Last but not least: Are you still with Woo Woo?

Two marketing experts catch the latest trend in the elevator and don't hesitate for long. Adobe's new campaign takes the mickey out of its own target group.

In today's fast-paced society, many trends are too short-lived to be worth talking about. If everyone is excited about the latest idea one day, they have usually forgotten about it the next day or replaced it with an even newer trend. We're not just talking about internet phenomena - the global women's community recently posed topless with their backs to the camera in the wild (name of the phenomenon unfortunately already forgotten) - but also apps and social networks. If the marketing department wants to jump on the bandwagon, it either needs to have a good nose, be very quick or take its time to rethink the whole thing.

With the Marketing Cloud, Adobe provides analysis and targeting tools to potentially avoid these mistakes. Reveals the spot by the agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners. By the way: Are YOU (still) with Woo Woo? (hae)

Catherine Martin: "What's going on on the net?"

Freelance art director Catherine Martin has created a striking visual identity on behalf of the Department of Education of the Canton of Zurich. The theme is a conference on promoting media literacy among young people.

The idea plays with an original answer from the well-known Siri software, which is supposed to fulfill the function of a personal assistant, but is not really helpful in this case. So there is no way around the Education Directorate conference. Due to high demand, it was even held twice.

SRF Editor-in-Chief: Television has a ratings problem

SRF Editor-in-Chief Tristan Brenn currently views the media landscape as «a huge construction site.» Television has a ratings problem, and newspapers have a circulation problem, Brenn said in a newspaper interview.

The editor-in-chief of Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF) sees the reason for this in the fact that the supply side has exploded due to the internet. Brenn said this in an interview with the daily newspaper Bündner Tagblatt on Wednesday. The downward spiral in ratings for some television information programs has been halted. The SRF editor-in-chief mentioned "Arena", "Tagesschau", "10 vor 10" and "Schweiz aktuell". These programs have made up ground in the last two years and have even increased their ratings - "Arena" by 1.5 percent.

A new "arena"

According to Brenn, the "Arena" still plays an important role in the opinion-forming process. He announced: "We will come up with a new concept in the new year. And after the summer break, the "Arena" will have a new presenter in Jonas Projer." It is important for the new SRF editor-in-chief, who has been in office since the beginning of March, "that the audience perceives us as independent and credible". Brenn: "If we make concessions there, we will have lost our raison d'être." (SDA)

Five East Switzerland Media Awards presented

The works that were honored with an Eastern Switzerland Media Award in five categories on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, are as diverse as Eastern Switzerland itself.

In the press photography category, the prize went to Urs Jaudas (St. Galler Tagblatt), in the daily text category to Stefan Hilzinger (Thurgauer Zeitung) and in the reportage/background category, Mathias Ninck (Das Magazin) received this year's media prize. The television jury awarded this year's prize to Reto Hanimann (TVO). In the radio report category, Sara Hauschild (Radio SRF) received the Eastern Switzerland Media Prize.

The Eastern Switzerland Media Prize has been awarded for the 14th time. A total of 169 entries were submitted, divided into five categories - television report, press photography, radio report, report/background and daily text. The festive award ceremony in the Pfalzkeller was opened with a welcome address from St. Gallen cantonal councillor Fredy Fässler.

The award decisions in the individual categories:

"From a boy's dream to reality" - TV feature category

The jury awarded this year's Eastern Switzerland Media Prize in the television feature category to Reto Hanimann for the report "Vom Bubentraum zur Realität", which was broadcast on TVO on December 29, 2013."The author manages the demanding dramaturgical arc that a 25-minute documentary requires because he knows how to develop the three stories individually, categorize them and ultimately weave them together in terms of content," said the jury in recognition of the award winner.

"Krasnodar - the repellent" - Press photography category

Urs Jaudas is awarded the Eastern Switzerland Media Prize by the press photography jury for his work "Krasnodar - die Abweisende". The pictures appeared in the St. Galler Tagblatt on November 28, 2013. "Although something of the much-vaunted melancholy of the Russian soul shines through in his pictures, they are completely free of sentimentality or cliché," the jury notes.

"War in the heart clinic" - Reportage/Background category

The jury awarded this year's Eastern Switzerland Media Prize in the Reportage/Background category to Mathias Ninck for his report "Krieg in der Herzklinik", which was published in the Tages Anzeiger magazine on November 16, 2013. The reportage jury justified its decision as follows: "The author's linguistic care is impressive. He succeeded in organizing the wealth of details in a comprehensible way and creating an arc of suspense. The article is gripping and serves to establish the truth".

"A testimony of wealth" - Category text of the day

The Tagestext jury awards this year's Eastern Switzerland Media Prize to Stefan Hilzinger for his article "Ein Reichtumszeugnis", which was published in the Thurgauer Zeitung on July 16, 2013."A text written on the spur of the moment that neither seeks accolades nor makes a grand gesture. This was one of the reasons why the jury chose it," said the jury, praising the entry.

"Sweat dogs: bloodstains and deep insights into hunters' souls" - Radio feature category

The radio jury awards this year's Eastern Switzerland Media Prize to Sara Hauschild for her radio report "Schweisshunde: Von Blutspuren und tiefen Einblicken in Jägerseelen", broadcast in September 2013 on Regionaljournal Graubünden and Rendez-vous am Mittag on Radio SRF 1.
"The outstanding rhythm of sounds, original voices and author's text, combined with the unbiased sensitivity in approaching the polarizing topic of hunting, makes this contribution stand out in particular," said the jury, explaining its decision.

New LGK: Sign for mountain and alpine products

The Federal Office for Agriculture has commissioned the agency Neue LGK to develop an official logo for Swiss mountain products and another for alpine products.

The official mark is not intended to compete with existing brands and marks, but to guarantee the origin of the products from the mountain area or from the summering area. Until now, there was no such uniform official mark. The aim of the two official signs is to make the choice easier for potential buyers of high-quality mountain or alpine products and to protect them from misuse. In addition, producers want a common identity and clear labeling of their products.

Many consumers are willing to pay a higher price for cheese or meat from the summering or mountain areas than for comparable products from the lowlands. This is because products from mountain and alpine regions are made with special ingredients and in limited quantities and stand for natural, authentic enjoyment. The requirements for the development of the official label for Swiss mountain and alpine products included: Comprehensibility for consumers as well as recognizability in the context of all signs. In addition, the name should function in all national languages and be easily pronounceable. The Neue LGK agency was involved in finding an appropriate sign.

The solution for the official "mountain sign" is a double contoured abstract representation of a mountain peak. The thickly drawn lower lying line, the blue coloring as well as the placement of the Swiss cross on the base line emphasize the lower lying production areas within the mountain area.

Bergprodukte

The official "Alp sign" is based on the same basic representation as the "Mountain sign". Since the summering area is usually located at a higher altitude than the mountain area, the official sign for alpine products is colored green, the higher line is drawn thickly and the Swiss cross is placed further up.

Alpprodukte

The two official guarantee marks can be used from this summer on products from the mountain and alpine areas, provided that the products marked or advertised with them meet the requirements of the Mountain and Alpine Ordinance.

Responsible at the Federal Office for Agriculture FOAG: Patrik Aebi, Head of Quality and Sales Promotion; Claudia Holenstein, Research Associate; Pamela Crespo, Research Associate. Responsible at Neue LGK: Hans Tanner, creative direction; Stephan Wittwer, art direction; Nadia Jost and Nina Geissbühler, graphics; Claudia Shatri, consulting.
