Zurich lets slithering ear flounder

Zurich Insurance and the Interpublic Group, together with the agencies FCB Zurich, MRM, and UM, launched a nationwide brand campaign on September 1.

Zurich Insurance's current campaign is always about protecting what is dear to you. The insurer's new web spot focuses on bicycles. The Swiss love their bicycles. Under the slogan "If you really love something, only the best protection counts", a story is told in which a rascal tries to steal a bicycle. But it remains an attempt. Because he didn't count on it: Swiss wrestler Matthias Glarner is also on the spot. Strongman Glarner, who has already appeared in other Zurich commercials, flexes his muscles again and literally lets the thief "run into the void". This is exactly the kind of protection Swiss customers want from their insurer.

The commercial is linked to a competition to win a PRICE bicycle worth CHF 2,000. This commercial is used exclusively in a digital context and links to Zurich.ch/love. The clip already recorded 96,373 views on the web on the first day. The web spot is flanked by the classic ATL campaign on TV, in cinemas and in print, which also focuses on the love of bicycles.

RTVG: Council of States clears up last differences

The new Radio and Television Act is in place: The Council of States has agreed to temporary exceptions to the fees, thereby settling the final difference. The deal is now ready for the final vote. However, the people could have the final say.

The new law brings a change to the system of radio and TV fees: all households must pay reception fees - regardless of whether they own radio or TV sets. Companies with an annual turnover of CHF 500,000 or more will also have to pay. As a result, it will no longer be possible to watch and listen on the black market in future and Billag checks will no longer be necessary. As the number of fee payers will be spread across more households and companies, the fee could be reduced from the current CHF 462 per household
and year to around CHF 400, the Federal Council had calculated. The system change is justified by the fact that radio and TV broadcasts can now also be listened to and watched on computers, tablets or smartphones.

Temporary exceptions

However, there will be exceptions for five years after the system change: Upon request, households can be exempted from the fee if they do not have a suitable device for receiving radio or television programs. This temporary exemption was proposed by the National Council. The Council of States had initially clearly rejected it. On Tuesday, however, it gave up its opposition and tacitly swung into line with the National Council. René Imoberdorf (CSP/VS), President of the preliminary consultation committee, stated on Tuesday that this would result in a loss of around CHF 16 million, which is a relatively modest amount. In addition, the burden of proof would be reversed. As before, indefinite exemptions apply to people who receive state supplementary benefits as well as those in need of care in nursing homes.

More money for private individuals

The majority of the approximately CHF 1.3 billion in annual reception fees goes to the SRG. However, private radio and television stations are to receive more in future: Instead of 4 percent as before, it will be 4 to 6 percent in future. The Federal Council had proposed 3 to 5 percent, but Parliament increased the share by one percentage point. The Federal Council had argued in favor of setting a bandwidth instead of a fixed figure so that surpluses can be used at a later date. This has not been the case to date. As a result, surpluses have accumulated in recent years - around CHF 45 million according to Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard. The Federal Council wanted to refund these to the fee payers. However, Parliament decided that the money should be used for education and training (25%) and to promote new broadcasting technologies (75%).

The requirement for local and regional licenses, according to which these may only be granted if the diversity of opinion and offerings is not jeopardized, has also been lifted. In future, in the event of several applications of equal value, the license will be awarded to the broadcaster that most enriches media diversity.

Referendum threatened

The bill had triggered hours of debate in parliament. The quality of individual SRF programs such as "Glanz & Gloria" was also discussed. In the National Council, a minority led by Natalie Rickli (SVP/ZH) voiced fundamental criticism. The Council of States and National Council each debated the bill twice until they reached an agreement. Whether the new Radio and Television Act (RTVA) will come into force in this form, however, is still up in the air. The "Stop Billag" campaign is considering a referendum; the trade association has also threatened one in the past. The latter opposes the idea that companies should also have to pay a device-independent fee. At present, only those who have a receiver are asked to pay. The GLP has already announced that it will reject the deal in the final vote for this reason, among others. (SDA)

Swiss produces short film about Air 14

Swiss considers its participation in the Air 14 air show a success. Using 38 onboard cameras, the airline produced an impressive short film.

From August 30 to September 7, Swiss International Air Lines welcomed around 50'000 visitors to the 1,000-square-meter Swiss stand at the Air 14 air show in Payerne. The Dream Job Street offered more than 7,500 Swiss schoolchildren an insight into the aviation industry. Swiss captured the best moments of the display flights of its Airbus A330-300 in formation with the F-5E Tigers of the Patrouille Suisse in an exclusive film.

The two display flights of the Swiss Airbus A330-300 HB-JHN, accompanied by six F-5E Tigers of the Patrouille Suisse, which celebrated its fiftieth anniversary, was undoubtedly one of the most impressive events of the Air 14 air show in Payerne. Swiss International Air Lines has produced a short film capturing the most spectacular images of the two flyovers. With the help of 38 cameras on board the seven aircraft, impressive images were captured. The production shows the nine pilots of the formation in their cockpits and allows the viewer to experience Air 14 from a spectacular perspective previously unknown to viewers.

