Scholz & Friends makes history with FCB

For the first time in its successful history, Scholz & Friends is collaborating with FC Basel to produce a comprehensive yearbook titled "Rotblau.".

The publication comprises over 400 pages and gives an in-depth insight into the current season, the players, the staff as well as the history of the club with the most important events, protagonists, facts and figures and all the way back to the founding year 1893. The book was developed under the editorship of long-time press officer Josef Zindel and has been very well received by the supporters and the environment of FC Basel 1893 since its launch, according to a statement.

After the website, the monthly publication, and many design implementations in and around the St. Jakob Park, the yearbook forms another building block in the re-design of the current visual appearance of the traditional Basel club developed by Scholz & Friends.

Exxtra: Audi laser light as a weapon against darkness

Exxtra has created a campaign for Audi that effectively highlights the automaker's new laser light technology.

The countdown is on. There's just under a year to go until the new "Star Wars" hits theaters. And with it, the famous laser sword. Audi will also be using lasers as a weapon against the dark side in the future: The Audi R8 LMX is Audi's first production car whose headlights feature laser light technology, a groundbreaking innovation in lighting technology. With twice the range of conventional LED high beams, the laser light cuts a safer path through the darkness with greater brightness, concentration and precision. May the Force be with all Audi drivers.

Havas: A compelling ad for Tibet

For the GSTF Swiss-Tibetan Friendship Society, Havas Worldwide Zurich gives new meaning to the "Made in China" business label.

The motif, which shows a Tibetan monk in handcuffs, is intended to encourage people not to lose sight of the human rights situation in Tibet despite good economic relations with China.

Last but not least: Band of Brands

Newcastle Brown Ale is calling on small, local brands to join the "Band of Brands" alliance. The aim is to use the joint marketing budgets to crack the Super Bowl.

At last year's Super Bowl, the beer brand shone with the concept "If we made it" - instead of running one of the sinfully expensive TV commercials, Newcastle Brown Ale limited itself to explaining in advance with an extensive campaign how elaborate a possible commercial would have been. All in all, the whole campaign attracted at least as much attention as the much-publicized Super Bowl films, where the broadcast alone (30 seconds) devours three to four million dollars - not to mention the high production costs.

This year, the Droga5 agency has once again come up with something special for its client and is launching the "Band of Brands" association. The idea behind it: Newcastle is calling on brands to "buy into" the planned Super Bowl spot with their budget. Twenty to thirty brands will be integrated into the commercial for the most important advertising event of the year. "Find out how our Brand can help your Brand help our Brand... most importantly" proclaims actress Aubrey Plaza in the wonderful explanatory video, which is intended to motivate other brands to get involved by January 19. Newcastlebandofbrands.com to apply. It will be interesting to see the result. The Super Bowl 2015 will take place on February 1. (hae)

No trademark right to "Je suis Charlie"

In France, there will be no trademark rights for the "Je suis Charlie" statement of solidarity, which has been circulating worldwide since the bloody attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Applications to this effect have been rejected.

This was because they did not meet the necessary criteria, the French Institute for the Protection of Intellectual Property (INPI) announced on Tuesday. The slogan could not be used commercially by a market participant because it was already in widespread collective use. According to the INPI, numerous applications for trademark rights for the "Je suis Charlie" logo or allusions to it have been filed since the attack on Wednesday last week. However, they have not been registered because they do not meet the requirement that trademark law requires a "distinctive character". The AFP news agency learned from informed sources on Monday evening that over 50 applications for the "Je suis Charlie" logo had already been submitted. According to the short message service Twitter, one application, for example, was submitted by an industrialist who manufactures scales, fire extinguishers and spectacle cases, among other things.

The logo was created a few minutes after the attack on Charlie Hebdo by Joachim Roncin, the artistic director of the free magazine Stylist. The three words are printed in white and gray with the typical characters of the satirical magazine on a black background. Roncin said in a tweet that anyone was free to use the statement of solidarity, but that he would regret any "mercantile use". The logo, which has achieved sad fame, is already emblazoned on numerous T-shirts, stickers and pendants that have come onto the market since the attack last Wednesday. Such products were offered by hawkers during the mass demonstrations on Sunday. In addition, websites such as Jesuischarlie.fr, Jesuischarlie.com and Jesuischarlie.org were created on the day of the attack. According to Twitter France, it has also already been featured on more than five million short messages. (SDA)

Jasmin Barbiero back at Radio Top

Jasmin Barbiero, a 31-year-old from eastern Switzerland, will become deputy program director at Radio Top at the beginning of February 2015. She is already the fourth former employee to rejoin the Top team within a year.

