Two media congresses are merged

The Swiss Media Association and the organizers of the Swiss Media Forum are collaborating: Starting in 2016, they will jointly host an annual, two-day event under the brand name «Swiss Media Forum—The Swiss Media Congress.».

This event will take place every fall at the KKL Lucerne and will replace the two previous congresses in spring and fall. Hanspeter Lebrument, President of the Swiss Media Association, said in a press release on Thursday: "The joint event will be the highlight of the media year and will bring our industry together with politics and business."

The program part of the "Swiss Media Forum the Swiss Media Congress" will take place on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning at the KKL. There will be a gala dinner on Thursday evening. The association's internal meetings will take place on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Andreas Binder, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Media Forum, is convinced: "By joining forces, we can further enhance the program and make it even more international."

The Swiss Media Association and Swiss Media Forum are founding a new company to organize and run the event, with the following four people on the Board of Directors: Verena Vonarburg, Director of the Swiss Media Association, Andreas Binder, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swiss Media Forum, Marc Walder, CEO of Ringier, and Patrik Müller, founder and program manager of Swiss Media Forum. Bettina Bertschinger, the current Managing Director of the Swiss Media Forum, is the designated Managing Director of the future event.

In 2015, the Swiss Media Forum (on May 28/29 at the KKL Lucerne) and the Swiss Media Congress (on September 10/11 in Interlaken) will be held separately once again.

Swisscom grew in 2014

Swisscom posted growth in nearly all areas in 2014. Revenue, profit, and the number of customers all increased. Bundled offers and flat-rate cell phone plans, in particular, were booming.

Swisscom CEO Urs Schaeppi had every reason to be happy on Thursday. For the first time in a long time, his company has managed to increase its profits along with its turnover. This rose by 0.6 percent to 1.7 billion Swiss francs. At 11.7 billion Swiss francs, turnover last year was 2.4 percent higher than in 2013.

Swisscom's top sellers in 2014 were, on the one hand, the so-called bundled offers, sales of which increased by almost a quarter to CHF 1.9 billion, and, on the other hand, mobile phone subscriptions that allow customers to make unlimited calls and surf the Internet. At the end of 2014, Swisscom already had 2.1 million customers with such fixed-price contracts.

The next digital revolution

According to Schaeppi, these trends also show where the telecoms industry is heading. The volume of data, especially on the mobile network, will continue to increase massively. In recent years, the volume has doubled every year.

The main driver behind this is the continuing advance of networking. According to Schaeppi, it will be normal in future to be online anytime, anywhere and with many more devices and applications. One consequence of this will be that the boundaries between many sectors will disappear.

According to Schaeppi, Swisscom sees this trend primarily as an opportunity. Telecoms and IT are becoming increasingly important as a result. Swisscom is therefore continuing to invest heavily in its networks.

Swisscom becomes an advertising intermediary

However, Swisscom also wants to compensate for the decline in normal telephone services with new activities. Last year, for example, Swisscom founded a subsidiary called Swisscom Health to bundle its activities in the healthcare sector.

The telecoms company is also increasingly entering the advertising market. Last year, Swisscom bought the advertising marketer Publigroupe in order to acquire the Swiss search engine Local.ch. According to Schaeppi, the plan is to merge Local.ch with Tamedia's search service Search.ch.

This merger of the existing Swiss market leaders is important in order to be well positioned in the advertising market, said Schaeppi. The competition is not other Swiss providers, but the really big Internet companies such as Google and Facebook.

Another future market for Swisscom is the key account business. Following the merger of two business areas at the beginning of 2014, a significant increase in orders of 16% has already been achieved in this area.

One trend in this area is cloud computing. Swisscom intends to move a large part of its own work and production processes to central data storage - so-called clouds - this year.

Strong franc not a problem for the time being

However, 2015 will also be the year in which Swisscom will have to digest the franc shock. According to Schaeppi, a model calculation has shown that with a euro exchange rate of one franc, revenue will be almost CHF 400 million lower and operating profit around CHF 100 million lower.

However, these effects are almost exclusively translation effects that do not affect the margin. "Our business is not heavily dependent on either the euro or the dollar." Swisscom only purchases materials worth around 200 to 300 million euros and dollars respectively (SDA).

Environments in which tattoos are taboo. The solution proposed by the poster subjects: Professional, low-pain tattoo removal using modern laser technology - at Dermalight.

Last but not least: Cool public transport driver

The Danish bus line Midttrafik uses an anti-hero to promote public transport.

