphic arts industry. This is the culmination of over 20 years of union struggle. Further successes for Syndicom and Syna include the increase in minimum wages by 200 francs for unskilled workers (excluding bookbinders) to 3,800 francs and to 4,200 francs for apprentices. In future, apprentices will be guaranteed a 13th month's pay and wages in the 1st and 2nd year of apprenticeship will increase by 50 francs. The 40-hour week and night work bonuses in newspaper printing plants were also defended.

This is the first time in recent CLA history that the introduction of the 42-hour week for an industrial sector has been laid down in a CLA, writes Viscom in a statement sent to SDA at its request.

Binding wages for all

With the declaration of general applicability AVE, the negotiated minimum wages are also prescribed for companies that do not adhere to the agreement. The trade unions had to make concessions for companies that do not print newspapers. Here, the surcharges for night work can be reduced from the previous 70 percent to up to 50 percent. However, the principle of grandfathering also applies here: income reductions associated with the reduction in bonuses must be offset by an increase in basic wages or a monthly compensation payment. In addition, companies that do not print newspapers will in future be able to increase their working week to 42 hours in exceptional cases - and in consultation with the workforce.

With these compromises, the unions are demonstrating their understanding for the difficult situation in the printing industry, which is partly due to technological developments, partly due to globalization and partly due to the strong Swiss franc, Syndicom continued in the communiqué. At the same time, Syndicom and Syna reaffirmed their view that the structural crisis must be countered with measures other than extending working hours, which would only further increase overcapacity in the graphic arts industry.

"Nothing" won

The Swiss Media Association’s «Nothing» category marketing campaign for online branding continues. The reveal featuring the contest winners begins on Monday.

for online branding enters the next round. The resolution campaign is online from Monday to Friday, with places allocated by lot.

In addition to the internet brand Local.ch, the three classic brands Volvo Switzerland, Mobilezone and Migrosbank as well as a smaller provider of office furniture, Me-first.ch, have also won, as the Swiss Media Association and the agency responsible, Comqed Dialog, revealed on Sunday. The five brands will each receive banner space worth CHF 100,000 and their online advertising will be featured on news sites this week. The winners themselves provided the relevant subjects; Migrosbank even integrated the nothing subject into its landing page.

25,000 clicks, 400 participants in the competition

The aim of the campaign was to demonstrate the effectiveness of online branding. Advertising on the internet is still primarily judged by its performance and is therefore often limited to sales campaigns. With "Nothing", the Swiss Media Association wanted to prove that the online medium is just as suitable for branding purposes. The message was that online advertising is also not seen as action-oriented per se.

"And 'Nothing' was seen," say the campaign managers happily. Over 25,000 users clicked on the simple images, which were displayed as banners on the news sites of the major publishing houses for a week, to find out what "Nothing" was all about.

. 16% of those contacted responded to the mailing and took part in the competition for the resolution campaign. The conclusion of the campaign managers: "Advertising on the Internet is seen. Even if it is not response-oriented."

Last but not least: Popp makes it rain headlines

Media artist Julius Popp has created an art installation that takes news headlines and causes them to “rain” down onto the cobblestones in liquid form. The words are formed within the installation’s curtain of water.

How does it work? Julius Popp has programmed a computer to search local newspapers for headlines. These then literally fall from the sky. As Popp explains Bernese Newspaper explains, the installation is intended to create the effect that the viewer can no longer keep up with reading. Because in today's world, people are confronted with floods of information that have already lost their meaning the next day.

The "bit.fall installation" is located in front of the Rigassi Gallery in Bern's Münstergasse. It can be admired until July 20. (uma)

Compresso: National campaign for Rheumatism League

When they hurt, everyday life becomes a struggle: our hands, our most important tools. Compresso planned and implemented the Swiss Rheumatism League’s national awareness campaign, «Lueg dine Händ!».

Ariella Käslin, Sabina Schneebeli, Marco Wölfli, Meta Hiltebrand, Bea Petri and Nils Althaus were brought on board as celebrity supporters. With an unusual photo series, a charity auction, a viral handshake and information days, Compresso is working with the Rheumaliga Switzerland hands in the center of interest.

