Walker for Amnesty International: Full-page small ad realized

The Walker advertising agency has created a full-page classified ad for the Swiss section of Amnesty International. It consists of five images depicting human rights violations that are in danger of being obscured by classified ads.

In the format of the small ad, Amnesty calls for "Help us to prevent human rights violations from disappearing into the background." to support its activities. The advertisements are created in close cooperation with the respective newspaper editors. The first advertisement was placed in the weekly newspaper (Woz) on November 19, 2009.

Rumor mill: Murdoch plans strike against Google with Microsoft

According to media reports, media mogul Rupert Murdoch wants to team up with Microsoft to launch a counteroffensive against Google and the "free culture" on the Internet that he has criticized. Under this plan, Murdoch's media outlets could distribute information exclusively to Microsoft for a fee.

Initial talks with the world's largest US software company have already explored whether Murdoch's media group News Corp could in future provide its news exclusively and for a fee via Microsoft's Internet pages and its search engine Bing, the British business newspaper Financial Times reported on Monday. Microsoft is also in contact with other major publishers and wants to persuade them to remove their digital content from the search engine index of arch-rival Google, it said.
The controversial media entrepreneur has repeatedly blamed the internet and, in particular, the search engine operator Google as a news distributor for the current media crisis. Murdoch had also recently pursued plans to block content from his group online and only make it accessible for a fee.
Microsoft is currently likely to be interested in anything that could put the software company and its new search engine Bing in a better position than arch-rival Google. Microsoft's new search technology has received a lot of positive feedback, but Microsoft has not yet managed to seriously compete with Google. Exclusive news content could significantly increase the appeal of the new search engine. Nevertheless, some industry observers doubt that the media groups could actually reach a deal with the software manufacturer in this form.

Unique: Vontobel Group's advertising presence further developed

Unikat, which has served as the Vontobel Group’s lead agency for the past five years, has further developed the bank’s advertising campaign. The goal is to ensure that the Vontobel brand is positively associated with and remembered by customers and potential customers.

According to the agency, the advertising presence has been made a little more emotional and self-confident thanks to the color scheme and corresponding look and feel. The texts are intended to create sympathy and credibility among the bank's various target groups. The new campaign continues to focus on the bank's biggest "asset" - the employees of the Vontobel Group. They should make the bank unmistakable. The ads for the new campaign have been appearing in business and financial publications and selected magazines in Switzerland since the beginning of November. The campaign will also be used in other important target markets such as Germany in the future.

NZZ Job Market Monitor: Print media particularly affected by decline

The latest «Job Market Monitor 2009» from the NZZ reports a decline of just under 20 percent in job postings. All recruitment channels have been affected. However, the decline in print media was more pronounced than that seen on company websites and job portals.

However, as the study also shows, the press continues to be an important advertising channel. Around half of the jobs advertised are (also) advertised in the press. The trend towards simultaneous advertisements in several channels is also continuing. The proportion of jobs advertised simultaneously in more than one medium has risen from 50 to 55 percent in the last five years. Advertisements in all three channels have increased from 11 to 17 percent.

A longer-term comparison of data also shows that high-circulation newspapers have become increasingly important as a recruitment channel in the search for qualified employees for demanding and well-paid positions in recent years. This applies most strongly to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
The publication "Stellenmarkt-Monitor 2009" from the "Mediadok" series of NZZ-Verlag was produced in collaboration with the "Stellenmarkt-Monitor Schweiz" research unit of the Institute of Sociology at the University of Zurich. It is based on a representative survey of job advertisements from the press and the Internet (company websites and job portals), which is updated annually.

Last but not least: How did the Tagi get this picture?

Last Friday’s front page of the *Tages-Anzeiger*: a large photo featuring two people with bizarre smiles. One can only assume that the photographer caught them at a particularly inopportune moment. Who did this to them? And how on earth did they end up on the front page?

The title reveals that it is the new EU President Herman Van Rompuy and the newly elected Foreign Minister Catherine Ashton. Keystone is cited as the source of the picture. Is this possibly the only photo taken of Van Rompuy and Ashton during the elections in Belgium? Brief research by Werbewoche shows that there would have been alternatives - not necessarily outstanding ones, but better ones. How about this one, for example:

This photo would definitely have given a different impression:

What was going on at the Tagi? Was the photo chosen after a fun-filled company party? Or were they going for the shock effect? It doesn't help: close your eyes and go on.

Deceased celebrities: rich beyond death thanks to trademark rights

Deceased figures such as Elvis Presley, Albert Einstein, and Andy Warhol earn tens of millions because they are brands of enduring value. Greenlight, the rights clearance expert for the Corbis photo agency, manages the rights to these celebrities.

The latest list from the US business magazine Forbes shows the value of the image of deceased celebrities. The Forbes list is headed by designer Yves Saint Laurent, who died in June 2008 (350 million dollars), the composer duo Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein are in second place (235 million dollars), Michael Jackson in third place (90 million dollars). The list also includes Elvis Presley (55 million dollars), ex-Beatle John Lennon (15 million dollars) and Albert Einstein (10 million dollars).
The company Greenlight represents the rights of Albert Einstein, Bruce Lee, Johnny Cash, Steve McQueen, Thomas Edison and Andy Warhol, among others. "If a product is to be presented as particularly intelligent, the likeness of Einstein - or his famous formula for the theory of relativity - is often used," David Reeder, Vice President of Greenlight, is quoted as saying in a press release. Obtaining these rights for a campaign, for example, is handled by the company's rights service, which in turn has relations with Einstein's estate administration, Hebron University in Jerusalem.

Everything is going green - even at McDonald's

McDonald’s is committed to environmental protection and sustainability. As part of this effort, the fast-food giant is revamping its corporate identity. The McDonald’s red, which previously served as the background for the yellow “M,” will be replaced by green in the future.

The color green is intended to underline the burger chain's increased commitment to the environment, as a spokesperson told the industry service Horizont.net. The color change will be implemented gradually. In Switzerland, the new logo will be used for new restaurant openings for the time being. In mid-December, one of the first McDonalds restaurants with the new logo will open at the Kölliken highway service station, according to Tagesanzeiger.ch. Further restaurants will then feature the green and yellow logo next year. The logo of the American company has hardly changed so far. The logo was created by Jim Schindler in 1962. In 1968, the name McDonald's was added to the logo with the curved M.