He is cool. With his "New York style hairstyle". And his outlet sneakers with "dobbelt knuder" (double knot). It is not only, but also the Danish language that makes the commercial so charming. The likeable anti-hero is successfully staged by M2Film from Aarhus in Denmark. (sis)

65th Berlinale: Promising Swiss Films and Actors

Several Swiss productions are featured in the main sections of the 65th Berlinale program.

With "Dora oder Die sexuellen Neurosen unserer Eltern" by Stina Werenfels and "Iraqi Odyssey" by Samir, two films by Zurich production company Dschoint Ventschr have been selected for the "Panoram "a section. The Swiss co-production "Vergine giurata" can be seen in the prestigious "Competition" section. With Sven Schelker, Joel Basman and Kacey Mottet Klein, three young Swiss actors are in the Berlin spotlight.

With her new film "Dora oder Die sexuellen Neurosen unserer Eltern", based on the play of the same name by Lukas Bärfuss, Stina Werenfels is now presenting her second feature film in the Panorama section after "Nachbeben" (2006). Lars Eidinger and Victoria Schulz, who makes her cinema debut in the film, are outstanding. Samir's 3D documentary "Iraqi Odyssey" has already caused a sensation at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Zurich Film Festival and the Abu Dhabi Film Festival. His family story has now also been invited to the Berlinale. The Swiss co-production "Vergine Giurata" has high hopes of winning a bear. The debut film by Italian director Laura Bispuri was co-produced by the Geneva-based production company Borde Cadre Films (Dan Wechsler) and RSI. Alba Rohrwacher and Lars Eidinger can be seen in the leading roles in the Swiss co-production with Italy, Germany, Albania and Kososvo.

The "Panorama Dokumente" section also presents the Swiss co-production "Une jeunesse allemande" by the Geneva-based company Alina Film. The two Geneva co-productions "Gineva" and "Fish Plane, Heart Clock" will be screened in the Forum Expanded. The latter was co-produced by the renowned Centre d'Art Contemporain in Geneva, as is "La isla está encantada con ustedes" by Alexander Carver & Daniel Schmidt, which will be presented in the Berlinale Shorts section. "Sibylle", the graduation film by Schwyz filmmaker Michael Krummenacher at the HFF Munich, was selected for "Perspektive Deutsches Kino".

Ursula Meier and Kacey Mottet Klein in Berlin

The "Generation K+" section features the two Swiss animated films "Der kleine Vogel und das Eichhörnchen" by Lena von Döhren and "Messages dans l'air" by Isabelle Favez as well as Ursula Meier's new short film "Kacey Mottet Klein, naissance d'un acteur". The exceptional young Swiss talent Kacey Mottet Klein first appeared in front of the camera for Ursula Meier's film "Home" and then played the lead role in "Sister" at the age of twelve. The film was awarded the Silver Bear at the 2012 Berlinale. Meier will give an insight into her work with Kacey Mottet Klein and other actors in a panel entitled Basic Trust: Growing Relationships with Actors as part of "Berlinale Talents".

Shooting Star 2015: Sven Schelker

Sven Schelker will represent Switzerland as a shooting star at the 65th Berlinale. The 25-year-old from Basel has been a member of the ensemble at the Thalia Theater Hamburg since 2012. Along with him, nine other European actors have been honored as Shooting Stars. This European Film Promotion (EFP) event has become an attractive talent exchange for actors and actresses from all over Europe. One example is Zurich actor Joel Basman, Swiss Shooting Star 2008, who has since gone on to enjoy a remarkable film career. Basman plays a leading role in Andreas Dresen's new film "Als wir träumten", which has also been selected for this year's competition.

Metapeople whitepaper: Online Marketing Trends 2015

The Internet and TV continue to converge, smartphones are becoming the center of the digital user universe, and big data is emerging as a key factor for success online. In its new white paper, Metapeople takes a look into the future and presents some of the trends for 2015.

The focus here is on three topics in particular:

1. the digitalization of advertising channels continues to increase and will also change the placement of TV advertising in the future.

2 The topic of mobile marketing will remain highly relevant in 2015. Despite the development of wearables such as Google Glass or the Apple Watch, the smartphone will remain the center of the digital universe for the majority of digital device users in the coming year.

3. the importance of big data management continues to grow and can be used more and more effectively to address users in a needs-oriented and targeted manner with content-rich advertising measures - content marketing.

In future, successful performance marketing will increasingly involve the challenge of uniform and customer-friendly communication across different channels and devices. Whether in television advertising or in the implementation of mobile marketing measures, customers today expect a uniform and service-oriented presence from advertising companies.