Rheumatism is the number one widespread disease in Switzerland, affecting one in five people. Rheumatic diseases in the hands in particular severely restrict everyday life. This is why the Rheumaliga Schweiz is focusing on painful hands in 2013. Compresso supported the non-profit organization and developed the nationwide awareness campaign "Lueg dine Händ!". The centerpiece is a photo series by Geri Krischker featuring six prominent personalities who were recruited as official Rheumaliga ambassadors for 2013. All six are aware of how valuable their hands are for their success - they wear a red glove as a symbol of this in the campaign pictures: world gymnastics runner-up Ariella Käslin, actress Sabina Schneebeli, national football goalie Marco Wölfli, celebrity chef Meta Hiltebrand, make-up artist and Entrepreneur of the Year 2012/13 Bea Petri and actor and musician Nils Althaus. The latter sums up his commitment: "My mouth makes the punchlines, but my hands set the tone - with the guitar." And Ariella Käslin confirms: "I love my hands. They combine power and elegance."

Hands-on: photo auction, viral handshake and the national campaign week

Words are followed by deeds: On the national campaign day on September 2, 2013, the Rheumaliga Switzerland will present the exclusive portraits at Zurich main station in the presence of the ambassadors, which can then be purchased at auction on Ricardo. In addition, the red glove will be doing the rounds: equipped with this, the ambassadors will give a Rheumaliga handprint to personalities in their environment and post a picture of it on their Facebook account or website. The public is encouraged to imitate this symbolic gesture.

The campaign aims to raise public awareness and provides valuable tips for those affected. Visitors will receive expert advice on the campaign day at Zurich main station and at the public health days from August 31 to September 6, 2013 in Neuchâtel, Zurich, Basel, Bern, St. Gallen, Lucerne, Zug, Weinfelden, Schinznach and Zurzach.

Responsible at Compresso: Andreas Schelbert (consulting and conception), Suzanne Nievergelt (public relations). Responsible at the Rheumaliga Schweiz: Monika Siber (Public Relations & Projects), Andrea Gerfin (Head of Communications). Photographer: Geri Krischker.

NZZ am Sonntag plans redesign

The NZZ am Sonntag has begun work on a comprehensive redesign. The goal is to maintain and strengthen its position in the highly competitive Sunday newspaper market.

The aim is to provide readers with an even more attractive product in the second half of the year with a newspaper that has been renewed both visually and in terms of content, according to an NZZ release on Friday. Simon Esterson and Mark Porter will again be responsible for the design. They were already responsible for the original design of the NZZ am Sonntag as well as for a first, smaller redesign five years ago. A year ago, this - along with the newspaper as a whole - won the "European Newspaper of the Year" award in the weekly newspaper category.

In the area of graphics, the NZZ am Sonntag can now count on the conceptual advice of Michael Robinson, who comes from the Guardian school and has done groundbreaking work there. For Editor-in-Chief Felix E. Müller, the significance of this redesign is clear: "We're making the newspaper fit for the next few years."

The launch of the new newspaper is supported by an advertising campaign by the Jung von Matt agency.

"Share a Coca-Cola": Helping to shape commercials digitally

Billed as the largest personalized brand campaign, «Share a Coca-Cola» is currently on display on APG’s eBoards at Switzerland’s largest train stations. The main attraction is the opportunity to interactively help design the commercials shown on the digital billboards.

"Would you like to make the name of your beloved public in huge letters?": Currently, station passers-by in Zurich HB, Bern, Basel, Lausanne and Geneva are being asked by the sender Coca-Cola via eBoard spot to send their own name or that of another person by e-mail to a target address. A short time later, this name appears on the Coca-Cola can integrated into the eBoard spot.

This interactivity is made possible by the so-called Webupload, a technical facility provided by APG. Thanks to specially programmed server access, customized and individual spot content can be broadcast on an ongoing basis.
