Top 30 Innovation Award goes to Switzerland for the first time

This weekend, the «Silicon Valley Technology Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum» (SVIEF) presented the 2015 Top 30 Innovation Award to the Swiss mobile technology company Adello in Santa Clara.

Adello was recognized for its proprietary technology that takes mobile advertising further thanks to Data Science. The Swiss mobile technology company looks at increasing the efficiency of mobile ads by using machine learning to identify the right customers for the highest ROI. This results in a win-win situation: users see fewer ads and advertisers gain more customers with the same advertising budget.

The key to success is the patented real-time analytics platform that evaluates billions of ad impressions every day. For each impression, the algorithms check thousands of attributes to make real-time predictions about where the best conversion will occur. Every step of the customer journey is measured and fed back into the system. The result is a self-optimizing system that learns from every ad view, every interaction, every website visit, and every purchase.

Jana Uhlig, CMO and co-founder of Adello, explains on the occasion of the award ceremony: "Thanks to the availability of data and technologies, digitalization is able to change our world. The advertising industry is just one of many industries that are being disruptively transformed. We can improve the world by using data and data science to do more with less. We are happy and honored to be one of the companies that received the SVIEF Award."

SBB and Infel: New splendor for Switzerland's biggest travel magazine

Starting now, the travel magazine *Via* is hitting the trains and train stations with a sharper focus and a stronger Swiss identity.

A sharper editorial and design focus, better feel, concentration on core values and adjustment of the target group: Via, the travel magazine of SBB and VöV, will be launched on Friday, October 2, in a refined look. The publishers and Infel Corporate Media are making the adjustments in response to changing reading habits in the age of mobile news consumption. "We believe in the future of the printed magazine. Our customers like to be inspired by good travel stories and exciting portraits while on the move, and not only digitally, but also with a printed magazine," says Gerry Flückiger, Head of Corporate Identity & Design at SBB. "Via focuses on its origins and strengths and brings them to life in a contemporary form," says Gert Schröder, Head of Consulting and Editorial at Infel Corporate Media.

Profile sharpening

In the future, Via will focus on the target group of travelers over 40. Consequently, the editorial offering has also been sharpened. In the future, Swissness, tradition and authenticity will be more consistently incorporated into the focus of the articles. This intention is also reflected in the revised layout: The images are even more generous than before and show a Switzerland that can be proud of its great destinations, its unique landscapes and traditions. Via wants to bring this enthusiasm to its readers - travel in the mind fertilizes travel in reality. The new haptics reflect the intention to offer customers added value that does justice to the service standards of public transport in Switzerland.

The project has also met with great acceptance from the marketing partner Publicitas: "The redesign is a commitment to the printed medium and sustainably strengthens Via's position in the advertising market. This will have a positive impact on the successful marketing of Switzerland's biggest travel magazine," says Evi Bossard, Head of Magazines at Publicitas.

From October 2, Via will be available free of charge at around 250 train stations in German and French-speaking Switzerland in the red Via dispensers and on SBB express trains. Via is also available at Via.ch to find.

The House: Campaign for the launch of the Xing Job Market Switzerland

Just in time for the "Zukunft Personal" industry trade fair in Cologne, The House designed and implemented a digital campaign for Xing to publicize the new Xing job market.

In a bidding process for the conception and implementation of the communication and media measures of Xing Switzerland, The House prevailed against several agencies. The central content of the realized campaign is the localization and dramatization of the core message "Jobs that fit life". The focus was therefore not only on the number of vacancies in Switzerland, but also on what employees want. To match this, the XING Jobs market offers the corresponding search and filter functions.

Six reasons for social media advertising in B2B

Social media expert Uwe-Michael Sinn, Managing Director of Rabbit Performance, points out six reasons why social media should definitely not be missing from B2B companies' advertising campaigns.

"B2B companies still underestimate the importance of advertising in social networks for sales and marketing. Corporate presences on Facebook, Xing, Twitter & Co. are more likely to be used for reputation, for improved visibility in search results or as a service channel," says Sinn.

1. mass selection criteria

Users of social media platforms reveal a lot about themselves. Accordingly, companies can select the target group that should see a particular advertisement and control the ads (targeting options). Niche target groups can also be addressed without wastage. Another advantage: Unlike display advertising, there are no additional costs in the media budget, no matter how many selection criteria are used to form the target group.

2. branding and performance

Advertising on social media channels works particularly well in the early stages of the decision-making process and is thus an ideal tool for increasing brand and product awareness, for image building, or for concrete entry into the sales funnel. Compared to search engine advertising, social media advertising is aimed at target groups that have a latent or abiding interest rather than an acute need.

3. twins from existing customers

Companies can target people who are similar to their existing customers, for example in terms of occupational group, position or interests. To do this, data records from the CRM or the website are matched with those on Facebook, Twitter & Co. In technical jargon, this is known as statistical twins or lookalikes. Among other things, this enables high-quality reach to be built up, existing campaigns to be expanded, or new leads to be acquired.

