Ninth Media Award of the M&M Media Group

On Wednesday, June 11, the Media Award, organized by the two Glattbrugg-based media agencies M&M and MM&B, was held for the ninth time. Among the winners was *Die Weltwoche*.

The best ten out of 50 presentations received the invitation to Glattbrugg for the official award ceremony. "After the positive echo of the last few years, this award is now one of the musts in our industry," said Fabio De Maria, Managing Director of M&M. This impression was also confirmed by the full attendance of the nominees. The event started with a short introduction. Then the tension rose and Ueli Christen, Managing Director of mm&b, started the award ceremony. "This was the best year ever, never before have we had such high scores," Christen said in his remarks.

Gold for the best presentation in 2013 went to Axel Springer, Bilanz/PME, represented by Sandra Bruderer and Claudia Köpfli. Silver went to Die Weltwoche, represented by Stephan Schwab and Fabian Keller. Finally, bronze went to Gossweiler Media, represented by Jeanette Quinzi and Tanja Büschi. A Lifetime Award for his many presentations at the agencies went to Peter Menzato of ZRZ, who will be stepping down this summer. The concluding aperitif provided space for shop talk - tips and tricks were also exchanged.

Rod: World Cup guerrilla action for titanium

Just in time for the start of the World Cup, the Zurich agency Rod Titan, Zurich's largest Mini dealership, is getting people talking. On the occasion of the classic Italy-England match, the agency drew attention to the taker qualities of the Mini Countryman at a prime location.

After the 2-1 triumph of the Squadra Azzurra, the agile 4×4 joined the parade of celebrating tifosi - but without concealing its English origins. The Countyrman demonstrated its suitability for difficult terrain in plain sight on Zurich's Langstrasse.

Mörgeli case: charges filed against Sunday newspaper

The relevant committee of the Zurich Cantonal Council is filing a criminal complaint against the Sonntagszeitung for publishing the committee's report on the «Mörgeli affair» prematurely.

The prior publication of the commission report on the "Mörgeli affair" by the Sonntagszeitung has a legal aftermath: The responsible supervisory commission of the Zurich cantonal council is filing a criminal complaint for violation of official secrecy, as it announced on Monday. In its Whitsun edition, the Sonntagszeitung had quoted from the report, which was still secret at the time, and also posted it on the Internet. Two days later, the Supervisory Commission Education and Health (ABG) had wanted to inform about the investigation results at a media conference. The newspaper's publication put the commission in a difficult position. It decided on the same day to bring the media conference forward by one day, to Whit Monday. "An announcement seemed to us to be the right way," ABG President Jörg Kündig said in response to a question from the SDA news agency. The fact that the report was leaked to the media is, according to Kündig, "not only a nuisance, but an outrage".

Among other things, the 21-page report accuses Zurich Education Director Regine Aeppli (SP) of exceeding her authority in the "Mörgeli affair". As is known, the affair led to the dismissal of university employees Christoph Mörgeli and Iris Ritzmann and to the premature resignation of the then rector Andreas Fischer. According to the ABG, Aeppli ordered the dismissal of Christoph Mörgeli as curator of the Museum of Medical History. This was not within her competence as president of the university council. The government councilor herself had denied having given such an order. (SDA)

Relationship between the media and the public highlighted in new book

What role do the media play for the public - and what role does the public play for the media? The Swiss Media Association has published a book that sheds light on this interrelationship from various perspectives.

"Media and the public - between symbiosis and rejection" is the title of the book published by the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. Various authors address this question from their respective perspectives and individual titles are presented in more detail. It was presented in Zurich on Monday.

Vonarburg: "Subsidies make you sluggish"

Verena Vonarburg, who recently became Swiss Media Director, addressed the current discussion at federal level about a framework or media funding concept. It would be better "not to provide the media directly with money". Subsidies "make people sluggish and are counterproductive". Politicians are worried, asserting that they want to promote the media more - and in reality they just want to control and discipline them, said Vonarburg. Politicians have the opportunity to intervene to help in other areas. For example, she recalled the importance of cheaper postal delivery. There should be no cutbacks here. And she argued that e-paper subscriptions, like print subscriptions, should benefit from a lower VAT rate. It would be even better if subscriptions were generally exempt from VAT.

Lebrument: "Publisher's book" in times of upheaval

Swiss Media President Hanspeter Lebrument spoke about the long history of the book, the publication of which had been delayed several times. But now it is here, the first joint book published by the publishers in their more than one hundred year history. The "Publishers' Book" is being published at a time of upheaval: former publishing houses have become media companies, there is no uniform business model - everyone is going their own way. With the book, the publishers wanted to make "a substantial contribution" to the discussion on improving the framework conditions for the media. Divided into four parts The 200-page, richly illustrated book is divided into four parts.

The first, "Basics", contains contributions from eight personalities from the media world, including media law expert Urs Saxer, Zug CVP National Councillor Gerhard Pfister and Press Council President Dominique Von Burg. In their articles and interviews, the authors address topics such as media quality and development, subsidies, press freedom and much more. Tamedia Chairman of the Board of Directors Pietro Supino has organized his thoughts according to keywords - from "apocalypse" and "moving image" to "free culture" and "paywall" to "diversity" and "time".

