Marketing and communications industry: Wages rise sharply at a young age

This year, the third edition of the Jobs.ch salary barometer pays particular attention to the aspect of age. The marketing and communications sector differs from other industries.

Most important finding in the overall overview, across all occupational groups: The age group between 25 and 44 benefits by far from the largest wage increases. After the age of 55, income largely stagnates. On the basis of voluntary information on the income of more than 100,000 registered members Jobs.ch has determined the latest trends. According to the study, the Swiss receive the biggest salary jumps - at an average of 22 percent - between the age groups 25 - 34 (∅ 74'700 francs) and 35 - 44 (∅ 91'500 francs). To the next age group of 45 - 54 (∅ 100'000 francs), the increase is then only 9 percent. After 55, income stagnates regardless of the chosen profession. "This is a surprising finding, as it contradicts the widespread prejudice that representatives of the older generation cause high wage costs," explains Mark Sandmeier, CEO of Jobcloud, the online company that owns Jobs.ch and Jobup.ch.

The professional group decides

However, salary increases do not follow this pattern in every industry - in the construction/architecture/engineering sector, for example, salary increases tend to be lower and hardly ever exceed the 10 percent mark. In the marketing and communications sector, on the other hand, salaries in younger age groups between 25 and 44 rise quite sharply by around 34 percent: from 25 - 34 with an average of 81'100 francs to an average of 108'700 francs in the 35 - 44 age group. One explanation for this could be the lower entry-level salaries in this sector. On the other hand, income stagnates from the age of 55.

Esther Girsberger takes over Speakers.ch

Effective November 1, 2014, Ellinor v. Kauffungen and Marcel Naegler will hand over the speakers and moderators agency Speakers.ch to Esther Girsberger.

Seven years ago, Ellinor v. Kauffungen and Marcel Naegler Speakers.ch was taken over. The owners have transformed the agency, which is primarily active on the Swiss market, into a public limited company and have continued to develop it. The customer base has been expanded and the pool of speakers and moderators has been enlarged, so that today around 400 events are held annually with the participation of Speakers.ch. Matthias Wipf joined the team three years ago, and Maude Righi joined in 2013 to ensure Speakers.ch's presence in French-speaking Switzerland with the "Antenne Suisse Romande" in Auvernier NE.

This era will come to an end on November 1, 2014. The previous owners will transfer 100% of the shares to Esther Girsberger and will step down from the Board of Directors on this date - to start her third phase of life with peace of mind, as detailed in a press release. The new owner will take over operational management. Matthias Wipf and Maude Righi will continue their work and remain on board.

Esther Girsberger has a doctorate in law, but switched to journalism early on. After working for the NZZ, the Sonntagszeitung and the Berner Bund, she was deputy editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief at the Tages-Anzeiger. Esther Girsberger has been self-employed as a presenter, lecturer and publicist since 2008.

Last but not least: Social Breast Checking

October 1 is International Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Two campaigns from Singapore and London encourage women to perform regular self-exams.

If women checked their breasts as often as their smartphones, many cases of breast cancer could be prevented. So says a campaign by DDB Singapore. Although it probably wouldn't even be necessary - considering that, according to the study published on Tuesday Smartphone infographic Swiss women use their smartphone 85 times on average and probably "check" Facebook, Twitter and Instagram just as often. And - in contrast to early detection - it's not even a matter of life and death. You don't have to take the campaign too literally - the simple, meaningful graphics convey the message directly to the recipient anyway.

McCann chose a similar message to motivate regular self-monitoring on behalf of Nestlé Fitness. In London, the agency hid a camera near a test subject's décolleté and filmed her daily routine. The not particularly surprising, but sometimes amusing result: the tester's environment seemed to be noticeably interested in her bust size. Not only men, but also women and even children took a quick look at what was on show. The conclusion this time: if everyone else is constantly "checking out" their own breasts, women might as well do it themselves. I wonder if this also applies to women with less revealing cleavages? M&C Saatchi: New packaging for Incarom

The Geneva-based agency M&C Saatchi has created a new packaging design for the traditional coffee brand Incarom.

Incarom, a traditional brand from Nestlé Switzerland, is a unique drink with its blend of soluble coffee and chicory. For 70 years now, its consumers have enjoyed its taste and effect.

Nestlé Switzerland has decided to give Incarom a new lease of life starting this year. The first milestone on this path is new packaging. M&C Saatchi in Geneva was mandated to implement the new packaging by means of a preliminary pitch and the positive results of consumer tests. With its vintage look, the new pack design not only won over a new, younger target group, but also did very well with existing consumers.

