Philip Hofmann joins Hans Hofmann & Partner

Hofmann will leave Belcom at the end of April 2014 and become a co-owner and managing director of Hans Hofmann & Partner.

After targeted preparation, namely with an extended visit to the allied Dwight Cribb in Hamburg/Berlin, Philip Hofmann will start at Hans Hofmann & Partner in Zurich on June 1, 2014. This was announced by the company in a press release on Wednesday. Hans Hofmann is delighted that his son Philip will soon be at the forefront of the comprehensive further development of Hans Hofmann & Partner, the press release states.

Philip Hofmann has been Deputy Managing Director/Sales Manager at Belcom since February 2008, where he took over as Managing Director in July 2012, assuming responsibility for Sales, Media Services and Marketing at Tele Züri, Tele Bärn, Tele M1 and Radio 24. His successor Daniel Schnüriger will be responsible for this function from April 2014.

No source protection for author of dealer article

In October 2012, an article entitled "Visiting a dealer" appeared in the Basler Zeitung. The journalist reported on a visit to the home of "Roland", who had been dealing weed and hashish for ten years. He earned 12,000 francs a year from it.

Based on the article, the Basel-Stadt public prosecutor's office initiated criminal proceedings against unknown persons for qualified narcotics offenses. The author, who was summoned as a witness, invoked the right of journalists to refuse to testify.

Qualified case

The Basel Court of Appeal ruled last June that she did not have to disclose her source. However, the Federal Supreme Court has now upheld the public prosecutor's appeal. The judges in Lausanne pointed out that the statutory right to protection of sources does not apply to journalists without restriction.

The right to refuse to testify does not apply in particular if it is a matter of investigating a serious criminal offense, which is the case with a qualified narcotics offense. This is the case for trafficking in soft drugs such as hashish if the annual profit exceeds CHF 10,000, which is the case here.

The obligation to disclose the identity of "Roland" was also proportionate in view of the specific circumstances. The lower court's consideration that "Roland" could dismiss his statements in the article as bragging in criminal proceedings and that nothing could be proven against him anyway was irrelevant.

Advertising platform for "Roland"

The interest in solving the crime should be classified as great, especially as "Roland" was part of a large-scale sales organization according to his own statements. On the other hand, there was no significant public interest in the report in question. According to the court, this would be the case, for example, if the dealer's statement were to cause serious
had uncovered abuses in politics, business or public administration. In this case, however, it was solely about the portrayal of the Basel cannabis scene.

"Roland" had been given a platform to trivialize his drug business and present it as a quasi "normal" trade. The article offered free advertising for a permanent delinquent and could even be understood as an invitation to do the same as "Roland" and easily earn additional income, according to the ruling of January 31, 2014. Tamedia: Landbote submits petition

At 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday, employees hand over a petition to Tamedia in front of the Landbote editorial office on Garnmarkt in Winterthur.

In it, they categorically reject the "accompanying 2014 social plan" drawn up by the Group and demand the application of the "2009 social plan", which was negotiated at Tages-Anzeiger in 2009 and has since been implemented on various occasions. They are supported by Syndicom and Imprint, as the two associations write in a statement.

The reorganization that Tamedia wants to implement at the Winterthurer Landbote and the Zurich regional newspapers is nothing more than "a whitewashed cost-cutting measure on the backs of the staff and at the expense of the diversity and quality of the media," according to the statement. Tamedia wants to merge editorial teams and is cutting at least 25 full-time positions in another mass layoff. Syndicom and Impressum already communicated their displeasure about the upcoming restructuring in January (Werbewoche.ch reported).

In the consultation process, which is mandatory in the case of mass layoffs, the staff committees had made constructive and innovative proposals on how jobs could be saved and how journalistic services could be maintained. Tamedia had rejected everything outright. The staff justifiably felt that they had been put before their heads and not taken seriously, the statement continued.