4. explain complex things quickly

Most social media channels offer video ads. Moving images make it easier and more entertaining to explain complex issues or products than pictures or text. In addition, the appeal to the target customers is more emotional.

5. retargeting and integrated campaigns

Social media channels allow advertisers to retarget online users who have already visited the company's website, for example, with suitable offers. Linking several channels within a campaign increases the advertising pressure and makes conversion more likely.

6. longer contact

Custom Audiences, i.e. target groups created by the advertiser himself, offer a "longer retention" of the contact. Cookies in the browser often only have an active usage time of two to three weeks. With social media advertising, on the other hand, it takes up to 180 days for the contact to be lost to the user ID. The more touchpoints there are with the user ID, the more often re-tagging becomes possible and the contact is retained for longer.

Rabbit Performance explains what companies should know about advertising campaigns on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Xing, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram in the new whitepaper "Social Media Advertising kompakt: Kanäle und Zielgruppen im Überblick". The whitepaper is available at Rabbit-performance.com/social-media-advertising available against contact details.

Last but not least: Speechless speaker

NFL star Marshawn Lynch has agreed to become the new Pepsi spokesperson—on the condition that he doesn't have to speak.

What might be a little difficult in reality works brilliantly in the BBDO New York commercial. The result lasts 30 seconds and is even more refreshing than Pepsi. Sometimes it doesn't even matter if you know the testimonial if you like an ad. And if you know Marshawn Lynch - all the better. (hae)

Amag shuts down VW advertising

VW importer Amag is scaling back advertising for its cars in Switzerland. Advertising in print media and on television has been halted. Online advertising has been «temporarily scaled back,» the importer announced on Wednesday.

The launch for the new Touran car was carried out normally, according to an Amag statement in response to an inquiry from the SDA news agency. The launch of the type took place in September. The funds earmarked for the current advertising measures will be used for a new campaign. This is to refer to "the current incidents", whereby apparently the scandal around the exhaust gas trickery is meant. This campaign is currently in the works, he said. "This is being done out of respect for the public - more important issues are currently on the agenda," the Amag release continues. (SDA)

Springer expands digital business with million-euro acquisition

Shortly after the failed takeover of the Financial Times, Axel Springer Verlag is making another major acquisition in the English-language market.

The publishing house is increasing its stake in the US business and news portal Business Insider from around nine percent to around 97 percent. This will cost the Germans 343 million dollars. "With the acquisition of Business Insider, we are continuing our digital growth strategy and, as announced, investing in digital journalistic companies in the Anglo-American region," said Springer CEO Mathias Döpfner. The remaining three percent will be held by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos via an investment company. According to the publisher of Bild and Welt, the takeover will increase its global digital reach to around 200 million readers. Axel Springer has thus become one of the six digital publishers with the widest reach in the world.

Business Insider, which was founded in 2007 and is based in New York with around 325 employees, is one of the leading business portals with 76 million users (unique visitors) worldwide every month. It has set new standards in digital business journalism, said Döpfner. Founder and Editor-in-Chief Henry Blodget and Julie Hansen, Chief Operating Officer and President, will continue to lead Business Insider in their current roles. (SDA)

Federal government to increase minimum Internet transmission rate as of 2018

The guaranteed data transfer rate for Swiss Internet connections is set to increase once again. This is what Bakom is proposing for universal service starting in 2018. In addition, the price of a landline subscription will include all calls to Swiss landline and mobile networks.

The guaranteed transmission rate for downloading on the Internet is supposed to be 3000 kilobits per second (Kbit/s), and 300 Kbit/s for uploading data. Since the beginning of the year, the minimum transfer rate has been set at 2000/200 Kbit/s. The increase in the rate guarantees participation in social and economic life for the entire population in all parts of the country, writes Bakom in the draft revision of the Decree on Telecommunications Services (FDV) published on Tuesday. This transmission rate corresponds to the expected evolution and is sufficient to guarantee all basic services in good quality. According to Bakom, the rate corresponds to a "top value" in a European comparison of the universal service. Swisscom has the license for this universal service until the end of 2017.

Calls to fixed and mobile network included

In the draft for the license from 2018, Bakom also proposes that a telephone line should no longer be required for Internet access. According to the draft, the price of a fixed network subscription must in future include all calls to the Swiss fixed and mobile networks. The maximum subscription price is to be CHF 27.20 per month. For the total telephone/Internet package, the maximum price is to be CHF 58.75 per month. Internet-only access will cost CHF 44.85 per month.

IP telephony to become standard

Bakom wants the universal service licensee to no longer have to offer traditional analog and digital connections (ISDN) in the future. A multifunctional broadband connection is to replace these connection types. The broadband connection will be based on the Internet Protocol (IP). The development of technologies and telecommunications services promotes the conversion of telecommunications networks to IP technology, explains the Federal Office of Communications. (SDA)
