Comet: World champion at the grill

Komet demonstrated just how well soccer and barbecuing go together in Bell’s World Cup campaign, which generated a lot of buzz.

In line with the matches, it presented football-related terms interpreted by the Bell Barbecue range (Werbewoche.ch reported). In advertisements and banners scattered throughout Switzerland, the grill sausages recreated various situations from the world of soccer. Individual subjects made direct reference to current events, such as the match successes of the Swiss national team. The accompanying online game also proved how responsive and flexible the campaign concept could be applied.

During the campaign, fans were able to give free rein to their creativity and design their own visuals on the Bell website. More than 2277 participants (unique users) put their passion and enthusiasm into creating 2447 different subjects from sausage, rolls and side dishes. One Gallery of the contributions as well as the online game are still online until August.

Linck, Onartline, Enrique Videla: Fully Cooperating

What happens when you lock three advertising professionals in a room—and they actually get along? A new collaboration, of course. Sparks flew between Linck from Walchwil, the Onartline agency from Cham, and Enrique Videla from Zug.

All three bring many years of experience in the industry to the table. Linck Werbeagentur has been operating in Switzerland for over ten years and was previously active in Germany starting in 1993. Onartline was founded in 2005 and has already proven itself extensively and successfully in the field of online marketing. The latest addition to the team is marketing specialist Enrique Videla, who will be taking over marketing consulting and project management for the agency team going forward.

The stated goal of the partnership is to create added value for customers, expand the range of services, and develop and refine new strategies.

In addition, the trio now offers a wide range of services. From marketing and sales strategies to branding, online marketing, and traditional advertising, clients can now receive comprehensive, top-quality service and get everything from a single source. This not only saves money but also ensures a better and faster flow of information between the various divisions.

Plans? «Of course, because in the future we will further intensify our collaboration, expand our capacity, and thereby generate even more value for our customers—whose stronger market positioning we strive to achieve every day.»

Last but not least: A picture for every story

Black-and-white, open-ended images depict scenarios in which people have to explain something that has just happened to them. The campaign promotes the Getty Images photo agency.

In the background of the conversation scenes is a wheel featuring colorful Getty Images photos, each of which would offer a different explanation for the mishaps that occurred. The call to action «Tell any story you want» is specifically aimed at journalists, graphic designers, and others. For every story, you’ll find a fitting image on Getty Images that says more than a thousand words. (sis)

Matter Gretener Lesch has designed new text ads for Swissinvest. They rely entirely on the impact of the headlines.

In 2014, the Swissinvest real estate fund once again proved that you don’t have to spend a fortune on advertising to attract attention, according to a press release issued by the agency on Friday. Classified ads and banners are enough—as long as the headlines are as relevant as they are concise.

Apptus Study on Online Shopping Behavior

Apptus surveyed 500 people about their online shopping experiences: why, what, and how they shop online, and what they expect from websites.

Apptus eSales, a data-driven e-commerce software platform used by Swedish online retailers, surveyed over 500 online shoppers as part of a study. According to a company press release, the study shows that customers visit online stores more regularly when they are shown products that are relevant to them (which is made possible by Apptus’s software).

– 88 percent of respondents have a favorite website that they use regularly for shopping because they associate it with positive online shopping experiences.

– For 57 percent of respondents, a poor website that isn’t tailored to customers would be a reason to leave it and shop elsewhere. One of the most important factors is an easy-to-use search function. Page load speed and a broad product portfolio also play a significant role.

– According to the study, as many as 63 percent of online shoppers view it as a positive when online stores remember their past purchases, and as a result, they are more loyal to those stores.

TBS stops time for the Theater Spektakel

The marketing campaign for this year's edition of the Zürcher Theater Spektakel thrives on the tension between moving and still images.

Cross-media theater productions that incorporate film and video into their work are currently all the rage. Such productions can also be seen at this year’s Zürcher Theater Spektakel. For this reason, TBS & Partner proposed to the festival organizers that a short video production serve as the centerpiece of this year’s festival communications, with individual stills from the video serving as visuals for the print campaign.

According to Friday’s press release, Swiss photo and video artist Augustin Rebetez was the perfect choice for this project. In his cinematic «wild ride» across the Landiwiese, he blends theater with spectacle and highlights the festival’s many facets in a zany series of short scenes.

A series of individual stills provides the motifs from which TBS & Partner creates all the subjects for the
print campaign and all key media used for program communication. The accompanying video art can be viewed on the Zürcher Theater Spektakel website at Theaterspektakel.ch.

Complaint by Christian Lüscher upheld

The Press Council has partially upheld a complaint filed by Christian Lüscher, a Liberal Party member of the National Council from Geneva, against Le Temps. The article’s headline, «Christian Lüscher Manipulates Housing Laws,» violated the duty to report the truth.

In addition, the title and lead contradict the actual article, the Press Council said in a statement on Friday. The exaggeration in the title is only justified if it is quickly differentiated in the following text. This was not the case in the present article.

The newspaper Le Temps had therefore not fully respected its duty to tell the truth. Further accusations from the Geneva National Council, according to which the newspaper had suppressed important information and made anonymous accusations, were judged by the Press Council to be unjustified.

New TV editorial team for business topics

The TV Editorial Board of Swiss Radio and Television is launching a new business news department, headed by Reto Gerber and Tobias Bosshard. The business news department is responsible for a variety of business programs.

The new specialist editorial team covers the programs "ECO," "SRF Börse," special programs such as those from the World Economic Forum or the Swiss Economic Forum, as well as all the business reporting from "Tagesschau" and "10vor10. Reto Gerber heads the specialist editorial team. He is assisted by Tobias Bossard as team leader for current affairs reporting.