In addition, Tamedia is lacking any social responsibility in cushioning the redundancies that the company intends to make in the coming weeks and is throwing previous standards out the window. The unilaterally issued "accompanying social plan" is categorically rejected by the entire staff.

The benefits offered are far below the level of previous Tamedia social plans and are even below the rates customary in the industry nationwide. Neither severance payments nor compensation payments in the event of unemployment are provided for, and those who retire early are left without cushioning payments into the pension fund. In addition, the scope of application is very narrowly defined; regular freelancers, for example, are completely excluded.

Imprint and Syndicom emphasize that resistance to this treatment of the staff is also being voiced in other parts of Tamedia - they are aware that the same fate could befall them. Accordingly, various staff committees have also declared their solidarity with their colleagues at Landbote, Zürichsee-Zeitung and Zürcher Unterländer.

By presenting this "accompanying social plan 2014" to the editorial staff, Tamedia was shirking any social responsibility. As the most powerful media company in Switzerland, which reported a profit of CHF 152 million in the 2012 financial year, such behavior towards the employees is incomprehensible and scandalous. With the petition, the staff of the affected editorial offices demand the application of the 2009 social plan, including the annexes for early retirement, which was negotiated with the social partners at the time and can be described as fair.

Last but not least: McReality

What was already clear to everyone has now been confirmed by a BuzzFeed video: The reality at McDonald's is less rosy than it's portrayed in the ads.

Of course, this does not only apply to the American fast food giant. The portrayal of food in advertising cannot do without tricks, and the work of food designers is fascinating. Often, the food shown is not even edible, but dummies made with handicraft materials. That's okay, because no one expects advertising to depict reality in the manner of "Kassensturz" (that's what "Kassensturz" is for).

One of the best-known classics in terms of the difference between advertising and reality is and remains McDonald's, however. But the direct comparison is also made easy for the customer: After selecting from the radiant, crisp luminous assortment, disillusionment follows a little later when opening the cardboard packaging. The heap of beef that laughs out of the box usually has little to do with the majestically advertised burger creations. McDonald's makes an exemplary effort and throws everything into the organic garbage can that has not found a buyer after 15 minutes - very sensible. Without success. Reality sometimes takes a bite out of advertising. (hae)

New visit records for sports multimedia

The online platform Srf.ch/sotschi is also popular with the public. By Friday, February 14, 2014, new access records had been set twice on the sports platform: Dominique Gisin's downhill win in Sochi led to 420,000 visits. With 393,361 visits, the other Swiss successes - gold from Dario Cologna and Sandro Viletta and silver from Selina Gasparin - also generated very high access rates last Friday. The previous access record dates back to 2010, when 391,978 visits were counted during the FIFA World Cup match between Chile and Switzerland in South Africa.

Customer growth and pitch wins

Various agencies are celebrating an increase in clients and successful pitches. This time, the list includes PR-KFS, Scholz & Friends, and Notch Interactive.

New in the portfolio of PR-KFS: Organic mountain cheese dairy from the Glarus region

Kar-F-Schneider-PR-KFS

Since recently, the agency PR-KFS, Karl F. Schneider advises the Luchsinger cheese dairy. The company from the canton of Glarus is breaking new ground in drawing attention to its products - namely with cheese shares. With these securities, cheese lovers purchase a five-kilogram cheese loaf and take part in a "Chästeilete" on the Luchsinger family farm.

For the financing of this project, the cheese dairy relies on crowdfunding: On 100-days.net interested parties can support the project and - depending on the amount - also participate in the "Chästeilete", purchase cheese shares or even produce their own cheese on the farm.

Brand value: Nestlé and Holcim lead the world

With Nestlé and Holcim, two Swiss brands were able to maintain their top positions in the ranking of the world’s most valuable brands. «Brand Finance Global 500» compiles an annual list of the 500 most valuable brands in the world.

