SRF Kultur devotes itself to fairy tales and Marignano
A "Fairy Tale Week" and a special look at the Battle of Marignano are intended to draw culture enthusiasts to SRF Kultur's channels. This was announced by program officials during a preview of the upcoming months' programming.

"Fairy tales are omnipresent in our everyday lives," said project manager Rajan Autze to the media on Wednesday. From December 2-9, SRF will be presenting the topic on all channels. Well-known and unknown fairy tales from all over the world will be presented. New ones will also be added. According to Autze, these will be based on pop songs, for example. The topic is also being taken up on Twitter. There, the "Bremen Town Musicians" are to serve as the starting point for Twitteratur - literature in 140 characters. And in the children's program "Zambo", the children even take on a witch. According to Autze, such focuses are worthwhile. "They make the audience stay longer." This was also evident in last year's "Baroque" focus.
License to drill bones
The "DOK" program "The Pope's Warhorse - Cardinal Schiner, Marignano and Neutrality" is not based on fairy tales but on historical facts. It will be broadcast on September 10, on the eve of the 500th anniversary of the battle. The film begins with a scene in which a politician from Valais has been given permission to dig up a 500-year-old corpse in the Vatican and drill into the bones for DNA analysis. If the bones are indeed those of Cardinal Matthäus Schiner, they are to be brought to Valais and a mausoleum erected.
The former goat boy from Valais, Schiner, almost became Pope 500 years ago. He wanted to shape Switzerland into a major European power, but led 12,000 mercenaries to their deaths in the Battle of Marignano. The film explores the myth of neutrality and what it means for Switzerland today, said Marius Born, Head of Documentary and Reportage.
Another Swiss topic is already casting its shadow ahead: the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel in December 2016. The Gotthard is an example of innovative strength and a willingness to take risks, said Nathalie Wappler, Head of the Culture Department. Productions about the Gotthard are "a huge opportunity" for SRF Kultur. Wappler promised more information at a later date.n (SDA)
NZZ Media Group launches new online portal for eastern Switzerland with FM1 today

The new online portal sees itself as a sister medium of FM1, the regional radio station in eastern Switzerland. FM1 today and Radio FM1 have the same target group, talk about the same topics and, according to the announcement, will both accompany the people of eastern Switzerland through the day in the future. For this reason, the two media have been working together convergently in a joint, significantly expanded editorial department since the start of the project. This also includes the eastern Swiss television TVO, which contributes current video content. "With the new FM1 today platform, we will massively increase our digital reach in eastern Switzerland," explains the Head of Reach Media at NZZ Media Group, Caroline Thoma.
For the NZZ Media Group, FM1 today is already the fifth new product this year. At the same time, FM1today is the first project of the innovation cell launched in October under the leadership of Caroline Thoma. This innovation cell brings together the electronic media in eastern Switzerland, Radio FM1 and TVO, with the aim of linking television, radio and online and mobile more closely.
Work on the new online portal is in full swing. André Moesch, Head of Electronic Media in St. Gallen: "In the final phase, we are working on everything at once: content, technology, marketing, organization. The team has grown together very quickly, is highly motivated and is looking forward to the launch in September."
Programmatic Advertising 2.0: Data as a raw material
At the Adello Mobile trade event, 150 representatives from Swiss agencies and advertisers learned how Uber, Clear Channel and Bring! deal with the topic of Big Data and what benefits they derive from the data for the operation and marketing of their products.

By way of introduction, on Wednesday at the Zurich Hub Adello Country Manager Sandor Laczko expressed his conviction that programmatic advertising will completely reshape the Swiss advertising market in the next twelve months. Automated ad delivery is therefore the most interesting field in the digital value chain - and at the same time the biggest challenge due to its complexity. At Adello, machine learning is used to enable the efficient processing of huge amounts of data and to continuously improve the performance of campaigns.
Rasoul Jalali, General Manager of Uber, then showed why data is the fuel of the American ride-hailing giant - and not just for amusing and rather peripheral sociological studies ("where are the best hotspots to meet other singles"). As an example, he demonstrated the new UberPool product, which makes it possible for multiple passengers with different destinations to share the same vehicle. The Uber algorithm ensures that detours are minimized and operations are efficient - and that Uber vehicles will increasingly shape the Swiss street scene in the future.
Shaping the street scene is also the focus of Clear Channel. Marketing Director Oliver Schönfeld used examples to illustrate that the programmatic revolution is also taking place in out-of-home advertising. "Mobile users pay much more attention to posters," says Schönfeld - and, together with Adello founder Mark Forster, he also presented an innovative product which, by incorporating mobile advertising and local user data, is able to increase the effectiveness of poster campaigns not only by the 5-10 percent estimated by the public, but by an astonishing 36 percent.
But how do you refine the most important raw material of the 21st century? Dr. Michael Prim, head of Adello's Data Science team, gave insights into the daily work with data and showed parallels to his former work in the field of particle physics. The twelve-member data science and analyst team deals with "machine learning", "high performance computing", "data mining" and above all: with the algorithm that manages to fish out the appropriate data sets from over 10 billion per day in fractions of a second. This has resulted in various patents and award-winning mobile advertising products from Adello, which are managed by around fifty employees around the globe.
The shopping app "Bring!" also uses user data traces for targeted marketing. Co-founder Dominic Mehr demonstrated the potential of the app, which is already used by hundreds of thousands of shoppers, for native advertising, and how the Heineken brand can be made palatable to users who put "beer" on their list, and which also regularly reminds them to buy their favorite brand again.