In the familiar color codes, but with straight lines and a revised logo, the new packaging is characterized by freshness and simplicity. The "rejuvenated " Incarom range can be found in the retail trade as metal box, refill pouch and portion stick. Soon, the new look will also be seen on POS material. M&C Saatchi has also been commissioned to develop a new communication campaign, which will be unveiled towards the end of the year.

Partnership between Cineman and Daily Movies

Cineman Romandie and the Western Swiss cinema magazine Daily Movies are entering into a close editorial partnership with immediate effect. Both titles will remain independent.

The purely editorial collaboration - centered around the exchange of top formats such as news, reviews interviews and festival coverage - does not change the independence of Cineman Romandie and Daily Movies, according to the statement; however, it should allow both titles to do even more for cinema culture in Switzerland, something they have been committed to for many years. Last but not least: Help, it's very human

If you happen to be in London on Tuesday, you can try burgers that (are supposed to) taste like human flesh. Bon appétit!

In the successful series "The Walking Dead", a small group of survivors fight their way through a world populated by the undead after a global zombie apocalypse. The US production has been thrilling millions of viewers worldwide since 2010, has been showered with awards and has brought the zombie mythology to new heights of popularity. Zombies are resurrected, soulless dead people who want to take revenge on the living for various reasons. Anyone who is killed by a zombie - similar to vampires - becomes a zombie themselves and from then on hunts down those who are not infected. The special feature: Zombies eat people.

To celebrate the fifth season, advertisers have launched a macabre but sensational campaign. On September 30, 2014, burgers that are supposed to taste like human meat can be purchased in a London restaurant. The taste of the meat was based on descriptions from people who have eaten human meat. For example, the journalist William Buehler Seabrook, who died in 1945, wrote that the meat tasted "like good veal, not too young, but not yet beef". Buehler Seabrook, who studied cannibalism extensively, said that he took the opportunity to taste human flesh on a trip to Africa.

Based on the descriptions, chef James Thomlinson created a burger whose meat is a mixture of veal, beef and pork. Blogger Joe Bish was at the Tests in the process.

The burgers will be sold at the Terminus Tavern, a location based on the series where the fourth season ended. The location will be announced shortly beforehand via Twitter. The question remains as to whether the burgers are really comparable to human meat. The question can actually remain unanswered. (hae)

Silverspot: 3D animated TV spot for Qualipet

Does a cat know what's really good for it? The new Silverspot production for Qualipet proves it—thanks in part to state-of-the-art 3D animation.

Here, the cat resists various treats and struts on a gourmet table straight toward Hill's Science Plan cat food from Qualipet. "Working with animals sometimes requires a lot of patience. Cats in particular not only have the proverbial mind of their own. The realization of the spot, also thanks to state-of-the-art 3D animation, was an exciting challenge that we gladly accepted and are very satisfied with the result," says CEO Remo Civatti. The Qualipets Hill's Science Plan product is designed to meet the nutritional and energy needs of cats.

Suisa has been in dispute with Energy for two years

Energy Schweiz has been in a dispute with the music rights organization Suisa over copyright royalties for two years. Energy Managing Director Dani Büchi continues to deny all allegations.

Suisa has operated Energy Switzerland for around 633'500 francs. Suisa spokesman Giorgio Tebaldi confirmed on Monday a report in the Sunday newspaper (Werbewoche.ch reported). Energy has filed a legal complaint against the debt collection. According to Tebaldi, the reason for the dispute is the copyright fees to be paid for events such as "Stars for Free", the open air "Energy Open", "Energy Live Session" or the "Energy Fashion Show", in which music acts perform. "We are basically of the opinion that the Energy Group already remunerates the copyright contributions for these events via the annual levies of the radios," Dani Büchi, managing director of the Energy Group, informed the company upon request. This is actually the customary practice. If this is not the case, Energy believes that Suisa's assumptions for calculating the fees are wrong, or that the fees are set much too high. In addition, Energy is aware of comparable events to which Suisa applies different and significantly lower standards.

No immediate end for events

According to Büchi, it is not the case that the Energy events can no longer be held immediately because of the additional payment to Suisa. However, the individual event budgets would not allow for such a substantially higher expense item without corresponding additional revenues. Energy Switzerland provides various services for the benefit of all radio stations associated with the Energy Group, including services related to the staging of events. For all Energy events, tickets cannot be purchased, only won. According to Büchi, the qualification of these services and Energy Switzerland's role in staging events are part of ongoing discussions with Suisa. The music collecting society collects copyright royalties from event organizers in order to provide composers, authors and music publishers with the royalties to which they are entitled. Energy Schweiz is wholly owned by Energy Schweiz Holding. The publishing house Ringier holds a 65 percent stake. NRJ, Europe's largest private radio company based in Paris, holds 35 percent. (SDA)