With a brand value of 20.3 billion US dollars, the Swiss food company Nestlé remains the undisputed leader of the world's most valuable food brands and was able to increase its brand value by 12 percent compared to the previous year. Nestlé also takes first place in the Swiss ranking, well ahead of the banks UBS and Credit Suisse, and is ranked 40th worldwide. However, the Nestlé Pure Life and Kit Kat product brands are no longer among the 500 most valuable brands in the world this year.

A Swiss company is also at the top of the list of building materials manufacturers. Cement producer Holcim also maintains its leading position: with a brand value of almost four billion euros, Holcim is the most valuable brand in the building materials sector worldwide.

There is a surprise in the banking sector. UBS increased its brand value by 46% to USD 10.6 billion, overtaking Credit Suisse for the first time in the ranking of Switzerland's most valuable brands. In a global comparison of the 500 most valuable product and corporate brands, UBS climbed over 30 places.

Global results: Technology brands at the top

A look at the top places in the overall global ranking offers few surprises. As in the previous year, Apple is the most valuable brand in the world with a brand value of 104.7 billion US dollars. However, its toughest competitor Samsung is hot on Apple's heels. The Koreans were able to increase their brand value by 20 billion US dollars compared to the previous year to 78.8 billion US dollars. Google and Microsoft follow in third and fourth place. The top 10 is firmly in the hands of technology companies. With Walmart in 9th place, only one non-technology brand makes it into the list of the 10 most valuable brands in the world. After the botched IPO in 2013 and a slump in brand value, Facebook was able to make up ground and increase its brand value by 76% to 9.8 billion US dollars. The experts at Brand Finance attribute this leap to a return of investor confidence thanks to increased sales in mobile advertising.

Explanations of the methodology

Brands are one of the most important assets that companies possess. They support sales and help to shape relationships with customers and business partners. But without solid financial data, the importance of brands can easily be overlooked or misunderstood. The "Brand Finance Global 500" ranking gives analysts, investors, journalists and supervisory boards greater clarity by providing a ranking of the world's most valuable brands according to brand value.

Brand Finance calculates brand values based on the question of what royalties a company would have to pay if it did not own the brand. This method is also known as the royalty relief method. Brand Finance was also one of the first companies in the world to receive accreditation for ISO 10668-compliant brand valuations. The global ISO 10668 standard provides a consistent and reliable worldwide standard to ensure transparency and objectivity in brand valuation. Valuers must include all financial, action-based and legal information in the brand valuation.

In addition to the brand value, each of the 500 brands is assigned a brand rating: based on the model of credit ratings, this value represents a benchmark of the strengths, risks and potential of a brand in comparison to the brands of its competitors. The "Brand Finance Global 500" study is carried out annually. Details of the brand rating methodology can be found on the website Brandirectory.com can be called up. The results from previous years are also online viewable.

Partner & Partner: USZ employees turned into heroes

Partner & Partner has created an extraordinary corporate film for the University Hospital of Zurich as another piece of the puzzle in its new brand positioning.

With the launch of an integrated campaign to communicate the repositioned "USZ" brand, the University Hospital Zurich is breaking new ground in its 180-year history. The two-minute corporate video, which has just been completed, is an ambassador for this repositioning and is intended to convey the brand values in a credible and empathetic way, according to a statement. No models or voice-overs were deliberately used, but employees of the University Hospital Zurich are the actors and speakers of the film. Those responsible at the USZ, the agency and the director are equally enthusiastic about the professional performance of the lay actors. The film will be launched in mid-February and used at congresses, training events, trade fairs and other internal events.

The corporate film is part of a multi-stage image campaign (wall prints in the hospital building, advertisements, streetcar posters) and in-depth communication (brand primer, intranet with employee interviews as VJ clips).

Less than a year ago, Buxhofer handed over the management of the editorial office in Chur to work more as a journalist (Werbewoche.ch reported). The deceased leaves behind a wife and a son. His unexpected death was announced by his family and Südostschweiz Medien on Tuesday.
