Serranetga: Underwater selfies for Samsung

One of the most impressive features of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is its water resistance, which meets the IP67 standard. To demonstrate this, the Zurich-based agency Serranetga came up with something special.

Recently, passers-by at the Zurich lake basin experienced a damp surprise. While they were enjoying the sun, a diver appeared out of the blue on the surface of the lake and pressed a ringing Galaxy S5 into the hands of unsuspecting passersby. "Phone for you..." In order to keep the smartphone, those chosen had to prove that they were just as water-resistant as the new Galaxy S5 and jump into the ice-cold Lake Zurich - in full view of all passers-by, documented by five hidden cameras.

The "Samsung Galaxy S5 Challenge: #UnderwaterSelfie" video that emerged from the campaign garnered over 350'000 clicks on YouTube in one week. It is part of the Galaxy S5 launch campaign "Samsung First Touch", also developed by Serranetga.

Last but not least: A look into the Twitter crystal ball

After the World Cup final, an account on Twitter called «Fifa Corruption» caused a stir: The author seemed to have known the outcome of the game in great detail well in advance.

It is well known that FIFA's reputation is not the best. The global football association is repeatedly associated with issues such as corruption and bribery. Even the recently concluded World Cup in Brazil was unable to really polish up its battered image. Particularly in the first part of the tournament, the refereeing decisions, some of which were difficult to understand, gave rise to speculation and conspiracy theories. It's a shame, really, because there was some very entertaining football on the side.

The breeding ground for FIFA criticism therefore seems more fertile than ever. After Sunday's final, for example, the Twitter account "Fifa Corruption" @FifNdhs to open social media ears. The tweets were written before the match started, but accurately reflected the course of the final. Götze will score, a goal will be scored in the second half of extra time, Germany will win 1-0 after extra time... proof of Fifa's corruption, according to the first tweet.

At least at first, the author seemed to cause a lot of confusion - the "predictions" were retweeted up to 76,000 times. This is hardly surprising: the idea was simple, but cleverly staged. So clever, in fact, that it was first published by an Indian named @sureshnakhua had to be solved with a screenshot to convince (most) people of the hoax. Accordingly, tweets on possible match outcomes and goal scorers were written in advance. The false ones were deleted after the game - the hocus pocus was complete. Nice try. But it looks like the Germans will be able to keep their precious fourth star after all. (hae)

KSP congratulates Switzerland on the world championship title

Thanks to KSP and Myclimate, Switzerland now also has a star on its jersey. Another motif will be used in Germany.

Active, sustainable climate protection is the core concern of Myclimate. When nations meet, as they will at the World Cup, the leading provider of voluntary offsetting measures is not only interested in football, but also in the climate. Together with the creatives from KSP, two motifs were developed that will be used immediately after the big tournament in Brazil. Simple and surprising, they show this alternative view of the climate foundation.

With the first motif, Switzerland is surprisingly congratulated on winning the world championship. Of all the participating nations, the Alpine country has the best ratio of CO2 emissions to gross domestic product. Clean and productive therefore gets a star. All the figures and the study can be found at Grist.org

Myclimate_Weltmeister_CH

With the second motif, Myclimate points out that a lack of climate protection also threatens the country of the world champion. True to the principle of "avoid, reduce and offset", Myclimate offers solutions so that the world can experience many more beautiful world championship titles.

The motifs can be seen in the Swiss daily press and in Germany as of today.

Publigroupe-VR recommends sale to Swisscom

In its report published on Monday, Publigroupe’s Board of Directors recommends that shareholders accept Swisscom’s public tender offer of 214 francs per share, as previously announced on June 17, 2014.

However, it recommends rejecting Tamedia's offer of CHF 190 per share. In addition, Publigroupe will publish the interim financial statements as at March 31, 2014 required in connection with the current purchase offers on Monday.

In its report, Publigroupe's Board of Directors justifies its recommendation in favor of the Swisscom offer at the offered price of CHF 214 per share. The price offered by Swisscom is within the range that the independent fairness opinion considers appropriate from a financial point of view. Furthermore, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, strategic considerations also speak in favor of Swisscom as the new owner of PubliGroupe, in particular the expected strengthening of the market position of the directory platforms local.ch and search.ch through their planned merger. In addition, the Board of Directors of PubliGroupe is of the opinion that there could be promising opportunities for further development of the Digital & Marketing Services business segment together with Swisscom.