Starting next month, a familiar voice will return to Radio Top's broadcast area: Jasmin Barbiero will once again be heard regularly on the daytime program and the morning show. She will also be the new deputy to program director Corinne Wacker. Jasmin Barbiero was already a presenter at Radio Top from 2011 to 2013. After a detour to the St.Gallen station FM1, Barbiero is now returning to Radio Top.

She thus continues a series that is pleasing from the station's point of view: About a year ago, Corinne Wacker already returned to Radio Top as program manager. In recent months, Thomas Kämpfer and Pia Gerteis have also resumed their work as sales managers and presenters respectively. All of them had already worked for Top Medien in earlier years.

In addition to Barbiero, Giulia Staub is also new to Radio. The 22-year-old from Zurich most recently completed an internship at Radio Zürisee and before that completed the moderation course at Toxic FM and worked at SRF in the multimedia center.

Premiere: SRF shows Women's World Cup

The 2015 federal elections are a key focus of SRF’s 2015 annual program. In addition to women’s soccer, there are various new shows, such as the crime drama «Das Team.» TV viewership figures were also impressive last year.

"Wahlfahrt" is the name of a four-part television program in September: Mona Vetsch drives top politicians around the country and interviews them. And Radio SRF wants to get to know the party presidents better in "President's Breakfast" - also from a personal perspective. Both productions aim to appeal to people who don't normally pay much attention to elections and politics. However, these are just two of numerous programs for the elections on October 18: among other things, a 12-hour live broadcast is planned for election Sunday. An election barometer will also be produced four times - in April, June, September and October. The show "The greatest Swiss talents" will be relaunched on television. Former football coach Gilbert Gress and presenter Sven Epiney are two new members of the jury alongside DJ Bobo and Christa Rigozzi.

Doc about Matterhorn first ascent drama

Six new SRF television films will be broadcast next year - including two Swiss "Tatort" episodes, as SRF Director Rudolf Matter told the media in Zurich on Tuesday. These episodes do not include "Tatort Matterhorn": The two-part docu-film is about the fatal drama surrounding the first ascent of the Matterhorn on July 14, 1865, where four alpinists fell to their deaths under unexplained circumstances. But there is also a new thriller: "The Team". SRF has co-produced a trans-European four-part series. It is broadcast on Saturday evenings. Carlos Leal is part of the cast.

From a sporting point of view, women's football takes center stage on SRF television this summer. There will be extensive coverage of the FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada. The Swiss women's team has qualified for the finals - a first. The Women's Ice Hockey World Championship in Malmö is already on the program in the spring.

Audience favorite SRF

According to user data, SRF television was the clear favorite of the Swiss-German TV audience last year. The three channels SRF1, SRF2 and SRF Info achieved a combined market share of 32.2 percent. According to SRF Director Matter, the figure for the main evening was 41% - more than the next seven competitors combined. SRF is also the leader among younger audiences on the main evening. Time-shifted television accounted for just under five percent of total usage last year, as SRF spokesperson Andrea Wenger said on request. At the end of 2013, it was a good 4.4 percent. According to Matter, the SRF website is also in demand. On average, five SRF livestream or on-demand offerings were launched every second. Radio SRF's listener data was not yet available on Tuesday. As Matter said, Mediapulse intends to revise the figures and publish them at the beginning of February. (SDA)

Journalists' organizations demand compliance with labor law

Labor inspectorates in German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino are to inspect all newsrooms not covered by collective bargaining agreements to determine whether companies are complying with labor law. This is being called for by the Syndicom union and the Impressum journalists' association.

Without a collective labor agreement (CLA), the law is the only way to protect the health of media workers, the two organizations wrote in a statement Tuesday. In addition, Syndicom and Impressum launched a petition to the Swiss Media Association. After ten years of a contractless state, negotiations for a CLA should be held again.

Hanspeter Lebrument, President of the Swiss Media Association, said in response to a question that a sectoral CLA was not up for discussion. If an individual publisher wants to negotiate a CLA with employee representatives, there is nothing to stop it.

