Fuss about ADC gold for Mercedes commercials

On Saturday, Jung von Matt/Limmat took home three gold awards for its commercials at the ADC Awards. The awards went to two films for Mercedes and one for Smart. Now, critics are speaking out, complaining that the two Mercedes commercials were produced by the Jung von Matt offices in Hamburg and Berlin. ADC President Jean Etienne Aebi has indicated that a discussion regarding the submission rules is on the horizon.

Jung von Matt/Limmat won gold for three spots at the ADC awards on Saturday. Two films for Mercedes and one for Smart were honored. Critics are now complaining that the two Mercedes commercials were produced by the Jung von Matt branches in Hamburg and Berlin. As Werbewoche knows, this fact was already the subject of discussion during the ADC judging.
The ADC regulations state that works conceived and published in Switzerland are eligible to participate. According to the call for entries, "conceived in Switzerland means that at least the CD or the team of AD and copywriter is Swiss or is clearly based in Switzerland". Jean-Remy von Matt, Mathias Stiller, Wolfgang Schneider and David Mously are listed as creative directors for the Mercedes commercial "4matics", and Jean-Remy von Matt, Denek von Weltzien and Daniel Frericks for "The Race". Jean-Remy von Matt is known to be Swiss.
The Smart spot is unproblematic in terms of ADC judging: "We developed it here in Switzerland," explains Alexander Jaggy, Managing Director Creation at Jung von Matt/Limmat, when asked by Werbewoche. "The two Mercedes commercials come from Germany under the direction of Jean-Remy von Matt, that's right." The submissions were made in accordance with the current ADC regulations. "Jean-Remy von Matt is not only a regular jury member of ADC Switzerland, but also a minority shareholder in our agency. He is also fully associated with the Swiss agency in the gold jury," says Jaggy. As is the case for all jury members, Jean-Remy von Matt stepped down when his own work was being discussed.
"I heard about the accusations that are now circulating on Saturday evening," Jaggy continues. "But no one has told me to my face that they don't agree". He emphasizes that the title "Agency of the Year", which JvM/Limmat was also allowed to take home on Saturday, is not only based on the Mercedes commercials: The agency has won 39 awards, 16 of which were precious metal. The gold awards are counted four times for the agency ranking.
When asked, ADC President Jean Etienne Aebi explained that, as President, he did not wish to comment directly on the discussion surrounding Jung von Matt's commercials. "All I can say is that we will definitely discuss the extent to which the entry requirements are good and correct at the next board meeting". He is also of the opinion that the two Mercedes commercials comply with the current ADC regulations. Aebi is currently unable to say whether the guidelines for submissions will become more restrictive or, on the contrary, more open: "That will be the subject of discussion".

"Giacobbo/Müller" starts with good ratings

On Sunday evening, the satirical show "Giacobbo/Müller" with the two eponymous humorists Viktor Giacobbo and Mike Müller celebrated its premiere on Swiss television. It reached 619,700 viewers. Reactions from the press were mostly positive.

On Sunday evening, the satirical show "Giacobbo/Müller" with the two eponymous humorists Viktor Giacobbo and Mike Müller celebrated its premiere on Swiss television. The broadcaster can be satisfied with the viewing figures: 619,700 people tuned in, which corresponds to a market share of 41.3 percent, as SF announced on request.
The majority of press reactions are positive: "It's never too late for good Swiss late-night comedy," says Blick. "Giacobbo/Müller" was convincing, according to 20 Minuten. The show could do with more zing, but Giacobbo's return can be seen as a win for the SF screen, writes the NZZ. It identifies the Catholic Church and the SVP as classic topics, which had already been a recurring theme in Giacobbo's earlier show "Viktors Spätprogramm".
The Aargauer Zeitung was not entirely satisfied with "Giacobbo/Müller": "Only half successful", it said in the title. The concept of the show worked in the first 20 minutes, but the guests in the second part were too bland for the Aargauer Zeitung or didn't get a chance to speak. With regard to the distribution of roles between Giacobbo and Müller, Blick regrets that the latter was neutralized as the "protocol leader". And 20 Minuten's dry verdict: "One-man show for Viktor Giacobbo". The Christoph Mörgeli parody by comedian Fabian Unteregger was met with enthusiasm from all sides.