In a ruling dated June 11, 2014, the Swiss Takeover Board required Publigroupe to prepare (extraordinary) interim financial statements as at March 31, 2014 in connection with the purchase offers from Swisscom and Tamedia. With increased consolidated net sales of CHF 57.7 million (2013: CHF 55.6 million) and due to operational improvements in the Media Sales/Publicitas business division, the operating loss was significantly reduced to CHF -3 million (2013: CHF -9 million). As previously reported, the sale of Publicitas for Publigroupe, which was completed at the end of June 2014, will lead to a one-off write-down of around CHF 30 - 40 million, which will have a negative impact on the 2014 net result. Publigroupe expects a positive operating result for the first half of 2014.

Ringier and KKR: Long-term cooperation

Ringier and investor KKR will jointly continue to develop Ringier's Swiss digital businesses in the classifieds and marketing sectors. KKR is acquiring a 49 percent stake in each of Ringier Digital's subsidiaries, Scout24 Switzerland and Omnimedia.

The online marketplaces for vehicles (Autoscout24.ch, Motoscout24.ch) and real estate (Immoscout24.ch) as well as the classifieds platform Anibis.ch are united under the umbrella of Scout24 Switzerland.

Marc Walder, Chief Executive Officer Ringier, in a press release: "As a family-owned company, we select our partners with great care. We are proud to join forces with KKR, one of the world's leading investment companies with extensive experience in the media and technology sectors, to drive forward the development of our digital business. Ringier already generates 30 percent of its revenues in this way. The aim is to achieve 50 percent digital revenue in three to four years." Walder will become Chairman of the Board of Directors of Scout24 Switzerland.

Philipp Freise, Partner and Head of the European Media & Digital Investment Team at KKR: "This investment is all about bringing our entrepreneurial capital to the partnership with Ringier. We see significant potential in Scout24 Switzerland and Omnimedia. Both have a strong national position in the attractive Swiss market. We look forward to realizing the full potential of these high-quality companies together with Ringier. The companies will have access to KKR's global network of advisors and investment professionals specializing in technology."

KKR has extensive experience in the digital media sector. Recent investments in this area include BMG Rights Management (joint venture with Bertelsmann), Fotolia, ProSiebenSat.1, Go Daddy, Internet Brands and Mitchell International. The owner-managed investor has worked successfully with many leading family businesses, both in minority and majority stakes. KKR uses its international network and financial expertise to support its partners in strategic and operational matters. The funds for the investment in Scout24 Switzerland and Omnimedia come from KKR's third European private equity fund.

According to the press release, the collaboration aims to further expand the already very good market position of the two companies in the coming years. In an international comparison, the Swiss online sector has considerable growth potential. While the proportion of online advertising in the overall advertising mix is very low, broadband and mobile Internet are used intensively. At the same time, Switzerland has a strong purchasing power and an innovation-oriented economy. The combination of these factors forms the foundation for Ringier's growth strategy in the digital sector. The transaction is subject to the usual regulatory approvals. The financial details are not being communicated.

Carlos photos: Public prosecutor's office may investigate

The Zurich public prosecutor's office may examine whether criminal proceedings can be opened against the PR consultant of senior youth prosecutor Marcel Riesen. The media professional is suspected of having passed on pictures to Sonntagsblick in the "Carlos" case.

The high court has approved the request for authorization, Corinne Bouvard, spokeswoman for the chief public prosecutor's office, confirmed on Monday, according to a report in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. This means that the public prosecutor's office can initiate investigations against the PR consultant for breach of official secrecy. The pictures were taken at the Massnahmenzentrum Uitikon (MZU) and published last February in the Sonntagsblick. They show cells and corridors that were allegedly vandalized by the juvenile offender known by the pseudonym "Carlos". The recordings had been taken without the knowledge of the MZU and should not have been released. The public prosecutor's office had opened criminal proceedings against unknown persons in March (Werbewoche.ch reported). In the meantime, the PR consultant who had been hired by the Chief Juvenile Prosecutor's Office immediately after the outbreak of the "Carlos" affair as a crisis consultant with a temporary mandate is in the sights of the judiciary. The latter admitted to having been in possession of the pictures, but denied having passed them on.

In order for the public prosecutor's office to investigate for breach of official secrecy, the high court had to clarify the question of whether the crisis consultant exercised his mandate in an official capacity. According to Bouvard, this "official capacity" was confirmed when the senior public prosecutor's office granted the request for authorization. Still during the placement in Uitikon, a second special setting had been established for "Carlos". The 19-year-old was released from this in the meantime. Due to a complaint about the vandalized cell in the MZU, criminal proceedings are underway against him for damage to property. (SDA)

85 percent watched the World Cup matches on SRF

SRF reports positive results following the conclusion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil: The round of 16 match between Switzerland and Argentina generated the highest viewer interest, with a peak audience of over 1.8 million viewers.

The final match between Germany and Argentina was watched by an average of 1.42 million viewers, corresponding to a market share of 60.0%. In total, the million mark was broken five times. Public viewings and online live streams are not included in these figures.