Finally, Sandor Laczko asked the experts about the reasons why programmatic is still in its infancy in Switzerland compared to other countries. Manfred Strobl, CEO of Mediaschneider, explained that in Switzerland, publishers are reluctant to use programmatic for various reasons. Likewise, it has not yet become established on the agency and customer side due to the technical requirements.
Mark Forster answered the question of how the requirements were changing on the one hand with the fact that the handling of data first requires an understanding of the business model in order to derive KPIs from it, which then have to be used for data-driven optimization. This fundamentally changes the value chain. He pointed out that in the U.S., CIOs and data science teams are often the main contacts when it comes to programmatic - in other words, less and less the advertising or marketing departments. Michael Schönfeld explained how programmatic is currently being discussed very intensively, especially in traditional media such as OOH. Dr. Michael Prim explained how complex data-driven technology is, but how creativity in implementation would continue to play an important role in the end.

RTVG: No recount
The results of the RTVG referendum will not be recounted. The Federal Supreme Court has ruled that even in the case of a close vote, a recount should only be conducted if irregularities have occurred that could affect the outcome.

This was not the case in the vote on the Radio and Television Act on June 14. The Federal Supreme Court therefore dismissed four appeals by individuals from the cantons of Zurich and Basel-Landschaft in a public consultation on Wednesday. The proportion of votes in favor of the RTVA bill was 50.08%. With this ruling, the Federal Supreme Court has decided to change its practice. In 2009, following the close vote on the biometric passport, it had concluded that errors occurring per se during a count were sufficient to order a recount. In the case of the biometric passport, however, the Federal Supreme Court decided against a recount because it did not consider the result of 50.14% in favor to be close enough. (SDA)

Last but not least: Idiot baiting
You won't believe which TV guide put itself on the sidelines with some particularly tasteless clickbait!
Editorial

August 19, 2015
The good news is that clickbaiting - at least in its silliest form - seems to be on the decline. Tweets, posts and titles that are all too obviously aimed at persuading people to click at all costs are now frowned upon by many internet users. "This adorable kitten just wanted to drink its milk in peace - you won't believe the heart-warming scene that unfolded with the neighbor's dog Rex!". If you have interesting (and your own...) content to offer, people usually click even if they receive a normal short description of the link content.
The bad news is that clickbaiting is far from being a thing of the past. This was demonstrated once again on Tuesday evening, when the TV guide TV Movie tried a particularly perfidious way to force the coveted traffic. "One of these TV presenters has to retire due to CANCER DISEASE". The choices for the happy cancer guessing game were: Stefan Raab, Roger Willemsen, Günther Jauch and Joko Winterscheidt.

The shitstorm came free with the funny riddle, so to speak. TV Movie rowed back, deleted the post and apologized via Facebook:
By the way, TV Movie has a tradition of cheerful guesswork, as Bildblog.com using countless examples. Which Harry Potter star is in a wheelchair? Which actor is suspected of having abused a woman? Which Hollywood star has just received VERY sad news? Which series creator was arrested in connection with child pornography? As you can see, the "Social Media Standards" from Bauer Xcel Media Germany do their job perfectly. But there's definitely nothing about clickbaiting, because the clickbaiting on the TV movie profile continues unabashedly. In the meantime, users have taken it upon themselves to write the answer to the "riddles" in the comments below - so that even those who are interested don't have to click. (hae)