A new artist agency on the Zurich creative scene

Artists Rep. represents national and international artists from a wide variety of creative fields. Founded by Katrin Walther, the talent agency has been officially active since August 2014 and already represents more than 15 creative professionals.

From photographers to illustrators, typographers, graphic designers, image editors, scenographers and filmmakers: According to the press release, Katrin Walther has a knack for her creative specialists. She does not focus on quantity, even if the agency portfolio might suggest it, but rather on being able to offer her clients a targeted selection of specialists from a wide range of creative fields. Each artist shines with their very own specialty and Katrin Walther demonstrates the courage to reduce things to the essentials. This emphasizes artistic individuality and creates clarity for agencies and clients. Although Artists Rep. has only been on the market for a month, the agency has already been able to work for renowned clients. For example, filmmaker Urs Rohner shot two commercials for the Zermatt Unplugged Festival through Artists Rep. and Giuliano di Marco photographed a campaign for Cembra Money Bank.

Katrin-Walther-g

The fact that former photographer Katrin Walther and her artists are one and the same has been demonstrated in recent years by the Swiss postcard and artist platform she founded. Petiteposte.com has already proven itself. According to the press release, more and more clients and agencies were approaching her because they wanted to work with her. The creation of the new ArtistsRep. division was thus born and was only the logical conclusion. Walther is delighted with Artists-rep.com to finally be able to go online officially.

Press Council: The end justified the means

A reporter for the newspaper *Die Zeit* pretended to be pregnant and sought advice about a possible abortion. The Press Council ruled that the undercover investigation was appropriate.

The Swiss Press Council has rejected a complaint by the Swiss Mother and Child Foundation against the Swiss edition of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit. In August 2013, the newspaper had reported on a pregnant woman's counseling session at the foundation. It was about abortion yes or no. The author posed as a woman seeking help, who is unintentionally pregnant out of wedlock.

According to the Press Council, the journalist was allowed to appear under a false identity in her self-experiment so that she could paint as authentic a picture of the consultation as possible. This is all the more so because the foundation was able to comment in detail and prominently on the content of the undercover research. When are media representatives allowed to become actors themselves in an undercover investigation? Exceptionally, according to the Press Council. First, the public interest in the researched information must prevail. Second, the journalist must not be able to obtain the information by any other means. Third, he must maintain the proportionality between the invasion of privacy and the public's interest in this information.

Trio continues Sil campaign

The Trio agency has launched a competition for Lausanne-based industrial company Sil in which the worst experience wins. This marks the second round of a campaign launched in 2012.

Back in 2012, Trio ran a campaign for Lausanne's industrial companies that focused on everyday mishaps (Werbewoche.ch reported). For example: a nasty surprise in the laundry room, a toddler as a hairdresser or ice cream time in the marital bed. Because the Sil take care of the real everyday lives of their customers. In a second wave, Trio again pursues a concept that involves the audience directly: "And you? Tell us your funniest anecdote on Sil-et-vous.ch and win super prizes!" The competition is already underway and is being supported with posters, web presences and radio spots. Until September 21, the Sil are making themselves accomplices to your most spectacular everyday events...

Last but not least: The illustrator's bull terrier

Brazilian illustrator Rafael Mantesso creates charming illustrations featuring his dog. At least, the dog doesn't seem to mind.

It all began with a divorce: When Rafael's wife left him, all the household goods followed her. What remained was an empty house with white walls - and Jimmy Choo, the friendly bull terrier. The story sounds a bit like that of a pretty bad movie. With the difference that the evil woman in the movie would probably have taken the dog with her - out of principle, of course. Back to real life: So Rafael was left with an empty house and a dog with the name of a shoe designer. As the poor man had nothing else, he had no choice but to devote himself to artistically decorating his four-legged best friend. He draws on paper and the dog then lies down in the right place. And in doing so, he also helps to put this breed, which is often wrongly denigrated as dangerous but is actually very lovable, in the light it deserves. (hae)

Billag to collect radio and TV fees until 2017

Anyone with a radio or television connection will continue to receive mail from Billag at least once a year until 2017. The Swisscom subsidiary will remain responsible for collecting the fee until the new system takes effect.

