Unique breaks new ground

On the Öpfelchüchliweg, Unikat—in collaboration with the Swiss Fruit Association and the Grindelwald Männlichenbahnen—has created an adventure trail designed to inspire lasting enthusiasm, especially among families with children.

Grindelwald not only offers a spectacular mountain panorama with views of the world-famous north face of the Eiger, the popular vacation resort in the Jungfrau region also has a large network of hiking trails. One of these hiking trails, which has over 10,000 ascents per season, is the "Öpfelchüechliweg", which connects the middle station of the Männlichen cable car with the intermediate station Brandegg of the Jungfrau Railway. This trail, which is aimed at families, was reopened last week and has two prominent companions: Barry, the Bernese mountain dog, and Hans, the cheeky goose, accompany the hiking family over five stations from Holenstein to Brandegg.

A funny radio play, which was specially designed for this adventure trail, tells you a lot about the significance of the apple and the surrounding area. The short stories can be listened to at the individual stations using a cell phone. These stations also offer lots of interesting facts about the apple, which can be learned through play. Together with the Erlebnisplan agency, five informative boards have been created, which provide amazing facts about apples and invite you to play, until you can enjoy delicious Öpfelchüechli (the trail's namesake) in the Brandegg restaurant at the end of the entertaining journey. The Swiss Fruit Association, together with Unikat, Erlebnisplan and Männlichenbahnen, is thus continuing to break new ground outside of traditional advertising and in this way is creating a completely different kind of contact with Mr. and Mrs. Swiss's favourite fruit: the apple.

Walder,Werber: Holidays for EKZ Eltop employees

After winning the pitch, Walder, an advertising agency at EKZ Eltop, exudes pure «vacation vibes.» The internal engagement campaign of the same name motivates the 550 employees to reach their creative peak while helping them relax at the same time.

Motivation, togetherness, teamwork and identification with the company - these were the core objectives of the communication concept, according to a statement.

At the heart of the idea are a beach chair and a Online photo contest. All employees were asked to photograph themselves with their own branded beach chair, creatively and humorously staging one of the defined corporate core values. No limits were set for the implementation and interpretation, apart from digital framework conditions.

As a central element, Walder,Werber developed a web special with upload and voting function for the corporate values staged in the picture and chair. Since the launch, EKZ Eltop's employees have demonstrated their commitment anew every day. And the company's credo is to value and promote its own employees as an important component of its success. The photo competition is scheduled to run until mid-September and was already extremely successful in the first month, with many original uploads. The current leader has already received over 900 votes for his picture!

As a further incentive, a winner will be named each week - entirely according to democratic rules. The best, most original, most unique and most humorous uploads are awarded prizes and rewarded with attractive prizes. The crowning glory at the end of the campaign is the overall victory.

Responsible at EKZ Eltop: Stefan Preisig, Daniel Suter, Susanne Herrmann. Responsible at Walder,Werber: Sandro Walder (overall management); Melanie Poltéra (consulting); Cyril Schicker (text); Caroline Breitenmoser (AD); Gregor Szabo (graphics).

Media Focus: Online advertising on the rise

Media Focus's "Semester Report Online" shows that the online advertising market generated 374 million Swiss francs in revenue in the first half of 2013 and is expected to grow by nearly 25 percent over the next three years.

1. online advertising formats

In order to present the entire online advertising market, Media Focus' advertising statistics, which exclusively include the advertising format display, were expanded to include the advertising formats search engine advertising, affiliate marketing, online classifieds, and online directories. The following descriptions show how the various online advertising formats can be characterized and distinguished from one another.

At classic online advertising are understood to be so-called display ads, i.e., advertising spaces such as banners, skyscrapers, rectangles, or the integration of (multimedia) content from advertisers into the editorial area of the online advertising media covered. The usual forms of billing are fixed prices or prices according to the contacts (CPM) or clicks (CPC) achieved. The invoiced gross order values are integrated into the advertising print statistics.

The subarea Moving image specifies the Video Ad format (In-Banner and In-Stream).

With Search engine advertising are advertising options in which the advertiser pays for a position of its link on the common search engines. Usually, an auction process is used to determine who gets the best position. The billing method of search engine advertising is payment by number of clicks on the text-based links.

The segment Affiliate marketing is part of performance marketing and is billed on the basis of performance. Normally, billing is based on CPO, CPL, and in some cases CPC. The integration of advertising media takes place on a large number of websites, e.g. by means of display ads, text links, product feeds or special integrations. Affiliate marketing measures are usually carried out via a network and usually have a long-term orientation. The advertiser provides advertising material and remuneration as part of the "affiliate program", while the website bears the main responsibility for deciding which advertising material is delivered when, where and how.

Under the Online classifieds market (Classifieds is the term used to describe the online classifieds business. The "Real Estate", "Auto" and "Job" sections are taken into account as the basis for the Semester Report.

The advertising format Online directories includes the paid entries of a directory search platform such as paid additional entries, highlighting ad, logo entry.

Leo Burnett Switzerland: New Postlogistics agency

Postlogistics has commissioned Leo Burnett Switzerland to develop a multi-stage campaign for its new recipient-oriented services - including evening and Saturday delivery.

The campaign includes various B2B measures as well as measures aimed at the general public and will be seen throughout Switzerland from mid-September, as Leo Burnett Switzerland announced on Tuesday.

Le Matin: "Crass violation of the freedom of the press".

