The House tours new ZKB headquarters

The House prevailed in a multi-stage agency pitch and is now the digital lead agency for Zürcher Kantonalbank. The first major project is the opening of the new headquarters as a virtual tour.

After several years of renovation, the bank opened its headquarters at Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse 9 on August 17, 2015. True to the claim "Die nahe Bank," the classic counter hall was replaced by a modern and open meeting zone. In addition, the new headquarters offers a publicly accessible Coffee bar as well as free workstations for rent an.

In order to make these new offerings and changes more attractive to both existing customers and
new customers, The House has created a unique online experience as a virtual tour at Zkb.ch/headquarters realized. With great attention to detail, renderings of rooms and halls were created, which can be discovered by means of intuitive operation and navigation. Google defends itself against EU competition allegations

The IT giant is taking a confrontational stance against the European Commission in the long-running European antitrust case. Contrary to the allegations made by the Brussels antitrust regulators, Google claims that it actually provides European consumers with more choice.

The company explained this in a blog post on Thursday. In the dispute with Google, the prominently placed hits from the Google Shopping price search engine are a particular thorn in the side of the EU Commission. In April, the Commission formally accused Google of favoring its own shopping service with links to online retailers in the search engine. Competing price search engines would be disadvantaged as a result.

In competition proceedings, penalties of up to ten percent of annual turnover - Google generated revenue of 66 billion dollars in 2014 - are the ultimate consequence.

After two deadline extensions, Google had until August 31 to respond to the allegations. The company has now done so: data shows that many users accessed the price search engines via Google. In addition, the Commission had not taken into account the influence of trading platforms such as Amazon and eBay on the competitive situation.

Google categorically rejected the Commission's proposal to cede advertising space on its website to competing shopping search engines. Consumers would see less relevant advertising as a result - and the Commission also recognizes that Google is not obliged to do so. (SDA/uma)

Facebook cracks billion mark within one day

According to Facebook, the online network has broken the one billion user mark in a single day for the first time. "We've just passed an important milestone," wrote company boss Mark Zuckerberg on his website on Thursday.

On Monday, one in seven people on the planet used the social network, Zuckerberg announced. This was the "first time" that Facebook had been accessed by one billion people within one day, "and this is just the beginning", Zuckerberg added.

Last month, Facebook announced that the number of monthly active users had grown by 13 percent year-on-year to 1.49 billion. 968 million of them used Facebook every day. The number of people accessing Facebook via cell phone rose to 1.31 billion, according to the figures. (SDA)

Frontwork: New interior design for Läckerli Huus

On the facade of the Läckerli Huus in Frenkendorf (BL), large letters announce what visitors will experience inside: «bake,» «discover,» «shop,» and «enjoy.» This impression from the outside is now intended to carry over into the interior of the building as well.

With this in mind, Läckerli Huus turned to interior designer (Dipl. HFG) Regula Rechsteiner for the design of the top floor (reception, meeting room, cafeteria, passageways). In recent years, she has already designed the conversion and new construction of 11 stores in line with the corporate design. Frontwork was commissioned to produce the ideas. The interior design specialist has set new accents in various places: in the cafeteria, on the glass walls of the meeting rooms, in the corridors and in the showcases in the entrance area.

A transparent film has been used in the cafeteria to wish guests "Bon Appetit" in all the languages of the export countries. Using a magnet system, numerous pictures and posters (current and historical) in various formats can now be placed in the aisle and easily changed as required - with a focus on new products or with catchy brand messages.

The foils on the glass walls of the meeting rooms ensure discretion and provide better orientation with catchy names such as "Basler Läckerli", "Chocolat-Waffeln" or "Rahmtäfeli", i.e. product names from the range.

Another challenge was the disruptive noise in the cafeteria. As a solution, Frontwork fitted the walls here with new acoustic frameless frames with a huge Basler Läckerli print.

Millward Brown: "Getting Digital Right 2015"

For many people, smartphones, tablets, internet-enabled TVs, and wearables are already part of everyday life. At the same time, this increases the complexity of digital marketing. The goal is to reach customers with the right message on the right screen at the right time.

In the age of digitalization, marketers are faced with the task of recognizing the potential of new technologies and developing creative, efficient marketing strategies. The digital experts at international marketing and market research company Millward Brown have compiled the key opportunities and challenges of digital marketing in the "Getting Digital Right 2015" study. Over 400 marketing decision-makers from companies and agencies in the USA were surveyed for this purpose.

The four key findings of the study are as follows:

Big data is not the same as smart data: Everyone is talking about big data. And marketing also has high hopes for data analysis in the long term. However, the initial euphoria seems to be over: only 14% of study participants are currently convinced that the available data will be used efficiently. This result is all the more astonishing given that the confidence of the marketing experts surveyed last year was 39%.

Traditional research tools are still in demand: From the point of view of marketing managers, customer surveys (67%) and reach measurements (61%) still provide the most reliable target group-specific data. Nevertheless, the majority (70%) believe that behavioral science findings will become increasingly important for marketing in the next three years.