The contract between Billag and the federal government, which would have expired at the end of 2014, has been extended until 2017, the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) announced in July. It made sense to leave the mandate with Billag, it said at the time. If the mandate were to be reassigned for only three years, other companies would not be able to perform this task profitably in view of the effort and amortization costs for infrastructure, IT and personnel. Since the contract extension is a mere addition to the previous contract, it was awarded by private treaty, as permitted by the Ordinance on Public Procurement. On the other hand, the mandate of the future collection agency will be put out to public tender when a new levy system comes into force. (SDA)

Audience Council missed the war in the factory

To mark the outbreak of World War I, SRF is airing a variety of programs throughout the year on life a hundred years ago and the start of the war. The Audience Council reviewed two series and responded to them with mostly positive feedback.

anno-gross

"Anno 1914 - The Factory"

The summer project on the broadcasting slot of "Schweiz aktuell" focused on the historical microcosm of a weaving factory and the owner family's associated villa. Five professional actors and actresses and many so-called experience figures were to bring the time of a hundred years ago to life. The three-week series was entertaining and partly instructive, even if - contrary to the expectations of the audience council - World War I was hardly mentioned. Thanks to a predefined script, the programs developed more excitingly than in previous summer series. On the other hand, the dramaturgy was criticized for the fact that both the professional actors and the characters did not really arrive in 1914 and the gravity of the time was not felt enough. There was unanimous praise for the moderator Michael Weinmann and also the historian Hans-Peter Treichler convinced with his expert knowledge. The audience council also positively mentioned the wealth of information on the website.

anno-

"1914: World War I and the Aftermath".

SRF's offerings on World War 1 and its aftermath included numerous radio and television programs and online contributions in 2014. The Audience Council mainly observed the Radio SRF 2 Kultur theme day on June 28, 2014, the reading of Meinrad Inglin's "Schweizerspiegel" and feature films on SRF 1. The Council is impressed by the excellent performance of SRF, namely Radio SRF 2 Kultur, because World War 1 was dealt with broadly and comprehensively with many facets. It was pleasant that not only the men in power and the soldiers in the war were reported, but also what this war meant for women and families. The council members expressed criticism or regret about one point in particular: the broadcasts and also the excellent online information were - in contrast to "Anno 1914 - Die Fabrik" - hardly communicated. It is a pity when such a good public service does not reach the general public.

SRF: Two new faces in the glass box

The team hosting this year's «Every Rappen Counts» fundraising campaign consists of Nik Hartmann, Tina Nägeli, and Philippe Gerber. They will be broadcasting from the glass booth in Lucerne for a week.

jrz-crew-g

This year, the glass box will be inhabited by SRF 3 presenters Nik Hartmann, Tina Nägeli and Philippe Gerber. Tina Nägeli has been deputizing for hit parade presenter Michel Birri for a year now and has recently started appearing on the daily program and in the music specials. There she lives out her love and expertise for music. Philippe Gerber has been a presenter on Radio SRF 3 for six years, hosting the morning shows, cooking once a week with Jann Hofmann and regularly presenting the "Best Talents" in "CH-Special". Tina Nägeli and Philippe Gerber are taking part for the first time. Nik Hartmann, the guarantor of unforgettable JRZ moments, has been with us since the first minute of JRZ and is back in the glass box for the fifth time. From Wednesday to Tuesday, December 17 to 23, 2014, the three presenters will be welcoming guests from the worlds of music, sport, politics, business and society, as well as thousands of donors big and small from all over Switzerland.

Families on the run

This year, "JRZ" is collecting money for families who have had to leave their homes due to armed conflicts or violence and are on the run. In 2013, more than 50 million people worldwide were forced to flee their homes for fear of their lives and those of their loved ones. Of these, 33 million were so-called internally displaced persons, meaning that they left their place of residence and fled to another region of their country. Over eleven million fled across national borders and are therefore referred to as refugees.

People who leave everything behind from one moment to the next in order to protect their lives and those of their families are in great need and require protection and survival aid. Swiss Solidarity will use the money raised to finance aid projects run by its partner relief organizations, which will primarily provide these families with support in the form of food, water, shelter, medical and psychological help, as well as improving living conditions in the refugee camps and host communities.

Contexta: Two, three or four friends you shall be

With SBB's autumn offer, groups of up to four people benefit from discounted day tickets. Contexta promotes the action with a campaign.

With the Day Pass Plus, you can travel throughout Switzerland this fall in pairs for just 89 francs, in threes for 20 francs more, and in fours for another 20 francs more, or 129 francs. The only condition: One of the travelers must have a Half-Fare Card.

Contexta is currently promoting this extremely attractive SBB leisure offer, which is therefore limited in time, with a TV spot that explains a specific product in a way that is as didactic as it is funny. At its center are two friends in a red double T-shirt, who are joined by two other friends on their little Tour de Suisse. So we see them first on a leisurely ride on the Zurich lake, then on a bizarre-looking stream crossing, and finally on a breathtaking Chilbi track. The campaign's motto "Benefit together" is also taken up by the associated POS campaign, in which at least two friends can have their picture taken in front of a photo wall wearing a double T-shirt and win a Day Pass Plus if their picture receives the most likes on the SBB Facebook page.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYYq6EtNpqs

The spot will run until October 19 on Swiss television and on the e-boards of major Swiss train stations and will also be flanked by POS posters, campaign brochures and advertisements.