The apartment of a journalist from Le Matin was searched on Tuesday morning after a professor at the University of Neuchâtel filed a complaint against him. Le Matin and the Impressum union are calling it a «serious infringement of press freedom.».

The professor had filed a complaint against journalist Ludovic Rocchi at the end of July because of a series of articles. He accuses him of defamation, slander and violation of official secrecy. In connection with this complaint, the search of the apartment was ordered. Neuchâtel prosecutor Nicolas Aubert confirmed a corresponding report from Le Matin in response to an inquiry from the SDA news agency.

During the search, notes and computer material were seized, some of which also belonged to the journalist's wife, who was home alone at the time. The prosecutor, four inspectors and an informatics expert were involved in the search. According to prosecutor Aubert, the procedure was proportionate. Le Matin, on the other hand, was shocked by the actions of the Neuchâtel judiciary. The journalists' union Impressum also criticized the procedure. It was a "blatant violation of the freedom of the press".

Rocchi's articles had led the Neuchâtel State Council in the spring to decide to launch an administrative investigation into allegations of plagiarism at the University of Neuchâtel's economics faculty. The State Council also held at the time that the facts published in a media report violated the presumption of innocence against a professor. (SDA)

Andreas Gedenk strengthens Somexcloud

Starting in August, Andreas Gedenk will join the Somexcloud team and, together with Denise Mändli, will form the executive management team. The three founders—David Schäfer, Anders Bally, and Gustavo Salami—will continue to actively support the management team at the strategic level.

Andreas Gedenk's previous positions include B, G, Media (Co-Founder), Zenith Optimedia (Managing Partner), Publimedia (CEO) and Linkin Media (Co-Founder). David Schäfer says: "We are looking forward to further developing the chosen path with Andreas Gedenk and the existing team and to opening up new business areas."

Somexcloud is also launching the "Mobile Marketing" course in October. The rapid growth in mobile access to websites and social media platforms is presenting companies with new challenges and forcing them to respond quickly, Somexcloud said in a statement. The marketing course comprises twelve modules. Lecturers with practical experience impart know-how ranging from mobile advertising, mobile content and mobile commerce to responsive design. The course will be held as a 12-week course (start: Tuesday, October 1, 2013) and as an intensive course over three weekends (start: November 15, 2013). Further courses are already planned and will be communicated in due course.

Intensive Communications brings color to Bern

Aaare Green, Ocean Blue, Watermelon Red, Bubblegum Pink—Intensive Communications has dipped into the paint pot for Peter Springer and designed a summer color palette.

Four different poster subjects drew attention to the painting and plastering company in Bern and the surrounding area. No problem: the large posters printed with the above-mentioned colors immediately catch the eye in the grey of the city. The unusual color names immediately evoke pleasant memories of summer: a swim in the green Aare, a bite into a refreshing watermelon or a view of the deep blue sea.

However, the posters are also intended to show that Peter Spring understands his customers. Because if you don't come from the industry and don't know the technical terms, you can often only describe your favorite colors. This often results in wonderful word creations such as "Aare green" or "chewing gum pink".

APG|SGA Mountain: Mountain advertising works

During the 2011/12 winter season, Toblerone launched an «all-in-one» campaign in Arosa in collaboration with APG|SGA Mountain. The results of the accompanying 2011/2012 Isopublic survey, conducted on the slopes and online, show that the pilot campaign was a success.

The positive feedback from the 2011/12 piste survey has prompted Toblerone, among others, to extend the "All-in-One" campaign to the destinations of Grächen and Haute-Nendaz in the 2012/2013 season. Accordingly, the station branding in Arosa, Haute-Nendaz and Grächen is an effective eye-catcher for guests, as detailed in a press release. The communication accompanying the main attraction included branded ski stands, panorama boards, sampling campaigns in the ski area and in tourism businesses. The results of the 2012/2013 Isopublic survey on the impact of the "All-in-One" campaign in Grächen are once again clearly positive and confirm the results of the previous season: 82 percent of those surveyed liked the Toblerone appearance, an above-average 96 percent remembered the Toblerone brand when chocolate was mentioned and 25 percent of those surveyed said they would take Toblerone with them on their next ski trip.

Last but not least: neglected spread

Some people love Marmite, while others hate this British yeast-based spread. The same is true of the current Marmite campaign.

Marmite is a traditional seasoning paste that is particularly popular as a spread in the UK (comparable to the Swiss classic Cenovis). The intense yeast flavour - by-products of beer brewing are used for Marmite - is polarizing. The claim for the product is therefore unmistakable: "Love it or hate it".

The current TV campaign builds on this statement and adds to it: "Love it. Hate it. Just don't forget it." In reality TV style, Marmite jars that are gathering dust unused on kitchen shelves are liberated. "Unloved and forgotten - thousands of Marmite jars in the UK are neglected. One in ten Brits admits they haven't opened their jar in the last three months" says the Campaign page. In the clip, poor Marmite jars are transported away in cages like neglected animals and taken to a placement home. There, lucky jars find new owners.

The commercial created by Adam&Eve DDB is good British humor. The Labrador made unrecognizable by pixels alone is worth the price of admission. But like the product, the campaign is also polarizing: according to The Guardian 250 complaints were received by the Advertising Standards Authority within 24 hours of the first broadcast: The work of animal welfare organizations and children's charities was trivialized, the advertising was tasteless and offensive. And the YouTube comments are also divided as to whether the campaign is good or bad. True to the motto: Love it. Hate it. Just don't forget it. (hae)