Andrea Haemmerli, Managing Director of Pro Sieben Sat.1 subsidiary Sevenone Media Switzerland, announced the launch of the new channel on Tuesday in a Interview with the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. The media group did not wish to comment on the launch date or the name of the channel when asked. They will be "informed shortly", they said. According to Haemmerli, the new channel will offer viewers a 24-hour program with films and series: "The focus is on a wide range of feature films. This includes Hollywood blockbusters, arthouse films and classics of film history." The program will be supplemented "with top international series". The new channel is not intended to compete with the existing Pro Sieben Sat.1 channels. "Pro Sieben has a younger positioning, Sat.1 is slightly older than the new Swiss channel." Overall, the Group could expand its market share with the new channel.
High demand for TV advertising space
Pro Sieben Sat.1 expects the new channel to start with market shares "in the lower single-digit range". In the longer term, it should "be one of the big players among the small channels". According to Haemmerli, Pro Sieben Sat.1 has successfully expanded its portfolio in recent years with channels such as Sixx and is also very successful in Austria with the channel Puls 4. It therefore makes sense to extend this growth strategy to the Swiss market. "And there is not yet a 24-hour movie and series channel in Switzerland." She sees growth opportunities in the advertising market: the demand for television advertising space in Switzerland remains high. The television advertising market has grown by an average of 4 percent annually since 2010. "We assume that this growth will continue in the coming years," said Haemmerli. (SDA)
Eyecatcher: "Goodie machine" for Salt
This year, Eyecatcher not only gave the Salt Cinema website a fresh new look, but also represented Salt at the event with an interactive installation.

The highlight of Salt's promotion area was the goodie machine, which was designed by the digital agency Eyecatcher. For this, they completely rebuilt a snack vending machine, integrated an iPad as a user interface and thus intervened in the control electronics of the vending machine. The installation is filled daily with goodies from Salt. These can either be won via a game on the iPad or the visitor buys the desired gadget, which is ejected immediately in both cases. Payment is handled via the mobile phone.
One installation was in operation in Zurich, one in Bern and one in Basel. After the Salt Cinema season, the vending machines will be used at other events.
Thus, Salt has used the entire range of services of the Eyecatcher agency again this year: Redesign of the website Saltcinema.ch, invitation management solution EyeVIP, a tablet application for six premium seats and, as a highlight, an interactive goodie machine.
Swiss population overestimates own computer skills
When it comes to their basic computer skills, Swiss people consistently overestimate their abilities. This is confirmed by a representative study conducted by ECDL Switzerland.
Editorial

August 18, 2015
In addition to overestimating their own abilities, the level of performance is also poor: in the practical test, participants achieve an average of less than half the possible points.
Overall, the Swiss population rates their skills across all computer applications surveyed much higher than the practical test confirms. While a large majority overestimated their skills, only a few respondents underestimated their performance. Respondents rated themselves most realistically when using Word, achieving a total of two thirds of the previously assessed performance points in the test. The greatest overestimation can be seen in the use of Excel: Overall, the respondents only achieved just under half of their previously assessed performance. These are the findings of the representative study conducted by ECDL Switzerland AG, which implements the internationally recognized certificate for PC users, the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence), in Switzerland.
Unrealistic self-assessment to a high degree
An assessment on a scale from "very good" to "very poor" shows the extent of the overestimation: while 67% of test participants rate themselves as "very good/good", only 31% achieve a corresponding test result. Meanwhile, 6 percent rate their skills as "very poor/poor" in advance, although in practice a full 40 percent perform poorly to very poorly (Figure 1).
If only the results of the practical test are analyzed, the participants in the ECDL study only solved 46.1% of all tasks correctly across all tested applications. This result shows that the population in this country has a low level of performance in the area of basic computer applications - despite very good PC equipment and intensive use. The best results can be seen in Internet use and dealing with e-mails (average test result 50.7%). In file management, 47.5 percent and in the use of Word 47.3% were achieved. Excel comes a distant last with a total of just 34.1%. Digital natives (15 to 25-year-olds) achieved significantly better test results in all four areas than the total of all test subjects (15 to 64-year-olds) and with an overall result of 59.6%, they are 13.5 percentage points above the Swiss average (Figure 2).

Kargo goes "social
Bern-based agency Kargo wins no less than three budgets in the social sector. The decisive factors in winning the pitches were not only the agency's understanding of communications for the respective target markets, but also its creative ideas and approaches to cross-media linking of relevant online and offline measures. Kargo came out on top in the pitch to create the new corporate design for Swissaid and won the contract. The aim is to provide the aid organization with conceptual and creative support for positioning the brand and increasing its recognizability.
Furthermore, Kargo supports the Bern-based Sozialinfo.ch office with immediate effect. Under the umbrella of the Sozialinfo.ch association, various services for the social sector in Switzerland can be found, including a database of expertise and the largest job portal for social professions in Switzerland. The measures to be implemented include the creative and conceptual work for the re-design of the web portal as well as any print communication.
And with Contact Netz, a foundation for addiction support, which works in the field of outpatient harm reduction for people at risk of addiction and addicts, Kargo wins another customer. Contact Netz, which operates mainly in the canton of Berne, also relies on Kargo for the development of its new website.