In the second part, "Media System Switzerland", twelve editors-in-chief and one editor-in-chief have their say. They present their respective newspapers or magazines. The spectrum ranges from Weltwoche (Roger Köppel) to the weekly newspaper (Susan Boos). Not only large publications such as Tages-Anzeiger (Res Strehle) and Blick am Abend (Peter Röthlisberger) have their say. Smaller ones are also included, such as the Bote der Urschweiz (Josias Clavadetscher) or the Freiburger
News (Christoph Nussbaumer).

In the third part, "Documentation", media expert Ueli Custer provides facts and figures, statistics and graphics on the Swiss media landscape. He also explains media training in Switzerland - from the primary school learning workshop to further training courses for experienced journalists.

Finally, the last section, "Press Art", explains the book's illustrations and the history of the art collection. Information on the authors, picture credits and the like are provided in the appendix. (SDA)

Goldbach Audience: Cooperation with Smartclip

Goldbach Audience is successfully advancing the multiscreen concept through its partnership with Smartclip, the leading European provider of video advertising across all devices on the web, mobile, and connected TV.

Through this collaboration with smartclip, which extends across the entire multiscreen offering, Goldbach Audience can further expand the offering of the Goldbach Video Network, which was successfully launched in 2012, and is the first Swiss provider to be able to actively manage Connected TV locally.

Sales figures for TV sets have been rising exponentially again for a few weeks now; as is only possible every four years when the entire world revolves around football. Each of these TV sets is an Internet-enabled Connected TV. As a result, advertisers are able to target consumers with online advertising on every screen, across all devices, and around the clock. Even those who are no longer reached by conventional TV advertising, which can significantly increase the advertising impact of TV campaigns. In 2012, Goldbach Audience launched the Goldbach Video Network, which, according to a statement, is the market leader and, with over 50 million video views per month, currently has twice as many views as its most successful competitor.

Since 2008, Smartclip has been using optimized media efficiency and its own proprietary technology to integrate and deliver video ads to advertisers on all Internet-enabled devices, positioning itself as an innovator and international pioneer in the digital video market: Topics such as connected TV, multiscreen and also programmatic video ad buying via the SmartX Platform are being driven forward together with the device manufacturers. Goldbach Audience and smartclip are united not only by the multiscreen strategy, but also by the premium concept and high quality standards.

"Through the cooperation with smartclip in Austria and Switzerland, Goldbach Video Network customers now benefit from additional reach, increased attention, advertising in controlled environments, interactivity and additional opportunities to build brand worlds as well as higher efficiency in targeting and measurability. The active marketing of smartclip in Switzerland and Austria offers advertisers the opportunity to be present in the brandsave environments of the leading TV set manufacturers and to significantly increase the advertising impact of a linear TV campaign through Connected TV," explains Alexander Horrolt, Managing Director Goldbach Audience.

Oliver Vesper, Managing Director Smartclip, adds: "Goldbach Audience is the preferred partner for us in Austria and Switzerland, having distinguished itself in the areas of online, video and mobile advertising and TV. In return, our innovation themes bring relevant added value to this partnership in order to further develop the Austrian and Swiss markets intensively in the area of digital TV."

Last but not least: World champion FC Aarau

A great honor for FC Aarau: An American TV network has, without further ado, designated the Super League club as the Swiss national team.

The fact that US-Americans often have gaps in their education when it comes to soccer was demonstrated on this place was already discussed on Sunday. That's not too tragic, after all, the rest of the world is only interested in baseball and football to a limited extent. However, the TV station ABC7 has now taken the cake: as the Northwestern Switzerland reported that it seriously displayed the FC Aarau crest before the Switzerland-Ecuador match - instead of the Swiss cross.

Unbenannt-5_37
Picture: Aargauerzeitung.ch

The initial assumption that this was a photomontage by an original Aarau fan turned out to be wrong: the faux pas was discovered by a Swiss living in the USA, photographed and also captured on camera by a second person. It is unclear why FC Aarau was given the honor of representing Switzerland overseas. Especially as the Aarau eagle does not remotely resemble anything associated with the Swiss Football Association. And even an American editorial intern would have a hard time googling it - even after numerous test attempts, the error could not be reproduced.

So there is only one possibility: the Americans are so enthusiastic about Switzerland's most likeable football club that they demonstrate their love for FC Aarau at every opportunity. Although - that would refute the theory that they know nothing about football. After all, the facepalm logo of the 2014 World Cup fits perfectly into the picture for once.

Pinkup: Summer campaign for TCS Schutzbrief

Risk doesn't take a vacation—even then, incidents both big and small can occur. Well in advance of the summer vacation, TCS members receive mail from Pinkup recommending that they purchase the TCS ETI travel insurance policy.

If you prepare well for a trip, you are always prepared for minor injuries: TCS sends out a red folder in travel pharmacy look as the main mailing. It is printed with a practical precautionary checklist and contains a product brochure. Just as important as the first-aid kit is the TCS ETI protection letter. It protects you in the event of major or minor incidents such as illness, accidents, breakdowns, etc., and at the same time gives you a piece of home in your luggage. This is because the assistance provided to TCS ETI Schutzbrief holders is always in accordance with Swiss quality standards - a reassuring message. This message is conveyed by Swiss-look sticking plasters. They are the eye-catcher in the key visual, which is used both for the main mailing and for the pre-announcement self-mailer. And because TCS likes to offer its members added value, the Swiss cross sticking plasters can be ordered as a set.
