Eurobest: Six times bronze for Switzerland

At the Eurobest Festival of Creativity in Helsinki, the Swiss agencies Publicis, JWT/Fabrikant, Leo Burnett and Jung von Matt/Limmat were awarded bronze a total of six times.

This means that the local agencies bring home significantly fewer awards than last year2013, but there is no gold or silver in the bag either. DDB was awarded Network of the Year ahead of Publicis and McCann. The most successful agency is - just as at this year's Epica Awards - Adam&Eve DDB London. The number one independent agency is Forsman & Bodenfors from Götheborg, ahead of the two Hamburg creative houses Kolle Rebbe and Jung von Matt.

The character "#" is "Swiss Word of the Year

One example is the «Swiss Word of the Year 2014.» A six-member jury led by Radio SRF 3 selected the hashtag #—also known as “Gartenhag”—from well over 1,000 nominations.

# has been in common use in social media for some time and appears to be a sign of contemporary communication, Swiss radio SRF wrote in a statement on Wednesday. For the jury, # stands for an increasing condensation, even keywording of language. The symbol also stands for the fact that young people today get to the point quickly and "that everyone communicates everything at any time, even very private things," the statement said. However, many things also became public last year that basically no one wanted to know.

Unword of the Year: "Density Stress

The jury also crowned the "Unword of the Year. In this category, "density stress" won the race. The jury wrote that it was tired of the expression and found that "anyone who wants to build a garden shed around our country, as it were, and complains about "density stress" in tranquil Switzerland has never experienced such a thing." The phrase of the year was coined by meteorologists this summer: "It remains unsettled." The jury particularly liked this expression because it contains a contradiction and thus characterizes the major weather situation in this country quite well, according to the statement.

The "Swiss Word of the Year" campaign has been held under the direction of SRF 3 since 2003. The jury this year included Martin Suter, Pedro Lenz, Bänz Friedli, Hazel Brugger, Daniel Quaderer and Ursula Schubiger. (SDA)

The Cover Media: Snowstorm at the Lyssach Center

TCM Productions Studio produced Inter Discount's Christmas commercials in Lyssach. Thirteen St. Nicholases were on the job.

When cinnamon, orange and vanilla aromas dominate, Christmas is just around the corner. Behind the doors of the Lyssach shopping center, however, snow was already falling at the beginning of October. The TV commercials for the current Advent season were realized for Interdiscount in an elaborate production. The Interdiscount branch in the shopping center was the filming location and backdrop for snow flurries, lots of Santa Clauses and the film crew. The commercials will be on air for four weeks and, in addition to the wintry Christmas atmosphere, will show selected Advent offers on a weekly basis.

Microsoft strengthens Programmatic Advertising

Microsoft Advertising Switzerland is expanding and has hired Hannes Eckardt as Sales Solution Specialist for Switzerland and Austria in the growing programmatic advertising segment.

In the newly created role, Eckardt is responsible for the strategic and operational development and growth of the Programmatic Advertising business unit at the global marketer of digital advertising space in Switzerland. The field of activity covers the entire business development as well as the sales process - from lead generation to closing and after-sales support for advertisers, agencies, trading desks and channel partners.

The 35-year-old comes from the international advertising marketer Publicitas Basel, where he was initially responsible for the Swiss market for the last four years and later, as Digital Sales Director EMEA, drove the digital media business in Europe, looked after blue chip clients and also successfully established the Programmatic Advertising business area. Before that, the business administration graduate had already worked as an international sales representative for digital media such as Spiegel Online; another station was Havas Media in Frankfurt.

According to Vanessa Marr, Managing Director of Microsoft Advertising Switzerland, the company intends to strongly expand its position in the area of programmatic advertising in the coming year. "With our high qualitative benchmarks as well as our well-known products Skype, MSN, Outlook.com and Xbox Live, we are ideally equipped for our market partners - the agencies, trading desks and also advertisers - to meet the increasing market demand for quality in the programmatic advertising environment," says Marr, who has been at the helm of the marketer since November (Werbewoche.ch reported).

Mental illness brought to the fore

More and more people are being excluded from the workforce and society due to mental health challenges. With a new campaign, Pro Infirmis and Jung von Matt/Limmat are shining a spotlight on mental health challenges.