RoI as the most important key figure: 80% of the marketing experts surveyed would increase their advertising budgets for the mobile and digital channels, and 74% for social media, if the additional expenditure had a positive impact on the return on investment (ROI). For half of those surveyed, ROI is still the most important criterion for the allocation of media budgets. This is why many marketers focus on measuring ROI. And it is precisely in this area that many marketing decision-makers see enormous potential for improvement.

Need to optimize the media mix: Only half of media managers and a quarter of product managers are convinced by their current media mix. However, over 50 percent of marketing managers rate the ability to address specific target groups as a key factor in the allocation of media budgets.

"Marketing decision-makers are currently trying to keep pace with the speed of digitalization in recent years. Ultimately, it's about precisely understanding digital consumers and their decisions, integrating alternative research tools and reorganizing media budgets in order to achieve an improved return on investment," says Dr. Bernd Büchner, Managing Director of Millward Brown in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Instagram allows more image formats

A small revolution at the online photo-sharing service Instagram: Until now, square images have been the platform's hallmark, but with the updated version of the app, users can now also post photos and videos in portrait or landscape orientation.

The square photo will "always be a part of who we are," the service, which is part of the Facebook group, announced on Thursday. But users should also be able to share moments "the way they want" - for example, a full-size portrait photo or a panoramic image. According to Instagram, out of five photos on the platform so far, one does not display properly in square form. In the end, this meant that someone was cut off in a group photo, a video looked overcrowded, or simply the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco didn't fit completely in one photo. Now, users can choose which format they want with a single click.

Instagram says it has more than 300 million users, most of them outside the US. Every day, an average of 70 million photos are shared via the platform. Instagram has been part of Facebook since 2012. (SDA)

Swiss Packaging Award 2015

For the 46th time, the SVI is holding the Swiss Packaging Award, the competition for the most innovative packaging. 43 packaging solutions took part this year, seven won a prize.

After a two-day voting process in July, the jury nominated 18 packages and selected six winners. In addition, the public prize was awarded. Winning a Swiss Packaging Award enables participation in the international packaging competition World Star.

"Victorinox eLLa" wins audience award

The 2015 Audience Award was won by the "Victorinox eLLa" perfume packaging from Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrances. The core values of Victorinox - design, innovation, quality, functionality - were specifically taken into account in this packaging. A mirror was elaborately integrated into the flacon and always allows for a quick beauty check. The rubberized casing offers protection against glass breakage and is well suited for transport. Last but not least: In the focus of society

The organization Café Art distributed disposable cameras to homeless people in London. The best photos will be published in a calendar.

Café Art is an initiative that promotes and supports homeless or socially disadvantaged people through artistic projects. One of these projects is "The Cafe Art 2016 My London Calendar". The photographic realization and public recognition is intended to boost the self-confidence and self-esteem of the photographers (more on this in the film at the bottom). 100 Fujiifilm disposable klmeras were distributed in July. To homeless and marginalized people, who had been Royal Photographic Society were trained. Before the end of July, 80 of the 100 cameras were returned "played with" and 2500 photos were developed. A jury consisting of representatives from Fujifilm, Amateur Photographer Magazine, The London Photo Festival, Christie's and the organization Homeless Link selected the 20 best photos and put them out for public voting on the street. Over 2400 votes were received. To fund the printing of the calendar, the photographers' salaries and other expenses, a Kickstarter project was launched. There is no question that the funding goal will be reached, because the project went viral. That's hardly surprising - the photos are simply too touching. And too good. (hae)

Facebook develops digital helper

Online giants like Apple, Microsoft, and Google already offer digital assistants you can talk to. Facebook is taking a slightly different approach: «M» is a kind of concierge designed to carry out tasks—with human assistance when needed.

The computer helper is intended to carry out specific tasks for users of the Messenger short message service, wrote the responsible manager David Marcus in a Facebook entry. "It can buy things, make sure gifts are delivered to your loved ones, reserve tables in restaurants, book trips, make appointments and much more," explained Marcus. The service is initially being tested with a few hundred users around San Francisco.

Behind M are self-learning computers - but also people who intervene when the machine reaches its limits, Marcus told Wired magazine. They are called "M Trainers" and Facebook will employ thousands of them over time. "M learns from human behavior." Facebook sees a future business opportunity in earning money from fees on purchases via Messenger.

More and more digital assistants are now competing for the favor of users. Siri has been available on Apple's iPhones for almost four years, Microsoft's answer to this is Cortana, Google's Google Now service allows you to ask questions and Amazon has integrated the Alexa assistant into the Echo networked speaker. Unlike these services, Facebook's M only allows you to communicate in writing. The world's largest online network has around 1.5 billion members, while Messenger has over 700 million users according to the latest figures. The former Paypal boss Marcus also wants to expand the service into a platform for contacts with companies' customer service. (SDA)
