There are movies that you want to watch again and again and that even haunt your dreams. Cult films, in other words. You don't need much introduction to them, the names roll off the tongue: "The Royal Tenenbaums" (incidentally, Orange Cinema is also showing Wes Anderson's latest work "The Grand Budapest Hotel"), "La Vità é Bella", "Casablanca" or "Pulp Fiction". All these gems will be screened in Zurich this year.
Previews
The month-long event opens on July 17 with the new film by John Turturro, "Fading Gigolo". The film is about the simple florist Fioravante, who wants to try his hand as a "man for a few hours" due to his buddy Murray's money problems. Murray (Woody Allen) acts as his pimp. Of course, not everything goes according to plan, even though Fioravante serves customers such as Sharon Stone and Sofia Vergara.
Orange Cinema is particularly proud of the preview of "Der Koch", based on the novel of the same name by Martin Suter. Director Ralf Huettner and actors Hamza Jeetooa and Max Rüdlinger will be live on location to talk about the filming before the screening. In addition, "Les Vacances du petit Nicolas" and "Can a Song Save Your Life?" will be shown to a large audience for the first time.
Family and Ladies Night
Traditionally, women and families are once again celebrated at Orange Cinema this year. This year, the ladies have a graceful visitor: Nicole Kidman as "Grace of Monaco". Monaco, early 60s. Former Hollywood star Grace Kelly has swapped a film career for marriage to Prince Rainier. But as soon as the
When the wedding bells fall silent, happiness is already at risk. This year's opening film in Cannes is a majestic biopic starring Nicole Kidman, as beautiful and graceful as the original. At the Family Night, "Rio 2", an animated film, will be shown and children up to the age of 12 do not pay admission - tickets are provided by sponsor Orange.
Zurich Film Festival
The Zurich Film Festival has been a partner of Orange Cinema for seven years now. This time, the ZFF is presenting the American film "Liberace - Too much of a good thing is wonderful", which celebrated its Swiss premiere at the last ZFF. Winner of two Golden Globes and eleven Emmy Awards, the feature film, an HBO Film production, was not actually conceived for the big screen, but then found its way into cinemas thanks to the outstanding actors Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. The eccentric love story, directed by Steven Soderbergh in extraordinary settings, will be shown on August 4.
Charlie Chaplin orchestrated live
The Basel Symphony Orchestra's performance at the Zürichhorn has also become a tradition. This time it accompanies what is probably the master's most prominent film: "The Kid". It is one of his best-known and most financially successful works and has become the epitome of Chaplin's slapstick art. The short film "Kid Auto Races at Venice", which was made exactly 100 years ago, will also be shown. A film-historical event, accompanied live on location by the Basel Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Belgian conductor and composer Dirk Brossé.
