Serviceplan: Travel compensation for Oprah

Serviceplan has come up with an advertising campaign for Stöckli Outdoor Sports to win over Oprah Winfrey, a victim of the Täschligate scandal, and cast Swiss hospitality in a more favorable light.

With a banner on various News portals the U.S. talk show host will be offered the traditional travel allowance that Stöckli grants to all customers who come from afar. However, the travel allowance is only one of many benefits to be enjoyed here: courteous and competent advice, a huge selection of quality products - including bags, of course - as well as in-depth know-how in the outdoor sports sector make a visit to Stöckli a pleasurable experience.
Serviceplan Suisse and Plan.net are responsible for conception and implementation.

"Rundschau" ready to take off for new era

With a new studio and new technical features, «Rundschau» is ready for the future of television. Starting August 21, 2013, lead host Sandro Brotz will interview studio guests at the “Heisse Theke.” Susanne Wille joins the team.

The new décor of the political magazine of Swiss Radio and Television forms a stylish unit of wood and concrete elements, complemented by an LED panorama, according to a statement. The linchpin of the new design, which is made up of 760 individual parts, is the moderation counter - in the shape of the letter R. Thus, the Heisse Stuhl (hot chair) now becomes the Heisse Theke (hot counter).

As a new feature, "Rundschau" also uses augmented reality: This involves integrating graphic elements into the TV pictures, which are elaborately produced 3D graphics and animations. They make complex topics more understandable to the audience.

In terms of content, "Rundschau" is focusing even more on revelations. "We want to position ourselves with persistent research and surprising reports," explains editorial director Mario Poletti. At the hot bar, presenter Sandro Brotz will grill his guests - as he did before at the hot chair. "I will be uncomfortable, but fair," says Brotz. His replacement will be Susanne Wille, who also does guided reports.

With the biggest renovation in its 40-year history, the political magazine is ushering in a new era. Severine Waibel (Art Director Information and Culture SRF) and set designer René Jauch are responsible for the new design.

Last but not least: Made in Swissland

After the Badi and Täschli gate incidents, some good news at last: A Russian design student has invented Helvetica beer—inspired by the font and the country. Swiss-made!

Alexander Kischenko is a student at the British Higher School of Art and Design. Faced with the task of designing packaging that uses only typography, he created Helvetica Beer - based on the classic typeface of the same name. The large number indicates the alcohol content (three, six, and nine percent by volume), and the can color indicates the type of beer: lager silver, stout black.

So far, so good. The design is worth seeing - but there could have been far more thankless fonts as a basis (imagine a Comic Sans beer...). Before a possible market launch, the young man should still revise certain details. For example, the brew is inscribed "Made in Swissland" and the Swiss cross shines through misproportion. Cheers! Eight out of ten online users surf daily

The Internet has become part of everyday life for Swiss men and women: The proportion of heavy users has risen over the past 10 years from less than one-third to more than two-thirds today. This is shown by the Net-Metrix-Base 2013-1 study.

Using the Internet is part of everyday life for most Swiss people, whether for private purposes or in the work environment. This is confirmed by the latest Net-Metrix-Base study: 85 percent of the resident population of Switzerland and Liechtenstein have used the Internet in the last six months, and 79 percent or around five million even surf the Web several times a week or more.

While the proportion of offliners is slowly leveling off at around 15 percent after a continuous decline (2010: 17.6 percent offliners), constant growth is still evident among the group of heavy users: from 3.8 million users who use the Internet daily or almost daily in 2010 to 4.4 million in the current year. A typical heavy user is male, between 20 and 50 years old, has a higher school education and works in a more urban environment. He uses between 2 and 3 devices for his Internet consumption and surfs from home, but also while on the move. The heavy user uses the Internet primarily to receive and send e-mails (95.1 percent), to obtain information via search engines (94.4 percent) and to retrieve daily news (78.8 percent).

The typical offliner, on the other hand, is female, over 60 years old, has a compulsory school education and is retired. In general, the proportion of women in the online community is still lower at 81.3 percent than that of men at 88.9 percent.

The proportion of heavy users varies greatly from one economic area to another. The economic areas of Zurich, Basel and Zug have the largest proportion of heavy users, accounting for around three quarters of the resident population. In contrast, less than 60 percent of the population in Ticino, the Bernese Oberland and the Upper Valais can be counted as heavy users.

Switch: Young web talents wanted

The website contest for school classes kicks off on Monday for the eighth time. Switch is looking for school classes that, together with their teachers, would like to explore the possibilities of the World Wide Web and design their own website.

The success story of the Junior Web Awards began in 2007, when Switch launched the competition to mark its 20th anniversary. The aim is to promote Internet and media skills among the younger generation. Since then, over 2000 school classes have registered for the competition.

Pupils design their own website

Participating school classes can design and publish their own website free of charge. In doing so, they practise using modern communication technologies in a fun way. Whether humorous, with a learning effect or completely personal - the school classes decide together on a topic and the implementation on the Internet. As a Swiss Internet pioneer, Switch aims to promote knowledge of the World Wide Web and familiarity with this medium among young people. The generation of tomorrow should be given the opportunity to get to grips with modern technologies. All school classes from Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein at elementary school, lower secondary school and upper secondary school level can now take part.

Easy participation - exciting projects

After registering at Juniorwebaward.ch Switch accompanies the participating school classes and their teachers with information material and offers two CMS programs to design the website. The classes can familiarize themselves with the web topic and then independently create a website on the topic of their choice. The deadline for submitting projects is March 12, 2014, followed by a public vote and evaluation of the websites by a professional jury. The best three projects in the three age categories of primary school, lower secondary school and upper secondary school will be chosen. The winning classes will be honored at the awards ceremony on 22 May 2014 at the Kongresshaus. Moderation: Katja Reichenstein.

Maybaum Film: Myths filmed for Victorinox

Following the huge success of the film «The Exchange» from the Swiss Myths trilogy, the Baden-based production company Maybaum Film was once again commissioned by Victorinox Swiss Army to bring ancient Swiss myths to life.

Where the first part took up the story of Heidi and Alpöhi, the second film is devoted to another, equally well-known Swiss myth. Under the name "The Bet", the story of William Tell and Walter was reinterpreted.

Based on the script by Victorinox Swiss Army, the emotional story of father and son was filmed against the backdrop of the Bernese Oberland. Walter, in the meantime a gifted sport archer, is challenged by Wilhelm to a competition, crossbow against bow. Who emerges as the winner in the end shall not be revealed at this point.

The natural postcard beauty with mountains and lakes as well as two down-to-earth actors serve as likeable ambassadors for Switzerland in the online campaign launched worldwide. Particular attention was paid to ensuring that the second film also fits harmoniously into the film trilogy. Planning for the third part has already begun.

Responsible at Victorinox Swiss Army: Sébastien Rytz, Jonathan Keller. Responsible at Maybaum Film: Laurent Ulrich (director), Michel Frutig (production manager), Daniel Steffen (camera), Julien Humbert-Droz (camera assistant), Dino Hächler (editor), Patrischa Freuler (color grading), Philipp Arber (music).