Last year, the unions had used various actions to draw attention to the "increasingly poor working conditions of journalists". Charges were filed against several media companies. In response, some employers have introduced working time recording. Where there are problems with labor laws, these should be settled between the publisher and the employees, Lebrument said. Labor laws must be complied with - whether with or without a CLA. There is no connection there. A new collective labor agreement for journalists has been in force in French-speaking Switzerland since 2014. (SDA)

Last but not least: Puppy subscription

Convenient: The online service «Puppy Swap» provides customers with puppies—and picks them up again when they’re older and no longer so cute.

We all know it: Dogs are particularly adorable when they are puppies. The big paws, the soft fur - you want to cuddle them all day long. As they get older, the cuddly effect soon comes to an end: the little pups have become adult mammals that take a lot of time, cost a lot of money and, in most cases, are no longer really cute. An app like "Puppy Swap" comes at just the right time. The Canadian online service ensures that its customers can only enjoy the good side of the dog business - and swaps annoying old dogs without any complications. But take a look for yourself:

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1P7f27-zHg

A supposed absurdity turns out to be real - advertising can do it. And it does: the Canadian agency Grip Limited shows that many people give worryingly little thought to acquiring a pet, even without an app. As a result, 180,000 animals end up in homes in Canada every year - and 40 percent stay there. For most of them, the friendships were probably great at the beginning and flattened out at some point. But a dog is not a games console that you put away in the cupboard after a year or two, bored. You should really know by now. In Switzerland, by the way, there are over 20,000 animals a year (as at 2012) - also more than enough. (hae)

Charlie Hebdo not in Switzerland until Thursday

The special edition of Charlie Hebdo will not be available in Switzerland until Thursday. In German-speaking Switzerland, delivery will not take place until Friday, as the relevant authorities announced on Tuesday in response to an inquiry.

In France, the magazine is published on Wednesday, exactly one week after the attack. Due to the huge worldwide demand, a total of three million copies are printed. In French-speaking Switzerland, 5000 orders were received, seven times more than usual. A spokesman for the newsstand operator Naville Presse confirmed a corresponding report by the French-speaking Swiss radio and television station RTS. Numerous customers had already reserved a copy at the kiosk. In German-speaking Switzerland, a thousand copies have been ordered, according to press distributor 7Days Media Services. However, the retailer has only agreed to supply 800 copies.

Special edition with Mohammed caricatures

One week after the attack, the satirical magazine is back with a drawing of Mohammed on the front. The publisher announced a record print run of three million copies for this Wednesday - the usual figure was around 60,000 copies. The cover of the satirical magazine, published in advance, shows a drawing of the Prophet Mohammed holding a sign with the words "Je suis Charlie" in his hands, mourning and with a tear in his eye. "Tout est pardonné" (All is forgiven) is written above the drawing.

Sharp criticism from Egypt

Egyptian Islamic scholars reacted with harsh criticism to the announced new edition of the magazine. This "unjustified provocation of 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide" will trigger a new wave of hatred in French and Western societies, explained the important religious institution Dar al-Ifta in Cairo. The terrorist group Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQMI) threatened further attacks on France on the Internet. It is paying the price for the occupation of Muslim land in Mali and Central Africa and the bombing of Muslims in Iraq and Syria, it continued.

Muslim clerics from France called on their communities to remain calm and respect freedom of expression. However, some expressed concern about the depiction of Muhammad, which many Muslims believe is generally prohibited. "Any responsible Muslim will find this difficult to accept. But we shouldn't ban it," said Abdelbaki Attaf, who is responsible for a mosque in Gennevilliers near Paris. The house of prayer was also occasionally visited by one of the Charlie Hebdo attackers, Chérif Kouachi.

Industry associations call for commemorative events

Swiss journalists, represented by their industry associations, are organizing commemorative events in various cities in Switzerland on Wednesday, 14 January 2015 at 11:30 am. Exactly one week after the attacks on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, the events are intended to remind people of the importance of freedom of the press and freedom of expression for a democratic society, according to a press release from the journalists' association Impressum. The commemorative event in Bern will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Waisenhausplatz, with further events in Lausanne (Place de l'Europe, 11:30 a.m.) and Sion (Place de la Planta, 11:20 a.m.). A minute's silence will also be held in some editorial offices. (SDA/hae)