Last but not least: Cucumber flirt in the Chüeierstube

He likes watching James Bond movies, enjoys the TV series "Grey's Anatomy" and has strikingly large, gleaming white teeth: Andreas Belser, 27, has just been voted Switzerland's most beautiful ski instructor by an overwhelming majority. Online visitors to Myswitzerland.com voted 181,468 times for the qualified snow sports instructor who works in Adelboden. That is 52.4 percent of all votes cast and over 30,000 more than the runner-up, Bettmeralper Manuel Utiger (favorite venue: Albi's Mountenrock). In total, the campaign designed by advertising agency SFLB brought the website 406,692 clicks from countries such as Germany, the USA, Italy and Great Britain. What secret weapons Belser would come up with at a candlelight dinner, he would not reveal. Perhaps it would be a few glasses of cucumber juice, his favorite après-ski drink. Or a bouquet of flowers in his favorite color of ski instructor dress-blue. Who knows. Anyone who wants to get a clear answer to this question should go to the Chüeierstube Silleren above Adelboden and talk to the beautiful Belser Andreas in a carving-free minute.

Rod Kommunikation brings 20 minutes into the conversation

The young advertising agency Rod Kommunikation is promoting the commuter newspaper 20 Minuten with the tagline «Gives you something to talk about.» The campaign features current, rotating original headlines.

The young advertising agency Rod Kommunikation is showcasing the commuter paper 20 Minuten with the claim "Bringt Gesprächsstoff". The campaign contains current, changing original headlines. The aim is to underline the fact that what is now Switzerland's most widely read daily newspaper provides its readers with exciting stories, according to Rod.
The "Conversation Starter" positioning should also serve as inspiration for the editorial team to judge the stories even more according to what will be the topic of conversation in Switzerland the following day. "The fact that we always have to expect to find our stories in advertising has an inspiring effect," explains Editor-in-Chief Marco Boselli in a press release.
One challenge for the agency was to reconcile the interests of the editorial team and the publisher. It also had to find a campaign system for a brand that has many different facets. The journalistic achievements of 20 Minuten, in particular its own services, should be more strongly emphasized. At the same time, the campaign had to allow enough flexibility to advertise the numerous promotions. In addition, the requirement was to create a presence that does justice to the 20 Minuten.ch portal as well as the additional services, such as web TV or IP radio.
In the initial phase, the campaign will feature around 20 different subjects in the Swiss press, on B2B advertising media, guerrilla campaigns, several radio spots and numerous web banners. Further measures will be seen in the course of this year.

Anne-Rose Schwab wins recognition prize in Solothurn

Makeup artist Anne-Rose Schwab received the 10,000-franc Recognition Award from the suburb of Lohn-Ammansegg at the Solothurn Film Festival. The Zurich-based specialist also works regularly in advertising.

At the Solothurn Film Festival, the Swiss Film Prize was not only awarded - probably for the last time before the move to Lucerne. The suburban community of Lohn-Ammannsegg also regularly honors a particularly deserving film technician. The award, which comes with prize money of 10,000 francs, went to make-up artist Anne-Rose Schwab on Friday. The Zurich-based specialist in pathological effects also works regularly for advertising. For example, Schwab created the gold-winning works for Médecins sans Frontières in Cannes with messages "sewn" into the skin as surgical scars. Schwab's finger puppets can currently be seen in the SBB TV commercials for Jung von Matt. The masked woman also "built" the "edible" worms in the SFLB commercials for Zürcher Kantonalbank.
In feature films, Anne-Rose Schwab designed the floater in the thriller "Marmorera" and was responsible for the make-up in dozens of films such as "The Frozen Heart", "Achtung, fertig Charlie", "Snow White" and the upcoming "Tandoori Love". Schwab also recently made up Claudio Zuccolini for Werbewoche as a "triple jury" in the "Super Advertiser" clip for the "Advertiser of the Year" event.

Ziegler Papier pleased with increase in sales

Ziegler Paper Mill, based in Grellingen in the canton of Baselland, increased its revenue by more than 12.5 percent to 117 million francs in fiscal year 2007. Cash flow is once again above 10 percent of revenue, and investments of approximately 6 million francs were recorded.

Ziegler Paper Mill, based in Grellingen in the canton of Baselland, was able to increase its sales by over 12.5 percent to 117 million Swiss francs in the 2007 financial year. Cash flow again exceeded 10 percent of sales, and investments of around 6 million Swiss francs were recorded. The workforce remained stable at 182 employees. The company was silent about the specific earnings situation in its press release on Monday. It was again negatively affected by high energy costs and rising raw material costs, it only says.
Ziegler is a global leader in the production of inkjet papers for transactional documents and CAD. Last year, the company further expanded its market position in Europe and the USA, according to a press release issued on Monday. The market launch of the new product Z-Release, a backing paper for film composites and in plastics production, went according to plan.
Of the total of around 70,000 tons of paper produced by Ziegler last year, approximately 45 percent was sold domestically. Exports were mainly to Germany, England, Holland, Austria and Italy. The subsidiary Ziegler Paper USA in Elk Grove, Illinois, again doubled its sales and closed the year successfully. Smaller quantities of paper were also sold to China for the first time.
The company intends to grow further in 2008. The focus will be on new products in the ink jet sector and in the silicone coatings segment.