More focus, more classification, more specialist know-how: this is the declared goal that Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen has been pursuing for some time with its daily news programs. The TV editorial team now wants to go one step further along this path and is creating a new specialist editorial team for business. Planning from a single source, a close exchange with the magazine "ECO" and, last but not least, a strengthening of business reporting in the online area are important goals of the new editorial team, which will be operational from the end of 2014.

The specialist editorial office for business consists of seven full-time positions that will be spun off from "Tagesschau" and "10vor10. The head of the new editorial department is Reto Gerber, who will continue to head the editorial department of "ECO". The specialist editorial department produces the program "SRF Börse" and realizes the economic reports and features in the "Tagesschau" and in "10vor10" as well as special programs such as from the World Economic Forum or the Swiss Economic Forum. This area forms a single unit and reports to Tobias Bossard, previously a producer at "ECO," as team leader for current economic reporting.

Tristan Brenn, Editor-in-Chief of TV: "In an online-driven media landscape that makes it harder rather than easier for audiences to find their way around, despite the constant stream of new offerings, we want to distinguish ourselves even more through classification. We have been pursuing this strategy at 'Tagesschau' and '10vor10' for some time. By setting up a specialist business editorial department, we want to make even greater use of our expertise in this complex subject."

Covenant editorial office urged to cancel

The departure of editor-in-chief Artur Vogel from the Bund was not entirely voluntary, writes Medienwoche. The Bund editorial team had been pushing for the removal of its chief in recent months.

Tamedia spokesman Christoph Zimmer told Medienwoche that Vogel had resigned "at his own request. Zimmer did not say, however, whether the publisher had suggested this step to him.

Vogel vehemently contradicts this version, but several Bund employees who were interviewed independently of each other would agree: Without the protest notes from the editorial staff, Vogel would have remained in office, because the publisher would never have found out how things really stood with the management of the traditional paper.

For the Bund editorial team, Vogel's behavior apparently increasingly developed into a mortgage. The biggest problem, according to Media Week article the extensive traveling of the editor-in-chief. Because he was regularly absent for long periods of time, Vogler increasingly lost touch with the editorial team. As a result, his actions were not sufficiently anchored in the daily editorial business. Employees found it increasingly difficult to understand Vogel's decisions. The circumstances that led to Vogel's departure were even referred to internally as a "palace revolution.

Another problem, according to the article, was Vogel's writing deficit in daily politics. For example, he didn't think it necessary to comment on the last elections at the municipal, cantonal, as well as federal level. "It has always been my principle to let those comment who understand more about the matter than I do," Vogel is quoted as saying.

Reinforcement for the creation of Serviceplan

Serviceplan gets a new member: Raul Serrat joins the team as Creative Director, who will take over as Head of Creation together with Christian Sommer. Co-founder Sacha Moser has left the agency for health reasons.

Christian Sommer, who has played a key role in shaping the agency's creative product since its launch as Creative Director, will head the creative department with immediate effect - soon together with Raul Serrat, who will take up his position at Serviceplan Suisse at the end of August. Over the past 15 years, Serrat has worked as art director and creative director at agencies such as Publicis, Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett and Wirz Werbung.

Sacha Moser, who had been Head of Creation since the agency's founding, has already had to take a short step due to illness and has now left the agency for health reasons. Sacha Moser comments: "I regret this radical step extremely. It in no way corresponds to the original intention and the plans we had together with Christian Baertschi. In the short time we have worked together, we have come to appreciate each other both professionally and privately. By working together as partners, we were able to build up an innovative agency in a short time and, with the trust of our clients, already create successful and excellent work. I am convinced that with this team many great successes can be celebrated in the future."

The agency will be managed by Christian Baertschi as co-founder and managing partner as well as by Christian Sommer and Raul Serrat.

A newspaper must always listen to the criticized

Is a newspaper allowed to withhold a statement from a person against whom it has made serious allegations? No, says the Press Council in response to a hospital scandal in Valais in 2013 that was brought to its attention.

Even if the newspaper interviewed the person's superior and reported on that person's statement at a press conference a few weeks after the articles, it cannot dispense with it. The requirement of a hearing in the case of serious allegations must be respected in any case, writes the Press Council in a statement on Friday.

In August 2013, the Valais newspaper "Le Nouvelliste" published two critical articles about Vincent Bettschart, a doctor at Sion Hospital. In them, it reported on the death of several patients after operations performed by Bettschart. The information for the first article came from the satirical newspaper "Vigousse". In the second article, "Le Nouvelliste" reported on a new death after an operation, quoting essentially anonymous sources.

Bettschart appealed to the Swiss Press Council. He saw several principles of the journalists' code violated: the duty to tell the truth, processing of sources, hearing of serious accusations and the presumption of innocence.

In its decision, the Press Council states that "Le Nouvelliste" handled the available information correctly by attempting to verify it. Citing anonymous sources was, in view of the shattered climate within the health network
Valais, whose recent history is marked by incidents and scandals, justified. The Press Council recalls that a newspaper is not obliged to repeat the whole history of an affair that regularly makes the news. It may also mention the name of a well-known personality such as Vincent Bettschart. After all, the doctor was the subject of the article.

On the other hand, "Le Nouvelliste" should have heard the complainant on the serious allegations or at least tried to do so. The editorial office can neither claim that it questioned the chairman of the board of directors and the responsible government councilor, nor that it let Bettschart have his say a few weeks later.