The barely two-minute film shows a day in the life of a severely depressed man who can hardly get out of bed, locks himself in the toilet to avoid contact, and can no longer feel the kisses of his children.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5FFxlIgAB4

Unlike physical disabilities, mental impairments are virtually invisible to outsiders. However, depression or another mental illness can have an equally disabling effect on the lives of those affected and their relatives. If symptoms persist, consequences can include unemployment and loss of wealth and social contacts. People in this situation are usually denied participation in social and economic life. "Disability always has two sides. On the one hand, there is the physical or mental illness and, on the other, there is the passive obstruction by society, which excludes people with disabilities from life," explains Mark Zumbühl, Head of Communications at Pro Infirmis.

Jung von Matt/Limmat and Pro Infirmis were also able to engage Swiss film director Alain Gsponer ("Akte Grüninger", "Lila Lila", "Heidi") for the new film under the motto "Come closer. The new film shows the everyday life of a successful employee and family man who suffers from depression. Those affected repeatedly describe the feeling of inner emptiness, as if they were only a shell. The film takes up this motif. The use of actor Matthias Bernhold in the film is brief. Until the end of the film, only a deceptively real figure of the man can be seen. Only in the final frame do actor Bernhold and the figure meet.

This is not the first spot that Jung von Matt/Limmat has produced for Pro Infirmis together with Alain Gsponer. The films "Bear" and "Mannequins" will soon reach 30 million views on YouTube. Despite the difficult subject matter, the latest film is also intended to get people thinking and talking about it again. The new film is now available in cinemas and online in German, French, Italian and English versions. In addition to the film on YouTube and in cinemas, the disease depression is also made a topic in print and online in a wide variety of applications.

In addition, Pro Infirmis, in collaboration with the University Psychiatric Clinics Basel and 20 Minuten, will be conducting a Study on the topic of mental illness. The results will be woven into public relations work parallel to the campaign. The new Pro Infirmis campaign and the topic of mental illnesses were also the subject of the discussion round in the "Club" on Swiss television SRF 1 on Tuesday, December 2, 2014.

Responsible at Pro Infirmis: Mark Zumbühl (Head of Communications & Member of GL), Bettina Konetschnig (Communications Consultant, Social Media Officer). Responsible at Jung von Matt/Limmat: Alexander Jaggy (Executive Creative Direction), Samuel Wicki (Text), Lukas Frischknecht, Reto Oetterli, David Hanselmann (Art Direction), Amaru Eslava (Graphics), Marco Dettling, Roman Meister (Consulting), Sarida Bossoni (Agency Producer), Deborah Herzig (Art Buying), Alexander Gligorijevic, Nicole Hoppler, Julia Fischhaber (PR Consulting), Pumpkin Films (Film Production), Alain Gsponer (Direction), CFX Productions (Sculpture), Manna Horsting (Song), Sizzer Amsterdam (Music Production), Hastings (Recording Studio), Konnex (Media).

Advertising agency creates campaign for ViiV Healtcare

To ensure that HIV is not forgotten, the advertising agency Werbeanstalt has launched a campaign for this year's World AIDS Day on behalf of ViiV Healthcare.

The number of new HIV infections continues to fall steadily, and experts believe that it may even end by 2030. Nevertheless, according to UN figures, 35 million people in the world are currently living with the dangerous HIV virus. The number of new HIV infections worldwide has fallen by 38 percent since 2001 to 2.1 million in 2013. In Switzerland, the number of HIV diagnoses also decreased last year. But still, the number of HIV diagnoses in Switzerland is above average compared to Europe. The fact that the disease cannot be cured, but that one can at least lead a normal life with the latest medications, makes people easily become more careless.

Last but not least: Brown bears

Last but not least: Collapsing poster structures

The anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall was also celebrated in Portugal. A sensational poster installation advertised the accompanying special edition.

The fall of the Berlin Wall - a perennial topic. Especially in the anniversary year 2014 - here too, of course. Back in June, we reported on the Photo project by BBDO Berlin. And at the beginning of November Titanic-against-picture-wall-fall-special-number-swap of the satirical party Die Partei. Incidentally, the campaign was a great success and the exchanged newspapers were neatly deposited in front of Bild editorial offices throughout Germany.

There were special editions to mark the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall not only in Germany, but also in other countries. In Portugal, for example. After all, the fall of the Wall not only reunited a divided country, but actually the whole world. The weekly magazine Sábado dedicated a special issue to the memorable 25th anniversary. That's nice. But the campaign with which the agency MSTF-Partners Lisbon promoted the magazine was even better: In the cities of Lisbon and Porto, two poster stands were made to "collapse" - analogous to the wall. And left up for a week with the corresponding motif. Outdoor advertising with symbolic power - and guaranteed reflection. In contrast to the wall, the toppled objects were pulled up again after the end of the campaign and neatly restored. After all, they have to last at least another 25 years and delight society with good tidings. (hae)
